  • The Wollof ethnic group of the Senegambia region are very fascinating people. Their tradition, culture, and political lifestyle has been very influential within the Senegambia region. There is so much more to be said about the Wolof people but I could not possibly cover all of it in one video.

Wollofs are tall, dark and beautiful. They are very intelligent, hard working and helpful. The Wollofs are known for helping the people who need help. They are not selfish. I believe the reason Senegal had such a success story is due to the Wollof people. Great people all together.

I met a Fulani man in 2000 in a village on my visit to Mali. In our discussion he told me that his ancestors were from Ethiopia. According to my local Fula'ani means went away. As Fulani's are pastoralists, I thought it could be but needs further study. One thing exiting, I heard local Fulani listening to Ethiopian music. I also bought Ali Farakan Ture songs that has similar pitch to my songs and are still with me. The Fulani history should be deeply studied.

So Seereer women dressed in Seereer woven clothes, and Seereer & Tukuloor hair design are now Wolof? Awesome! I didn’t realise that. Lol. Mbalax music which came from the ultra conservative Seereer njuup music tradition is now Wolof! Awesome! I didn’t realise that either. The sabar drum and music motif tradition which originated from the Seereer Kingdom of Siin, made it's way to the Seereer Kingdom of Saluum where the Wolof immigrants in Saluum exported it to the Wolof Kingdoms apparently originated from the Wolof also according to this guy. Never realised that either, but thanks for telling us. This is so sad. If you are going to talk about any particular ethnic group in the Senegambia region, please at least do proper research and read books about the history of the people and their real culture rather than falsely representing other ethnic group's culture and history as Wolof. The biggest hole in this video is that, there is no such thing as a Wolof ethnic group. Wolof is more a culture than an ethnic group (similar to Creole). The so called Wolof are a mixture of various ethnic groups, predominantly Seereer, Tukoor, etc. Even their so-called ancestor Njaajaan Njaay was of a Seereer father and a Tukuloor mother. Even his name is Seereer, hence why you have to go to Seereer sources and the Seereer language to decipher the meaning of his name, as his name means absolutely nothing in Wolof. For the etymology of his name, one has to go to the source language: Seereer. It is so sad that some of these so-called Wolofs, especially the young, are regurgitating any rubbish without actually studying their history properly, e.g., books, interviewing elders, etc. So sad!
