Very true. There is a case where a rich Indian actress said on a tv show that there is no one more frugal than me while there were rumours that she bought a Balenciaga handbag worth 10 lakh rupees which is around 12000 dollars.
I like this video because John and Ed talk about watches like normal people not watch snobs or “experts” the discussion makes sense and is more relatable than so many other watch discussions by snobs like …
It was interesting to see what having absolutely limitless money gets you in the watch world. When Ed Sheeran just casually says “yeah I got this after being the number one artist in the world” 💀💀💀
@@14lamnc1 it was sold out by the time they got it, I doubt they got 2 fresh from AP. Probably just called around dealer friends and sourced them asap.
Would've been great if the video showed bits of Nico reacting to the ENTIRE video instead of beginning 30mins, because most of the moments were towards the end, like when they put the minute repeater chime in between and the story behind Kikuchi Nakagawa and then talking about AP concepts and then casually agreeing on buying an AP concept like it's a candy.
Nico didn't understand the point about the Rolex, he didn't wear it because he would look to successful wearing such a well known "expensive watch" at an early level of success
I love how Nico is humbled by the piece uniques that both John and Ed have and he has to bring his own out lol. I wonder if this video will kickstart a trend in people customising their watches.
I just wish Nico finished the whole video before making his verdict. Yes it was long and tbh I wish it was longer bacause I loved their conversation even more so than the actual watches.
Watched this video and I think you are spot on. These guys are talking about stuff mortals will only see on programs like this. Felt Mayer dominated the conversation a little too but the guy know his stuff and can somehow get away with it.
You made the video way better Nico! Thank you for the honest commentary on how strange and privileged this conversation is. So many people commenting, pretending like they belong to the same group of people. Such a bizarre industry.
Its absolutely mental how nonchalantly Ed Sheeran talks about these watches. If a person who has no interest in watches listened to this conversation, they'd think hes talking about 500 quid watches.
I think also, when it comes to customisations, there is a difference when it’s “Ed Sheehan’s” watch that he wore at a certain concert etc. It’s not going to loose value as Ed Sheehan’s custom watch.
Oh, and at the end of the video they said they'd buy the Spider-man AP, and guess what? THEY DID 😂 Such an amazing friendship, conversation, passion exchange and of course; amazing watches
you did great with this one, keep doing it! I just wanted to take a moment to say how amazing your video was! I was really impressed with the quality of the footage, the editing, and the overall presentation. You did a great job of explaining the topic in a clear and concise way, and I learned a lot from watching your video. ;)
okay, about the Toy Watch. He briefly mentions that he got one with his friend Jamal and then they quickly moved on and i think this is a shame. I believe he talks about Jamal Edwards, a proper LEGEND in a UK music world. This dude basically saved Ed Sheeran when Ed was a homeless teenager just playing his small guitar on a streets. Jamal had an internet hip-hop platform called SBTV, and he was providing this platform to an underground talented artists, helping artists to spread their music. And Ed Sheeran was one of the artists that was invited to perform on SBTV and this performance helped tremendously. Some other artists that started out from SBTV are Stormzy, Dave, Jessie J, Rita Ora and many more. Outside of SBTV Jamal had a project called "JED" that was focused on reopening youth centers, he shot a documentary about mental health and men unaliving themselves, and overall helped a lot of young homeless people to get out of the streets. Sadly Jamal Edwards passed away in 2022. Man was a proper LEGEND and i believe Ed Sheeran would never ever throw away or sell this Toy Watch.
Appreciate the reaction video , I did enjoy the full length talk , thought it was very special to see some unique pieces , wish you spoke about the Japanese watches he got for his daughters rather than the Pateks, appreciate you not going on a rant about hublot and keeping it relevant. John did talk a lot but I don’t think he can help it cause he’s so passionate about it , personally I’d love the video to be three hours and listen to John Mayer talk watches , he’s next level. Overall great video Nico , educational as always , came out learning something new , I learned I’m broke and not living on the moon 😂😂
the worst of hodinkee for me now is its audience. no other watch channel has such a pouting comment section and it feels like a this point its just the default stance to take towards hodinkee productions...and I dont see how they could come out of it
The hilarity of John Mayer saying an Ed Sheeran piece unique from Patek Philippe would hold no resale value. A slice of cake from QEII's wedding sold for like 500 quid. Eggs, flour, butter, 70 years of mold and it sold for 500 quid.
Not gona lie, I felt insignificant after watching the video 😂😂😂😂😂 I love about effing time, cause it’s exactly the opposite of the John’s video, they talk about pieces normal people can get.

Hey Nico, I know you've said that if you haven't heard from your AD in three weeks, you're not on their radar for a Rolex (paraphrased)...I gotta say you're on point. While it did take just over two months to get my hands on a new no-date sub, I got a call around the three-week mark letting me know he hadn't forgotten me and was working the issue. Not wearing the Rolex was because nobody is gonna want to support a new artist who is already rich and looking like they're flexing their wealth. Yes wearing a Rolex doesn't mean you are rich or trying to show off BUT to the average person, it does. So the manager made the right call. Makes you more relatable to not wear it.
