The music used totally made the right atmosfere for the 60's that the series was set in. I liked it even better then Miami Vice.I remember being very dissapointed when the series ended in the Netherlands. Farina was the real badass hero back. then! Unforgettable
I wrote a treatment where Luca and Torello survived the crash and both ended up in a coma. They both awoke around 1967 in the middle of the Summer of Love. A bit of Rip-Van-Winkle cultural shock ensued, then the eternal war between badass cop and bad guy resumed.

A fantastic musical intro by Del Shannon, a great show with meticulous attention to how things really looked in '62. What a time to be alive, space race was just underway, JFK was alive and we all had a sense of hope despite the dread of the bomb. And I was still a little kid full of stars in my eyes. Loved it.

Nine years ago today my mother passed away When I was a little kid growing up in the 80's she would let me stay up late to watch Crime Story I would hear this song in the beginning of the show and I was hooked and it was one of the things that helped me to bond with my mother and certain songs and musicians from the 60's
At the time, this was the coolest show on tv; even more then Miami Vice. Dennis Farina, rip, was hard as hell. Their style of dress had me get a trench coat, and black hardsole shoes and I was only in high school.
I also liked the beginning when they showed Vegas more during the song, especially the part where the boys are going after Ray Luca at the Lucky Star, and Torrello fires his 1911 & Danny lights’em up with the B.A.R.!
Remember that era as a kid. Too young to appreciate the style and ambiance and even if I was old enough, I still wouldn't at the time. Waiting for the day when they do the nostalgia take on 2012. 8)
A great cop show...well ahead of its time. ..that NBC did NOTHING to promote. They did the same thing with Homicide: Life on the Street. Another great show that NBC kept under wraps during its run.
All true. One of my favorite shows of all time. But the writers painted themselves into a corner - that business in South America. Where do you go with that? I'm not going to quibble though. No surprise that my 2 favorite shows (this and Miami Vice) of the 80s along with many of my favorite movies, were either Michael Mann productions or ones where he directed (cf Heat and Collateral).

I think it might have been fairly expensive to produce. Continuity must have driven them nuts. Everything on the street had to match 1963. Cars, extras, store fronts. It was a great show Season1. I don’t know who dropped that bomb of an ending. That sucked for sure. A planet crash that wipes out the whole cast except for Stephen Lang’s character? Really?

Remember that era as a kid. Too young to appreciate the style and ambiance and even if I was old enough, I still wouldn't at the time. Waiting for the day when they do the nostalgia take on 2012. 8)
A great cop show...well ahead of its time. ..that NBC did NOTHING to promote. They did the same thing with Homicide: Life on the Street. Another great show that NBC kept under wraps during its run.
All true. One of my favorite shows of all time. But the writers painted themselves into a corner - that business in South America. Where do you go with that?
I'm not going to quibble though. No surprise that my 2 favorite shows (this and Miami Vice) of the 80s along with many of my favorite movies, were either Michael Mann productions or ones where he directed (cf Heat and Collateral).

sandra sanders ...true...although I believe Homicide’s second season was literally 3 or 4 episodes long. NBC seemed to have that show on the chopping block every year, but I’m glad that it lasted as long as it did. Paul Attabasio, Tom Fontana, and Barry Levenson: all criminally underrated, jmo
I think it might have been fairly expensive to produce. Continuity must have driven them nuts. Everything on the street had to match 1963. Cars, extras, store fronts. It was a great show Season1. I don’t know who dropped that bomb of an ending. That sucked for sure. A planet crash that wipes out the whole cast except for Stephen Lang’s character? Really?
