  • What's the best approach to setting foot on a track that you've never driven before? We lay it all down here at Canaan Motor Club in New Hampshire.

Do people still walk tracks? Especially new tracks? Walking gives an opportunity to inspect the condition of the road surface, see imperfections like bumps potholes, understaand the curbs, see elevation changes, see camber changes, see where others have gotten it wrong, look at alternate lines, stand in the apex and see where you came from and forward to what's next. and adjust thinking about the line. Then slow laps and build.

Only one host org I drove with did a track “walk” - SCDA. It was more like a drive from apex to apex, stopping to walk the turn and pointing out points of interest.

Fun track! I’ve driven it in my BRZ. I did the squiggle as a straightaway, but there was no puddle, and my car might fit where the larger E46 doesn’t.

E46s are not bigger than a BRZ though, BRZs are actually wider by a few millimeters, The E46 is longer and taller.

Are you all going to be teaching actual tarmac rally techniques? If so, awesome! Should be pretty different than regular road racing classes like what they teach at Skip Barber, right?

In a manual transmission vehicle would you still utilize left foot braking as much as on a loose surface? It seems a no brainer if you had a sequential but would braking with your left foot then dropping a gear slow you down compared to heel/toe? I gotta get out there. Thanks for the content.

Short answer: if you know you're going to need to shift, probably just right foot brake. If you are planning on holding your current gear through the corner, probably left foot brake.

The video was a long time ago but i have questions about seating position. i am 5'4 male and i feel like for comfortable pedal reach i need to sit all the way farward and even pump the seat up/forward a bit. but then i feel like im too far forward, but then the steering wheel almost feels too far away. is there a limit to how far forward you should sit? not in regards to the steering wheel but say the driver side window. and how high should the steering wheel be in comparison with your chin/nose/etc? long comment my bad

Usually when you get in, you want to slide the seat to get your legs comfortable on the pedals, then adjust the height if you need to see better, then adjust the tilt so your arms are comfortable. There's no real "rule" it's really just finding what works for you.

@@Pugzei What kind of car is it? Some cars will definitely be more comfortable than others for your shape and size, just like tall people will never really be comfortable in Miatas and Boxsters

Rollcage & original seats, safety then comfort. Getting to play with worn tires on a track must be fun, less speed but more squeek.
