According to Rust, {1977} this is Nov. 1925 session is by the second of 3 different NYC groups that Columbia released as the Gulf Coast Seven. This group shows the interesting mix of black musicians in NYC at this time. June Clark,c ; from NJ by way of Philadephia, and Jimmy Harrison, trb; from Louisville by way of Detroit first played together in James P. Johnson's band in Toledo in 1920. Clark and Harrison were playing together in various clubs and dance halls in NY in 1925; Buster Bailey cl,ss,as from WC Handy in Memphis and then King Oliver in Chicago was with Fletcher Henderson. Prince Robinson, ts from Virginia came to NYC in 1922 by way of Atlantic City. He was working with Duke Ellington in 1925 and is on the only 2 sides Duke recorded that year. Bill Benford, bb, from the Jenkins Orphanage in Charleston, SC was part of the East Coast musicians who came to NY before the New Orleans guys like Narcisse "Buddy" Christan, bj, got there in 1920. I don't have any information on drummer "Jazz" Carson.
This looks like a pick up group and not a regular group that Willie "The Lion" Smith led. I had the pleasure of interviewing "the Lion" back in the 1970s. I did not ask him specifically about this session. He did say that one of the great things about NY in the 1920s was how musicians from all sorts of places were bringing their own styles into town.

The tune is "Keep your temper", a composition by Willie "The Lion" Smith, who leads this band in 1925.
