Chicago along with NY had the best Jazz bands the music and the people of the era kept pace with all the "modern" innovations and loved it. Life was fun unlike today when it is centered around the "youth" and bad TV........

This was recorded in New Orleans by a New Orleans band.

Great music. Great solos. The tuba carries this song.

Chink Martin on tuba was the brass bass player here. He was terrific! Heard him in New Orleans in 1979 when he was about 90, playing string bass at Preservation Hall, just as well!

Art, I used to be a DJ & program director on a great oldies station that featured rare music & we loved to talk about the musicians, etc. In the early days of rock, the old folks, especially older musicians, said those darn kids & their rock & roll ruined music for the rest of us. Here's a few birthdays for ya:
    Bill Haley-7/6 1925
    Chuck Berry-10/18 1926
    Fats Domino-February 26, 1928
    Ike Turner-11/5 1931 (1st rock song Rocket 88)
    Tiny Tim-4/12 1932
It was fuel costs that killed big bands.

Leon may have been a master, but it was the great Charlie Cordilla who played the superb clarinet on this track!

Art, I've been a musician for about 50 years and I especially love to collect, listen to, & record my own versions of this amazing music. But Art, my friend do you realize this music in it's era was hated by the old folks of the time? Let me remind you also, that era's "pop culture" was centered around the "youth" as you put it, just like today. I know this is a little better than Justin Beiber, hehe, but lets not show our age too much, eh? Running out of space, contd next post...
