This show was actually ahead of its time. It would have probably lasted longer today with one of the cable networks. It was definitely better than anything on today.
When I was a teenager in the 80s, my mom and I would watch this together. She told me a lot of stuff from her early years which happened during this decade. It helped bring us together. I never hear the theme without remembering when we both were younger and life seemed unlimited. How I wish the younger generations could enjoy the way we lived then.
Yep! Real Chicago PD, as was one of the creators of the show, Chuck Adamson, who met with the real Neil McCauley years before in a diner, and technical advisor to "Heat." John Santucci, "Paulie Taglia," had actually been a jewel thief who had been arrested by Farina!
My grandpa used to let me stay up late and watch this show with him when I was little, I remember he'd shut the light off and we'd watch it in the dark. Those were the good ole days, and this show actually got me into old 1950's cars!
This show was the Breaking Bad of it's day, great acting, story, writing, cinematography, and of course a budget to match. It is a real tragedy that it only lasted two seasons.
Yeah when they made the move to Las Vegas the show for me just wasn't the same, although I did love a couple of bits like when Paulie gets the bright idea to take an unconscious and wounded Luca to a makeshift constructed house right in the Ground Zero middle of a nuclear A-Bomb testing range, and Luca wakes up and figures out where they are and is just about to kill Paulie when the bomb goes off. X-D Does anyone else remember that bit? It ought be a UA-cam video.
Michael Mann made another series that is a near replica of this, called Robbery Homicide Division, with Tom Sizemore. Robbery Homicide Division S01E01 - A Life of it's Own Published on May 17, 2017 ua-cam.com/video/GynPvTQC_20/v-deo.html
Three famous rock and roll musicians of the past contributed to Crime Story: Del Shannon sang a revised version of his hit "Runaway" as the theme song, and Todd Rundgren started the musical direction of the series, with Al Kooper taking over as the series musical director. While early episodes played music of the era or earlier, Kooper later allowed tunes from years after 1963 to appear on the soundtrack.
Two and a half tons of North American made steel powered by 8 cylinders firing on 17 cent gasoline. No fish tail, no chatter no nothing, just 15" rubber tires grabbing asphalt.
This T.V. show was too brilliant for its time. If it were released today on cable (AMC) or on Netflix, it would be huge. I remember watching this show as a child and couldn't understand why it was canceled so soon. I would suggest a reboot, but Dennis Farina is irreplaceable. P.S.: Did you know Ted Levine and Andrew Dice Clay were also part of this cast?
SteVen Romero Did ever notice how Ray Luca's fender style hair do never went out of place in all his ass kickin's? I used to use a hair whacker out of a tube. It was pretty popular back then. It was thick enough to put in your grease gun. heh heh. Can't think of the name of it though. A gold and black tube.
can you please upload thew tvseries on kicks torrent site. Its not available anywhere else.... would mean a lot.. saw this as a young kid with my brother.
Crime Story, the most recent version of Les Miserables! Javert had his Jean Valgean, Lieutenant Gerard, had his Richard Kimble, and Michael J. Torello had his Ray Luca!
Choochat Prasertkun You know it! I was watchin' Miami Vice" for awhile until I accidentally caught the Crime Story show. I watched every episode. More down to earth compared to Miami Vice. I also got all the episodes on Netflix now.
Now one of these guys "Mike Torello" played by Dennis Farina has passed away 22th of july so saddend to read about this today, I cry..... RIP Dennis Farina love you
Q.E.P.D. Dennis Farina,se nos va otro de los grandes del cine, como olvidar la serie conocida en Chile como CHICAGO 1963, con esa canción de fondo RUNAWAY espectacular, vuela alto Dennis Farina, los ochenteros te recordaremos siempre...
- This one was a good series and much because of Mr. Farina was a real Policeman. That created a certain "authentic aura" around scenes. Not a typical case in this sense although the genre in itself is popular, also here in Europe.
Great video with the old Ford just getting the power to the rear wheels! And a armed robbery scene where the bad guys are not telling people to give up their cell phones. At 0:55 the bad guy has the 1911 with the hammer back, which is the way it should be, then at 1:59 the guy in the rear seat of the Ford pulls the charging handle of the M1 Carbine to chamber a round then Torello pulls the slide of his 1911 then engages the Thumb Safety after a round is chambered. To bad that show didn’t go on for a few more years!
Has anyone mentioned the automotive porn starting at 2:07, the sound of a 292 Ford Y Block screaming? Oh and by the way I would think the people at the drive in would know who the police that stopped in were, police are predictable in where they stop for food.
This was the best opening scene from any show ever. It completely sets up Torello's character. Does anybody know if that's Joe pesci at the table at 55 seconds?

This show was the Breaking Bad of it's day, great acting, story, writing, cinematography, and of course a budget to match. It is a real tragedy that it only lasted two seasons.
The first season was best. The second season got weird and the filming was "brighter".

Two and a half tons of North American made steel powered by 8 cylinders firing on 17 cent gasoline. No fish tail, no chatter no nothing, just 15" rubber tires grabbing asphalt.
Nothing like the sound of a big block pushrod V8 with dual glass pack exhaust!

This show was some of my earliest memories. I’ll always know this song lol
My mom swore by this show and I didn't get into it until decades later. She knew it. This show seriously has everything. Way ahead of its time!
This T.V. show was too brilliant for its time. If it were released today on cable (AMC) or on Netflix, it would be huge. This was the best opening scene from any show ever. It completely sets up Torello's character. Does anybody know if that's Joe pesci at the table at 55 seconds?

The patrons getting robbed are combination early 60s/mid 80s fashion
Great memories
1:27 So that's where The Sopranos got the idea for Jackie Aprile's card game robbery
Jansons (restaurant in opening) still looks the same. But back in the 80s their burgers were so good. And of course, the deep fried tacos.
anyone else notice towards the end when they were playing the call in that it sounded familiar to the call in's on grand theft auto?
