A Very Cool Digital Measuring Tool

- Today on Cool Tools I'm sharing a fun way to measure all the curved edges on your pattern pieces... Plus, I'm sure you will find other ways to use this cool digital measuring tool! After a little bit of practice, I give this little gadget two thumbs up! Simply roll it in one directions to measure a curve. Then roll it backwards along the same curve and it subtracts ...If you end up at 0 at the end of your curve, goal! You have an accurate measurement. Plus, if you want to measure multiple curved lines and get a grand total... it does that too! You can even measure on fabric to see how long your crotch curves are!! ...I'll be using this digital measuring tool A LOT!!

I have seen this tool come up on my FB Feed. I also thought it would have loads of use in pattern work and sewing. Some time ago I purchased one of those curved wheel, blade rulers, which continually disappointed & frustrated me as I would slip off to the side or I forget how many revolutions it did etc. At the time I thought there had to be a digital solution but Google either failed me or the tool was beyond budget. Seeing you demonstrate this and explain what to practice was very helpful. I’ll probably get one to try out. ❤
This one is reasonably priced & it does work really well.. I’m excited that I can use it to compare the length of my sleeve/sleeve caps & necklines/collar stands :)

Cool tool and cool demo, thank you Jen, just checked and I can get this in the UK. I'm sure Amazon think I'm some sort of handyman with all my non-sewing 'sewing' gadgets, haha. Been experimenting with a laser level lately for hemming and this is going on my wish list but I might just have to get my Dad one too, he would love it.

This looks like a useful concept, but the design could be better. Not fully considering your audience is often a fault of designers. That being said, I’d buy one because it, ultimately, would make my sewing life easier.
I was not super excited about it when it arrived until I started using it... Always test things that I share on Cool Tools before sharing them with you. There are quite a few things that I purchased and then after trying them, they did not make the Cool Tools standard. ....Most recently, I purchased a set of rub tipped tweezers ...thinking they would make it easier to grasp thread and other thing...The rubber tips had a gap between the pointed ends, so the thread just slipped through. ...I gave those to my Dad to use in this wood shop! Jen it seems like a cool tool. Can it measure both inches and centimetres?
Yes! You can switch it to metric... and if you are running it backwards to double check your measurement... it will start measuring past 0 so you can see the how much different the double check is from the original!
Easy to take traveling.
That's what I was thinking!! When I unpacked from the National ASG Conference, I was very sad to see that a corner of my quilting ruler snapped off coming home in the suitcase. This little gadget will pack really nicely!
When you are subtracting, will it give a negative number if the second length is longer than the first or does it stop at 0.0?
If you "over shoot" your original measurement, it starts counting back down the other way so you can see what the difference is. Thank you for asking that, I should have included that info in the tutorial! Thanks for watching
