hello I'm from Indonesia, very lucky to meet you, even though we are from different countries. your video work is very beautiful, I always see it from every notification message that comes to the end of the video, I really appreciate your work, hopefully we can meet again in your latest video!
Good choice Karl.. I just bred him two days ago.. I am not sure there is a specific name for that.. it kinda has a becko pattern or a Shiro utsuri pattern if it was a koi but the red, or hi is spaced far apart.. so kinda like a sanke lol.. but I do like the look of it
Great video and some amazing looking shubunkins. The tails and fins are immaculate without tears or fraying which can be difficult to obtain in long finned varieties. Thank you to your wife for calling them what they are "shubunkin goldfish". I've heard so many people tell me they are not goldfish but rather just subunkins. Oh well, each to their own. 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻
Ty so much Ken. I really appreciate that.. I agree with you. Luckily I have not had a problem with fraying with any of my shubunkin goldfish. I wish I could of started out with better brood but through selective breeding I think I have a good line going.. Ty again Ken.. Most Koi owners will only watch or comment on koi.. I like all kinds of fish...Take care my friend
Shubunkins are so underrated! They're like koi but economic, hardier, friendlier even, and doesn't take that much space. I'd pick them over koi hehe. My pond is already inhabited by fancy goldfish so i guess its not my time yet
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I would love to see your fancy goldfish. This Friday I am releasing the video of my very best shubunkin goldfish. I have been selectively breeding them . These new ones are my future.. They are show quality.. I think so anyway 😂
Very beautiful goldfish and clear water. Is this because of the close relationship with Lake Ontario? Very rarely, my video shows a pond in a tourist destination in Japan.🐶🤗❤️❤️👍186
I live a hour or two away from Lake Ontario. I live north of there. I love the Japanese culture and have modelled my backyard with that in mind mixing japan and Canada in one
Awesome video Chris, found this video very very informative!! All you shubunkins look absolutely stunning and very healthy!!! Huge credit to you !! Great to see the family getting involved 😀
Thankyou for the video. I look forward to to catching up on older ones. How can I buy some of your shUbunkins. Do you ship? I had picked up a few many years ago from a local hobbyist and did well with them until a home move. I saw avery large one 2 years ago, predominantly black and red with odd blue patches, absolutely beautiful.
Sorry you lost some Al but it happens. Thanks so very much for watching. I have been breeding a lot more shubunkin goldfish. Unfortunately I don't ship as it would be very cost prohibitive. I do sell to some stores and pond facilities. Thanks again
Hi I came across your channel and I have a shubunkin and it’s beautiful, but I was wondering if you have a video on the best tank environment/size or any other advice as I’m not an expert or very knowledgeable about tank fish but I’ve kept my tank for a few years and I’ve done pretty good so far but I’d like to improve their environment
Hi Laura. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I try to keep them in as large of a tank as I can and if possible in a pond. The bigger the better as these fish can grow over a foot in length I keep my biggest in an indoor 300 gallon pond during the winter . In the summer they go into two larger ponds.. I do keep some of my juveniles in a 125 gallon tank. These fish are a social fish and do better in groups of at least three. I do have a lot of fry in smaller tanks but they are in there just for the winter. I would love to see your shubunkin goldfish. This is one of my latest shubunkin goldfish videos if you are interested ua-cam.com/video/glzQ305zU9Q/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/glzQ305zU9Q/v-deo.html
This was really great info on them! Man that's some price tag, but relatively long lived fish at least. I love how Sandra says you work hard and deserve some! 🥰 You've bred some really beautiful fish there, love that finnage and those colors! Such graceful movements, too. 👍🙂
Awww Ty Tara.. I don't think I could buy those at that price.. I would not allow myself to...if that makes sense.. Hate putting price tags on everything...but I do when it comes to this hobby of ours.. Ty again for all your kindness and support
Hi there.. it's almost impossible to get bristol in Canada... we get more of what they call American shubunkin which have a tail more shaped like a comet ... but I breed for a longer fuller tail..
Now Chris this was very interesting to hear about, and it looks like you have put a lot of time work and effort in to the breeding and upkeep of your stock, keep up the good work mate 👍👍
Ty so much Gary.. I certainly have over the years.. Been kinda fun to see what I can get over the years. I really appreciate the kind comments ... They mean a lot
Do you have any blue and black ones like in this Video, he has the little red patch on his face but rest of his body is a bright blue with black patches?
I have watched Sandra's and Jackson's video, oh four or five, maybe six times. And gosh guy, this is one of the top videos out there. Just the research was enough to make it good. However, you people made it excellent. Thank you. Now a question; I have always looked at my shubunkins, and wondered what they really are, what type? They aren't Londons nor do they seem to be Bristols, although that is what I call them. Isn't there a third type?
Thanks so very much Roland for your very kind words and your support. Those words mean the world to me. Some of my other shubunkin videos might be helpful. Bristol as you know have a rounded tail with a strong blue in their colouring where the London has more of a forked tail. There is no official that I know of but over here in Canada most of our fish come from America as in the USA. They tend to have more of a sarasa tail which is much longer with a forked tail My Shubunkin have very long tailed. I purchased some a long time ago and bred them.. I did not keep the parents and kept breeding them until I have more of the patterns and fins that I like. My last shubunkin video demonstrates that a bit more. I hope that answered your questions. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me. Stubbs Aka Chris
I have bred my huge Shubunkin with my goldfish, they have turned out pink with black eyes or one black eye and one normal or bronze. They haven't coloured up yet so waiting to see how they all turn out.
Hi Jimmy Thanks so very much for watching It's pretty common to have two different eye colours This video I recently did might help you out with how they might turn out Be interested to see how they look ua-cam.com/video/Q8nr1B5EOsg/v-deo.html

First time commenter here, and love your channel. I began a journey last year with an outside pond. put a few small koi and some goldfish, including two shubunkin. Turned out that they were males, and I now have some babies approaching 3" long. Last week, the female comet who was solid white that I believe was the mother to them turned up with scales missing and a fungus on both sides. I think it was from breeding behavior. She has now died, but one white baby is now being harassed to the point we had to remove it from the pond. I have a couple of questions I hope you can help with. 1) Why would they be trying to breed now, in late August? The water temp is mid 80's so they should not be chasing. 2) What is the ratio of males to females in a spawn? It seems like I have 90% or more in the pond are males, as I have only witnessed two of them being chased this year. The babies from this year's spawn are a mixture of common goldfish, dull brown and greenish ones, and calico/shubunkin ones. Will the dull ones change color or are they are what they are? I will be removing them in any case as I do not want them breeding, but the behavior of the others towards the young white one gives me concerns. They were lifting her completely out of the water at times and she (I assume it is a she) was exhausted. Thank you.
First of all thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate your kindness. I am sorry about your female dying.. it happens. They are still spawning. Goldfish will spawn throughout the summer if conditions are right. Have you recently had a change of temperature or a rain.. that can bring them back into spawn. If she is in spawn the males will chase her until she is empty of eggs. I generally keep a ratio of about 4-1 in males for spawning. The green, olive brown goldfish will most likely stay that colour. That is their wild / natural colour. Some darker ones with turn orange/ goldfish colour. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me on instagram or by leaving comments Take care
Thank you for such a quick response. They have calmed down today, so no issues ongoing. Would a 3 month old baby goldfish spawn? Seems really fast to me, but I am a newbie to this. It seems like almost every fish I purchased was a male, and if they are chasing the one, then are all the rest of her spawn this year males also? Are most newborn goldfish males, or is there a more equal ratio there? When I began this journey last year, I purchased two Shubunkin (males), and six goldfish (Comets and Common), of which two turned out to be females, the rest males. We added four more older Comets this year, and they all turned out to be males as well. With my white one (Moby) and the other female passing, I am now seeming left with all males. If the new white one (Baby Moby) is a female, the rest will run her ragged. I am going to be removing more of the males but will have to wait to see if some of the other broodmates of Baby Moby are females next year. Once again, thank you for your response. Take care. @@stubbsaquatics6080
Thanks for watching and commenting. In this tank I don't really have any live plants. I do in a lot of mine though. I have two good filters that help with keeping the nutrients down. I also have a nerite snail and two bristlenose plecos in there that really help. How long do you keep your lights on? How many watts? How many live plants do you have? . Lower the amount of light..
Thanks for watching. Depending on how much filtration you have and how big.. That's 10 gallons per fish.. so if it's really well filtered you should be ok just don't feed them more than once per day
Oh, I did set up a few new ones since his video went out. I'm trying to talk her into an indoor pond. You think you can help me with that? Hahaha thanks again my friend. Have a great weekend!
So lovely and beautiful goldfish. 1000 likes. 👍 My goldfish fins are torn. There are so many cuts. How to cure this problem and get beautiful fins back? Please reply.
Your goldfish may have fin rot or is there other fish that a nipping them. I would isolate, treat with salt bath, or methaline blue. Hopefully the fins might grow back. I would need to see to give you more info
@@stubbsaquatics6080 No. I'm keeping only goldfish and koi fish in my tank. Not any other fin nipping fish. Its fins are torn. But there are no red spots. The fish is very active and healthy except torn fins. It is like this for almost a year.

hello I'm from Indonesia, very lucky to meet you, even though we are from different countries. your video work is very beautiful, I always see it from every notification message that comes to the end of the video, I really appreciate your work, hopefully we can meet again in your latest video!
Well hello
Good to meet you.. Hope you enjoyed the video
Nice my friend watching po.
Very nice fish Chris 👍
Who knew there was so much to know about Shubunkins.
Stay safe.
Ty keith.. ya crazy amount of info...
As you know it's even worse for koi
Beautiful fish
Awww thanks so very much
great info.
Thanks for watching
Cool video your wife did a awesome job 💪💪
Thanks my friend.. I will let her know
Beautiful fish!! Thanks for the information on them!! Great video 👍
Thanks so much Jenny Lynn
1:23 top right corner is what color pattern & color of the Shubunkin ?. It´s pretty .
Good choice Karl.. I just bred him two days ago..
I am not sure there is a specific name for that.. it kinda has a becko pattern or a Shiro utsuri pattern if it was a koi but the red, or hi is spaced far apart.. so kinda like a sanke lol.. but I do like the look of it
I enjoyed watching it till the end thanks for the information 😊.
Ty Kristel.. you rock
@@stubbsaquatics6080 they are very lovely!! I hope they do win contest
Chris this was a great video!! You are breeding some amazing fish. Keep up the good work!!😃🎏🦩
Awwww thanks so very much..
That means so very much coming from the shubunkin queen ..
💪❤️♥️
Very beautiful goldfish and clear water. Is this because of the close relationship with Lake Ontario? Very rarely, my video shows a pond in a tourist destination in Japan.🐶🤗❤️❤️👍186
I live a hour or two away from Lake Ontario. I live north of there.
I love the Japanese culture and have modelled my backyard with that in mind mixing japan and Canada in one
Awesome video Chris, found this video very very informative!! All you shubunkins look absolutely stunning and very healthy!!! Huge credit to you !! Great to see the family getting involved 😀
Ty guys.. So much appreciated
Great Job!!!!!!
Nice one mate great update 👌👍👍

Great video. Thanks
Thanks so very much. I really appreciate you watching and commenting
Lots of good info! Thanks mate!😀👍
Ty Magnus.. I appreciate that.. Have a great weekend

The bigger the better as these fish can grow over a foot in length
I keep my biggest in an indoor 300 gallon pond during the winter .
This is one of my latest shubunkin goldfish videos if you are interested

This was really great info on them! Man that's some price tag, but relatively long lived fish at least. I love how Sandra says you work hard and deserve some! 🥰 You've bred some really beautiful fish there, love that finnage and those colors! Such graceful movements, too. 👍🙂
Awww Ty Tara.. I don't think I could buy those at that price.. I would not allow myself to...if that makes sense.. Hate putting price tags on everything...but I do when it comes to this hobby of ours..
Ty again for all your kindness and support

Hi do you guys in Canada get Bristol or London Shubunkins?
They are the show fish in the UK .
Hi there.. it's almost impossible to get bristol in Canada... we get more of what they call American shubunkin which have a tail more shaped like a comet ... but I breed for a longer fuller tail..
Awesome informative video 👍👍👍

Ty.. and thanks so much for letting us keep my little helper for so long.. We had a lot of fun.
Sandra did do an amazing job
Do you have any blue and black ones like in this Video, he has the little red patch on his face but rest of his body is a bright blue with black patches?
Hi Killian
I have newer videos that shows you where my breeding is going.
Yes I have a few
ua-cam.com/video/glzQ305zU9Q/v-deo.html
They tend to have more of a sarasa tail which is much longer with a forked tail
My Shubunkin have very long tailed. I purchased some a long time ago and bred them.. I did not keep the parents and kept breeding them until I have more of the patterns and fins that I like. My last shubunkin video demonstrates that a bit more.
I hope that answered your questions.
If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.

Aka Chris
I have bred my huge Shubunkin with my goldfish, they have turned out pink with black eyes or one black eye and one normal or bronze. They haven't coloured up yet so waiting to see how they all turn out.
Hi Jimmy
Thanks so very much for watching
It's pretty common to have two different eye colours
This video I recently did might help you out with how they might turn out
Be interested to see how they look

What type plants can i use for these fishes in tank?
By the way these are also my favourite breed of fishes
Hi Azhar.. In my ponds I have iris and lilies but inside I would stick to pothos hanging out of the tank along with java Fern and anubius inside
If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me on instagram or by leaving comments
Take care
How do you keep your tank free from algae with having live plants? We do frequent changes and usually within a week or two it's all covered again 😵💫
Awesome video guy's 💯👌👌👌
Ty pal
Good info!!!
I got 8 in a 80 gls! That's ok!? Or i need a bigger tank?
Thanks for watching.
Depending on how much filtration you have and how big..
That's 10 gallons per fish.. so if it's really well filtered you should be ok just don't feed them more than once per day
brilliant video stubs and i think you should set up a new tank looks like you have the wife's go ahead on the decision lol
Oh, I did set up a few new ones since his video went out. I'm trying to talk her into an indoor pond. You think you can help me with that? Hahaha thanks again my friend. Have a great weekend!
cool info man this was some great fish you breeding man 52 💪💪🐟🐟🐠🐠🐟🐟
Ty so very much
So lovely and beautiful goldfish. 1000 likes. 👍
My goldfish fins are torn.
@@stubbsaquatics6080
No. I'm keeping only goldfish and koi fish in my tank. Not any other fin nipping fish.
Its fins are torn. But there are no red spots. The fish is very active and healthy except torn fins. It is like this for almost a year.
@@santhosh5796 is there anything sharp in the tank that it can be ripping it's fins..
Just the one fish fins?
@@stubbsaquatics6080
No any sharp pointing objects inside my aquarium. Only one blue colour shubunkin goldfish has torn fins. Totally I have only 5 goldfish in my tank. I'm keeping them for more than three years.
Very strange.. I would take it out and give a salt bath then put it back or in another tank. The salt will help the fish produce a slime coat .
Is a 50 gallon pond enough for 2 shubunkins?
It's kinda small.. but as long as there is only 2 and it's not in direct sun , should be ok .
Is there a pump or filter? Any plants?
@@stubbsaquatics6080 It has a filter and some hornwort plants.
They should be ok..just know that they may outgrow the pond in a couple years.
@@stubbsaquatics6080 I am planning to upgrade to a 160 gallon pond in about a year. How many adult shubunkins would that be enough for?
I would go with 4-5.
I know that's not very many but for optimum growth and health that is what I would recommend.
Hope that helps
I thought that my shibunken was part koi
but i guess they really do just get that big?
They do get big but can interbreed with koi. .
Thanks for watching I really appreciate it
@@stubbsaquatics6080 it was a very helpful video! thanks :)
shubunkins are one of the most beautiful goldfish
I totally agree with you. Thanks so very much.
What plant or vegetables do you recommend?
To grow ... From waist water or to feed them?
Are they okay to be kept in a tank, and what size tank do you recommend if so ?
You can. I would recommend 90-100 gallons for good growth
Thanks for watching and commenting
How manny Shubunkin i can put in a 75gls tank?
Hi there.
If you have good filtration. I think you can put 5-6 shubunkin goldfish in there. They will grow big in that.
Them and Sarasa comets are my best fish breed
Thanks so very much.. I love sarasa comets.. I need to find a really nice one and cross with my shubunkin goldfish
