It brings tears to the eye to see The RZA,Large Pro,Redman,Saafir,Too Short,De La,Scarface and others showing love to the SOM. It's a beautiful thing when we celebrate our own.
Mos Def, too
@@8stepstoperfection7734 Many more too. You'd have to take notes throughout the whole video to catch them all. Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Phife Dawg, the turntablist dudes, Quest Love did a cool quick shootout and drew the third eye logo in the air with his fingers. Murs and Sunspot Jonz from Living Legends, can't remember any more without watching again but I felt the same, just so awesome to see them getting props from everyone coast to coast, mainstream/indie whatever.
Oh how could I forget Kanye rapping parts of 93' Til Infinity and big upping SOM then of course makes it about himself for a bit.
Yeah it's something that should be done more often.
Definitely
I'm from Zimbabwe, Africa. When this album came out, we had the copies spreading around high schools like fire. You just never know to which parts of the world great hip-hop has reached. Thanks Shingi Chodeva for letting me borrow the VHS tape that had the 93 Til Infinity video so much.
U guys had high schools in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼? That’s hectic. What were they like???
@@bookreaderson yeah, we have high schools in Zimbabwe. There are government High Schools and Private high schools. You have to wear uniforms in all the schools. Co-ed, only boys and only girls schools.
I guess I can speak for myself, high school was mostly fun. Balanced school work, sports and social life. It was a blast. Shout out to all my teachers at St. John's High School and Vainona High School in the 90s.
@@gorsam1979 I graduated high school in 2000 here in 🇨🇦 Canada. I went to a catholic high school for the first half , we had to wear uniforms also. Then in grade 11 I switched over to the public high school, no uniform. I miss the 90s so much I feel homesick sumtimes n I don’t know why
93’ til infinity will forever be my favourite song
Mine too. Might possibly be the best hip hop song ever!

Str8 up classic!!🔥🔥🔥

Top 3 definitely
Definitely on my "can't live without it" playlist
The music video itself is literally the first of its kind nd its monumental
Im from Maryland and when BET played "thats when you lost" on BET in my sophomore year in 92 I ran and grabbed my radio and taped OVER already recorded music without checking first! i only managed to get half the song but played it all the time. Until later when 93' Til Infinity dropped in 1993. Im an east coast cat, but loyal fan from the jump. The mighty Souls of Mischief, Del and Heiro forever yall
This documentary is amazing. Its so cool hearing stories from everyone and all the people they inspired. We need a documentary like this for A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde too
Beats. Rhymes and Life is ATCQ but definitely agreed with wanting a ‘cyde documentary.
Bloody hell I remember getting pharcyde on cassette. Lol

Born and raised in the Bay Area. My Grandmother was born in Oakland. This album hit like a earthquake. It truly was an amazing time for Hip Hop. Hieroglyphics we're unlike anything. I feel very lucky to be able to have grown up witnessing it.
I remember a number of years back I tweeted to Tajai asking about his lyrics on paid dues. To my surprise I got a reply really humble guy.
He’s the man in Oakland bro. Real stand up brother right there!
Growing up in Alameda, it blew my mind that these dudes made most of these tracks while still in highschool in Oakland! It let us know it was possible and definitely shaped our initial style and drive for the next 15 years or so. Our music careers of course pale by comparison, but Psychokinetics, Celsius 7 and KALRI$$IAN would not have existed without SOM and Del. Thank you. Much love and respect .. til infinity ✌🏼👊🏼 - JB

93' Til Infinity was the first CD I ever owned. I got it for Christmas with my first CD player in 93.
Nas, WU-Tang, Big L, Lords of The Underground, Digable Planets, SOM, B.D.P, Naughty By Nature, Rakim, B.I.G, Tupac, OutKast, E-40, this is a small representation of early 90’s diversity just in the hip-hop rap that was evolving so fast. A different style from everywhere that made it so much better. Listen to those artist now just brings me back to those days in the hardbody 92 Nissan truck getting chased out of the parking lot from pounding beats for blocks
This was a great documentary. I really like how they told all the stories song by song. Alot of really cool stories in here damn. Thanks for putting this together!
So glad to see this! One of the most under-rated groups from the "Golden Age" of Hip-Hop.
I feel u famo. Casual was my dude. love that record Ain't my fault ur girl got caught. I 💘 the whole crew. mad gifted brother s. if they never told u . wouldn't know they were from West Coast. I support all Coast. always have. .
Underrated by who though?

@@nr126 man they rarely get brought up when dudes speak all this 90s golden era stuff. For us here in this thread WE know the position they held but the folks not mentioning em shows how many Johnny-come-latelys there are out here.
@@mayonaze2g 93 til is a classic, but every other album they made was hella mediocre so only Hiero heads keep their name alive basically.
This was a beautiful point in time that will never be replaced or copied
The first video that I saw from Souls Of Mischief was "That's When You Lost". That song was on a different level. . . way back in 1993.
Just saw them live on their 30 years anniversary tour this week in Dortmund, Germany.
They played an awesome Show!
One of my favorite Hip Hop groups of all time!
I wasn't even born when 93 Til... Dropped - Nevertheless, it is one of my top 5 records. PERIOD. That record means the world to me. My girlfriend bought me this album on Vinyl and it's one of my most prized possessions.
Growing up and going to school in the 00's/2010's meant growing up around kids following the mindless garbage that trends without having any substance. SOM always felt like big brothers to me, shielding me from garbage I heard on the radio, saw on TV and heard around school and amongst my friends. It was almost impossible to get caught up on these fads and bullshit when I was so enthralled and captivated by these guys. I heard 93 Til (title track) and it blew my mind. I heard 'Limitations' and then 'Live and Let Live' when it became clear to me that I couldn't listen to another artist for a solid month. This doco took me back to my school days when I was repping hard for the real hip hop. That wasn't even a full decade ago and I feel a certain type of way; I can just imagine by a fraction how nostalgic some of you vets must feel.
Thank you, A-Plus, Opio, Tajai and Phesto. We have not met but you four are heroes to a Gen-Y light skin mixed brother living halfway across the globe in Australia. I want you guys to know that.
Much love.

This album changed my life. I was 18 and a DJ in a rap group. Just started smoking weed and boom this drops lol. So awesome to see the story behind it is even doper than I thought. Thank you SOM
"Who wants to battle the master?" I fucking love Del! That story is legendary.
They were young and had a burning desire. Desire with intention. That’s the formula.
Before Hiero came on the scene Del said in a verse “the 3rd eye is nothing to smile about” when the logo for Hieroglyphics crew came out that shit blew my mind. I’m not saying that’s what it meant but for kids to pull that apart from the lyrics was dope
90’s Hip hop is just amazing. It was so real and passionate back then. When I hear some real dope rhymes and boom bap beats it’s nothing but goosebumps for me.. I was born in ‘93. How did I just see this today? Almost was late for work. Just finished 11 hours later. 10/10. I wore this tape out, had to get it on CD.
I could write a book about the importance of this album to me. "It means more to me than it could ever mean to you."
Ok, picture this: Its freshman year (circa September 1993) of a magnet high school that I felt completely intimidated by. I am from the hood in Nashville, TN. This is not my zoned school or neighborhood friends. I ride the city bus to school and listened to '93 til Infinity EVERY DAY on my walkman; also while in school to avoid interacting with these smart kids that I didn't feel I related to. I felt like this album, this group was the best description of me: a black kid from the hood that loved hiphop and had an extensive vocabulary. Still, the SOM were using words I loved, over beats I loved, with flows that were superior to anything I'd ever heard before. So...I am in the library listening to '93 and these girls were in the library too one table over from me. I was by myself or there was someone at the same table as me, but I didn't really know them. I was trying not to look at the girls because they were sophomores and I thought they were my speed, but had no game to throw at them. I saw them looking at me, but it just drove me deeper into my walkman. One girl gets up and approaches me and she's one of the cuter ones. As she draws near my anxiety grows. She motions for me to come out of my headphones and ask me what my name is. All my 14 year old brain could muster as she and the other girls looked at me was..."I'm the n____ with the better rhymes!" (Limitations) Immediately after I said it I felt like an idiot. Thanks SOM! There's so much more to say. Congrats on holding it down for nearly 30 years. My obsession today is Eshon Burgundy. Y'all should do a song with him. Peace.
no.
we could all do that for this album. It was that album that marks time
Damn I wanna hear more!
lol what happened after you said that
Saw them all live when I lived in Philadelphia
Like a lot of people, souls of mischief is part of the soundtrack to my life. thankyou for everything! 93 til infinity
Dope ass documentary.. I still to this day support their grind. Being a hip hop purest, I always looked at hieroglyphics being a west coast wu tang. But with not wu style .The same way I always saw Dungeon Family as a southern wu tang. Some of the best MC’s out of all these crews Just my opinion.
93 Til is one of the greatest tracks of all time
I've been waiting on this period of Hip Hop to arrive. The stage where we're no longer obsessed with the newest and the latest. An era were we can fully appreciate the past for what it was. Rock and Roll has been there for a while now and it's a sign of the maturity of the art form.
Thank you UA-cam algorithm - this is the nuts!
From the second I heard 93 til I was like ahhhhhhhhhhhh this shit is sick...I was 15 man crazy I can't describe the feeling..
Del is still my favorite rapper to this day
The entire Hiero crew is underappreciated as a whole...give them their flowers! These dudes are the definition of hip hop to the core....
