I been in Oakland all my life. That mural in the 100’s on E14th has always been a mystery to me. I’m glad I found this documentary. That mural is still up there.
I remember in the 90s seeing when it was being done . I think it was DreamTdk(rip) that painted it. It barely got hit up over the years. i remember seeing it being touched up here and there.
One of my last memories of him is when he stopped by my crib and he invited me to a studio session by Knowland. I ended up not goin... That session was Quest For Survival. It was me up now that I didn't go. R.I.P Jesse, Coby, Hev, Mike!
@spie one Thank you so much for uploading: I've been actively searching for this ever since I first heard the Plan Bee 12". R.I.P. Jesse and Mike Dream.
this is a bay area time capsule. captured the whole vibe with the players in the street art and music scene. the pre hyphy underground bay scene was potent. peace and all the flowers to these straight kingz. PLAN B/ SAAFIR/MIKE DREAM
Thank you for this documentary These are my cousin I remember my mother waking me up even I was 10 telling me my cousin Jessie died 12 years later his baby brother is killed. This really broke my family but we are strong
Holy shit I remember this on kqed from back in the day. Massive props for uploading man. I met mike dream at the t-shirt shop in hilltop mall he was the airbrush artist there and he was hella cool. I drew out one of my throwups for him and he gave me props. You were a huge inspiration for me too spie all that old bay shit changed my life. RIP dream RIP plan-bee. Damn. I found this upload cause I’ve been looking for years trying to f8nd the song at the end of this documentary I remember it being big nous and I always thought the song was speak the truth but I never knew for certain. That song always haunted me that fucking horn in the beat. Hobo junction always been raw. All these legends in this shit. You’re a legend to me too spieone and you made my fucking year for posting this. Bless u and peace! Gelos1
No doubt bro I was asking with u as well. That’s what I meant when I said which one, my bad if I didn’t word that properly. But I’m with you, I would like to know too it sounds hella good. Still a mystery..
I wonder if the rapper Saafir had something to do with Plan Bee's death. Saafir's career seemed to have blown up shortly after the murder of Jesse (Touring with Digital Underground, being featured heavily on their LP-The Body Hat Syndrome, living with 2Pac, acting in Menace II Society, being signed to a major label). 22:02 is a chilling remark, considering Saafir later was signed to Quincy Jones QWest records, releasing Boxcar Sessions. could be a coincidence, but I feel that blood is required in the entertainment industry. This is of course, my opinion. This is an excellent documentary.
@@Watani_Fahim True, but who knows what goes on in people's minds. Dig this: I remember reading a small Source article on Saafir ("Microphone Check in Dec '94 issue). He was talking about his album. He said that his song, "Worship the Dick" was inspired by him in a room watching two women- fucking each on an altar while practicing witchcraft. As a SoCal hood youth, that blew my mind. Sounded like some hippie shit. I know he was from the Bay, but damn!
@@tmat2024 word up! I used to perform with hiero, living legends, the junction and was signed in the bay. Saafir and I bumped shoulders a few times. Dude was really off the meat rack. You’re right who knows but it’s fucked up id he did.
@@Watani_Fahim Nice! Bet there was lots of great memories for you back then. We grew up in a dope era for hip-hop. Another side note: Did you read the article when Shock G visited Saafir? He wrote how he was in a wheelchair, living in a filthy apartment, eating 7-11 burritos, chain smoking Newports, etc.Wow! Doesn't sound like a friend to me. Sounds like humiliation!
It’s big nous and I think it’s named speak the truth but I’m not 100% sure. It’s been impossible to find. I too have been waiting to find this for over 20 years. I recorded the documentary on kqed to vhs back in the day but it’s been misplaced/lost. This upload is huge. Such a great doc.
@@problactive285 it's Big Nous rhyming, but that track isn't "Running From 5-0." You can hear Running from 5-0 here on UA-cam, just search "Plan Bee feat Saafir - Runnin From 5 0"
