  • I was tired of vacuuming the dust by hand. So I designed a for me perfect dust collection system for my Mostly Printed CNC (MPCNC). It's much more convenient this way. No more big dust mess after every milling job.

I really like the grid you drew on the sacrificial board. What a great reference...

Very nicely done. Your 3-D printed parts designs are spectacular.

Very creative, aesthetic and efficient solution! Well done! No need for a bristle skirt - it only misses minimal high velocity wood chips!

Very nice dust collection solution! This one looks clean and should get most of the dust 🙂
    Two things I noticed:
    1. You could have avoided milling the pocket hole for the "splitter" part by simply milling the inner contour to remove the "pocket part". Should have decreased milling time by a lot!
    2. I would expect the friction fit of the dust/suction shoe to become loose over time due to constant vibration.
Would be great to have plans/design files for this 👍

Outstanding job. I need one like that for my upcoming CNC. I will probably not like SAW DUST all over the place.

my next move is to make a dust shoe with a fixed height like this. but since my problem is i'm using a makita router, the chips are bigger and would clog a pipe smaller than 50mm. and the bigger the pipe(s), the more air can flow through them as long as the vacuum system is able to move the air. mine's a cyclone system to keep the hepa filter as clean as possible for as long as possible. i'll probably make a one sided bracket attached by 1mm steel profiles that holds the 50mm riser pipe from a bristled dust shoe that has some clearance for the makita tool holder to plunge through. but for now i'm using a magnet attached dust shoe that's 3d printed and glued in paint brush bristles.

Awesome design; ingenious and practical. I especially liked the fact that the height of the dust shoe could be adjusted independently from the cutting head.
It appeared that you had a little bit of clearance to spare in that last test. I’m betting that if the shoe was lowered to only a few millimeters above the work surface, you’ll probably capture most of the larger chips, as well. No need for a brush or “skirt”, as another commenter mentioned.

Marvelous job! Would love to build something similar. If I do, I'll make sure to credit you as inspiration, any chance you're selling or sharing files?

Are there more improvements you have planned, such as adding fingers to help stop those high speed chips from escaping, or is it not worth it? It looks very effective and adding more would block your view of the tool and part.

Very nice work. I would be interested to see a video of your 3D printer setup . Your prints look fantastic. What printer do you use?
