What I think is hilarious is how Mickey is treated like an absolute rock star at the parks. Every time I see Fantasmic, the second Mickey shows up the place absolutely goes nuts, with grown men yelping and whooping like they're at the Super Bowl. The only thing missing is people flicking their lighters requesting Free Bird. Aliens observing us would be completely befuddled at crowds of humans cheering for a giant cartoon mouse. It's weird and wonderful all at the same time.

I don't remember them celebrating any other 10 year anniversaries (though granted, on Mickey's 80th I was only 7), but it's insane how all out Disney's been going for this! I really wish I could visit the pop up museum in NY. I just really can't wait to see what happens on his 100th!
In 1988 Walt Disney World opened it's first new land due to Mickey's Birthday called Mickey's Birthdayland, which later changed to Mickey's Starland then onto Mickey's Circus.

Last week I picked up the "Celebrating Mickey" Blu-Ray for one of my son's to have for Christmas. I'm looking forward to watching with him a side of mickey he is largely unfamiliar with in the original shorts.
My favorite about Mickey Mouse is the Epic Mickey series. That game made me sympathize with Oswald and how he felt and made me happy to see Mickey come to terms with his long lost older brother.
My favorite video game ever is Epic Mickey for the Wii. It terrified me in the second grade, but as I got older I came to love it. It's what got me into Disney history in the first place, and why I like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit almost as much as Mickey Mouse himself.
When I was really little, one of the Disney movies I would watch over and over again was Fun and Fancy Free. I also had a compilation VHS called The Spirit of Mickey which had all of the old cartoons, so Mickey has been part of my life for a long time

I have two favorite Mickey memories. My first trip to WDW was in the summer of 89. He had just turned 60 the previous year, but they were still celebrating it. Where Sonny Eclipse currently performs, they had a live band, and the characters would come up on stage for a bit, and pick one special kid to be given a pin wheel. Seeing the show earlier, I knew how things worked. I saw a cast member trying to talk to a child much younger than me. Despite being 6, I feared that I was too old to be picked. She had been selected before the show even started, but was too scared. So I got picked instead. I still have that pinwheel to this very day. Mickey, in his 80s design was all over it My other favorite Mickey memory was when I took my kid to WDW for her first time in 2015. Forget the look in her eyes, you should've seen ME! I couldn't believe it! He could talk! He could blink! He could interact! He spoke a little Portuguese to the guests in front of us! I was so saddened to hear that they silenced him. We visited him every year till this year.
A couple years ago, I arrived at Disneyland early enough to witness the opening of Toontown for the day. There was a small crowd of families with young children, and when the gates were opened, Mickey and Minnie came dancing out, waving, and then each of them took two children by the hand and led them into Toontown like old friends. I tend to think of the costumed characters as a bit corny, but that? That's gonna be the memory of a LIFETIME for those kids. Mickey is great because he's everyone's friend.
I actually plan on getting a hidden mickey tattoo behind my left ear. The reason being that ever since i was a kid we would visit Disney yearly, considering we lived on long island. When we went, my sisters and I would always be super into pin trading. I've collected hundreds of things and still have the first one i ever trade for from back in 2006, but my favorite pins were the sets of hidden Mickeys, which i would always hunt around the parks for. So to commemorate the magic Disney has brought me and the birthday of the mouse that started it all, I'm getting my own hidden Mickey.

My favorite Mickey themed anything is the old 30s & 40s comics by Floyd Gottfredson. The art style was great, with that early animation style, but it was the characterization of Mickey that really stands out. He was adventurous, ready to get in fights, sarcastic sometimes, and generally much more rambunctious and bold than his later characterizations. There were some great story arcs like Monarch of Medioka, World of Tomorrow to name a couple of my favorites. I highly recommend anyone who likes the early Mickey cartoons or adventure comics in general to check them out.
My favorite Mickey Mouse has got to be the one in I believe 19 99 when I first went to Disney World with my parents at Age 3 and I got to see Mickey Mouse and take a picture with him. Also at my house we have the Spirit of Mickey VHS, which is a collection of Mickey Mouse throughout the ages and it even has the "Steamboat Willie" cartoon from 1928.

O.O I didn't get to go for my first time until I was 9 in 2001 and ever since, I've always been telling people you probably shouldn't take kids till they're like five... only because I actually got lucky enough to have a best friend from California who had been brought to Disneyland when she was three and she remembered nothing. But I still count it as lucky because for most of my life, she's always been not only the one friend of mine who has been to a Disney park at all but also because she's always been like a sister to me and not everyone gets to make a friend that really feels like family.
When I was a kid, the Magic Kingdom had a theater on Main Street showing classic Mickey cartoons. I remember watching Steamboat Willie there back in the ‘70s
As a kid, I personally loved him in House of Mouse and of course the classic cartoon shorts. But now as a grown up person, the really best memory of him is from watching Fantasia, which is still my number one favourite Disney movie of all time!

So I havent been to a Disney park since I was 13 and I'm 27 now. I love anything Mickey but you mentioning the Mickey Mouse Club reminded me of when I was around I think 6 at my babysitter's house. It was an overnight night and at that time I needed background noise to sleep so I remember her leaving the Disney Channel on and I woke up super early in the morning (like 2am maybe?) but the original Mickey Mouse Club was on and I was so hooked. I didnt go to sleep until the episodes stopped showing. I'll never forget it. I think my favorite Mickey in anything is his role in Kingdom Hearts. That game played a huge role in my life
I think my most memorable Mickey moment was getting to meet him for the first time at Disney World. I was almost 18 years old, but I felt like a little kid meeting their hero. I'm a Disneyland Paris child, and there is literally no better feeling than walking down for breakfast at the Newport Bay hotel and seeing Mickey ready for meet and greets. Even at 20 years old, when I've seen that sight so many times, it still makes me so happy it almost brings a tear to my eye.

What I find interesting is how as far as my knowledge goes, they've never really gone to many lengths to expose his humanity and depth as a character (please correct me if I've missed an essential show or something in that regard, I'm just going off what I've seen), but the sheer amount of love poured directly at him exemplifying his purity and sheer goodness has validated his worth in all our minds...very well played
I love Mickey, I love all Disney! The most memorable moment for me is the very first time I met Mickey Mouse when I went to Disneyland for the first time, I was around 10 years old. I’ve always been a fan of the Mickey Mouse Club.
I know I'm a touch late to the party, but I was thinking about this. My probably favorite Mickey memory was the year of my sixth birthday. My parents took me to Disney World in the summer, and on my birthday I had a "joint" party for my 6th and Mickey's 60th, since my birthday is also November 18th. It had a Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey theme. That sort of instilled a lifelong love of Disney and Mickey that holds true to this day. I'm even planning to go to the park next year so I'll be in the Magic Kingdom on our birthday!
Disney litterally kept me sane when things got bad in my family, that's all I can say. As for my favourite Mickey Short, I'd say it's a tie between The Sorcerer's Apprentice and The Prince and the Pauper. In both shorts, the colours and shading of the character are fantastic, and both stories are compelling (Especially (in the Sorcerer's Apprentice) when Mickey dreams of making the star dance around him and making the sea stormy with the flick of a wrist and (In The Prince and the Pauper) when Mickey (posing for the Prince) visits the King in his dying hour and promises to rule over the kingdom with fairness and kindness. That one particular scene is shot divinely. And, it's by far, the most serious and dark Mickey scene I've ever seen, so unlike what Mickey usually do, but oh so beautifully shot...
As a child, when I went to Disney world we saw Fantasmic. I don’t remember much of Disney, but I do remember that. It was my absolute favorite memory of Mickey, and I cherish it!
Ugh, pretty sure Ub Iwerks did the first drawings of Mickey. As far as I can tell, Walt only came up with the idea of doing a mouse on that train ride.
When I was a kid (I was born in 97), DVD wasn't popular yet, so we had nearly every Disney animated movie on VHS. (We still have them, and are missing maybe 2 or 3.) One of them is The Spirit of Mickey, which is how I saw Steamboat Willie and a bunch of other Mickey Mouse cartoons for the first time.
I grow up with that mickey mouse club. I used to watch it every morning with my mom before school, I really wish that I had access to it again... i would love to watch it again and get all nostalgic.
my favorite Micky things The Epic Mickey Video Game series. This got me interested in the Park's history and finding all those real life hidden Mickies. I would love to see a video on the game vs real life park history however. Mickey's 6oth Birthday. What an epic story. I love a calibration when its a story more then when its song and dance numbers and interviews. Micky in The Little Whirlwind, this got me in to classical music The House of Mouse: Its fun to see every Disney character in the background having fun and interacting. The Disney Chanel Logo. Simple and fun to draw. Instantly recognizable except to my teachers who didn't get it. Who Framed Rodger Rabbit. What a great crossover cameo. Meeting Micky Mouse at his house at toon Town, that felt like the best way to encounter him. Tiny 1 to 2 inch tall Micky Figurines., Those were fun to collect and had so many different poses. Get a Horse!, mickey returns in an animated short that included references to his older and newer works and a cameo by Oswald, the rabbit is finally back in some thing Disney relayed. BTW I would love a video on Oswald. and finally , the Micky Mouse club for giving us an iconic catchy song and helping a bunch of kids become future stars and it helps me spell the character's name.

My favourite Mickey Mouse “movie” would be The Spirit of Mickey. I used to watch it on repeat as a kid. Then when I went to the parks while my grandparents checked us into our hotel they had a little area for kids to colour and there was a tv playing all the shorts from the vhs! It felt so magical to me. This Sunday I’ll be curling up with my Mickey plush and watching that same vhs from when I was a kid.
I hope that rumor is true, Anaheim’s Toontown needs some love. I was four years old when it opened, the perfect age to enjoy everything it had to offer. My family went to Disneyland almost every summer during a period in the 90s, and Toontown was one of my favorite parts. Between 2002 and 2017, a series of circumstances led me to miss out on every trip my family took to the park.When I finally made it back there last summer, seeing what Toontown had become was like being reunited with a relative or old friend after years of drug addiction and self-harm. Not only were so many of the attractions I enjoyed as a kid gone, but everything was filthy and/or falling apart. Of course, I’d be far too big to ride most of those attractions anyway, but it saddens me that today’s kids can’t buy practical joke stuff at the Gag Factory, jump in the acorn pit at the Chip ‘n Dale Treehouse (which remains totally empty and abandoned twenty years after it closed), or ride the Jolly Trolly. People seem to like Goofy’s Playhouse, but there’s nothing like the original Bounce House. I could excuse all of these closings if what was left wasn’t so filthy, but I guess there’s little incentive to clean it up when the area hasn’t received anything new in so long that would increase traffic. A new ride themed around Mickey could be just what it needs.
My favorite thing involving Mickey Mouse is looking for all those amazing hidden mickeys in movies and on Disney rides, some of my favorite include the expedition Everest mountain and the plates at the haunted mansion
Not "favorite" necessarily - My biggest experience with Mickey was more along the lines of the costumed horrors you mentioned. Early 70s in Disney World I met a Mickey actor at maybe age 5.. saw up into his head and realized there was PERSON in there. Totally traumatized. Disillusioned, the rest of the park suddenly seemed a sham. I must have gotten over it, but to this day I remember the shock when the bubble of illusion burst. It's a good thing I still have heroes like Santa, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy or I would simply lose it.

No matter what your friends do or say about Santa (etc..) You get to choose to believe and as long as you do, you get to have that in your world. I chose to belive.. so my world still has that bit of innocence. I think that has always been Disney's vision.
They used to have Mickey Mouse clubhouse at Disneyland in the Opera House. You could go and for 3 0r 4 bucks you joined the club, got a hat and an official membership card. I will always remember that and I wish I still had that stuff! Happy Birthday Micky!
My first trip to DW, '96, my fam and i were in line to something in toontown. We thought it was a show about Mickey. Turns out, we were in line to MEET MICKEY! It was great being 11 and meeting the head cheese.
My childhood cartoons and merchandise is most Disney, but Mickey (And Minnie) are ICONIC AS AFF and even went as far to ask my dad to draw a proper Mickey for us because we usually like to make our Mickeys in squares... Yea. I can’t control my round structures at 4-5 years old! I have yet to visit a Meet and Greet of that talking Mickey at the Disneyland parks...!!!

Growing up I never had anyone inspiring who shared my birthday, no president, historic icon, humanitarian, or celebrated artist. It wasn’t until my 13th birthday that I learned I was born on my idol’s birthday when Mickey Mouse turned 50. I’ll admit I’ve turned out a bit more jaded, snarky, and cynical than his example set, but whenever I feel lowest, I know Mickey will rekindle my better self.
Two Things - My favorite Mickey experience is one time when I was watching the Soundsational parade with my younger cousin. It got to the part that primarily centered around Donald. My cousin shouted, "Hey, Donald... we want Mickey!" because apparently children really enjoy MM! And... is it just me or does Dallin look kind of like a super young Walt Disney? Just the face, or facial expressions or the way they hold themselves? I noticed in the old footage of him. It could just be me haha

My favorite Mickey Mouse has got to be the one in I believe 19 99 when I first went to Disney World with my parents at Age 3 and I got to see Mickey Mouse and take a picture with him. Also at my house we have the Spirit of Mickey VHS, which is a collection of Mickey Mouse throughout the ages and it even has the "Steamboat Willie" cartoon from 1928.
Lucky you remember that. O.O I didn't get to go for my first time until I was 9 in 2001 and ever since, I've always been telling people you probably shouldn't take kids till they're like five... only because I actually got lucky enough to have a best friend from California who had been brought to Disneyland when she was three and she remembered nothing. But I still count it as lucky because for most of my life, she's always been not only the one friend of mine who has been to a Disney park at all but also because she's always been like a sister to me and not everyone gets to make a friend that really feels like family.
I went to Disneyland when I was 12 through Make A Wish, I was so happy to get a picture with Mickey that I cried!
When I was a kid, the Magic Kingdom had a theater on Main Street showing classic Mickey cartoons. I remember watching Steamboat Willie there back in the ‘70s
As a kid, I personally loved him in House of Mouse and of course the classic cartoon shorts. But now as a grown up person, the really best memory of him is from watching Fantasia, which is still my number one favourite Disney movie of all time!

My FAVORITE Mickey Mouse memory is when I was six years old and went to Walt Disney World. Mickey, Minnie and I walked through the topiary gardens. Mickey held my right hand and Minnie held my left hand.
I also remember My Mummy letting me stay home from school so we could watch the premier of The New Mickey Mouse Club.

So I havent been to a Disney park since I was 13 and I'm 27 now. I love anything Mickey but you mentioning the Mickey Mouse Club reminded me of when I was around I think 6 at my babysitter's house. It was an overnight night and at that time I needed background noise to sleep so I remember her leaving the Disney Channel on and I woke up super early in the morning (like 2am maybe?) but the original Mickey Mouse Club was on and I was so hooked. I didnt go to sleep until the episodes stopped showing. I'll never forget it. I think my favorite Mickey in anything is his role in Kingdom Hearts. That game played a huge role in my life

I think my most memorable Mickey moment was getting to meet him for the first time at Disney World. I was almost 18 years old, but I felt like a little kid meeting their hero. I'm a Disneyland Paris child, and there is literally no better feeling than walking down for breakfast at the Newport Bay hotel and seeing Mickey ready for meet and greets. Even at 20 years old, when I've seen that sight so many times, it still makes me so happy it almost brings a tear to my eye.

I know I'm a touch late to the party, but I was thinking about this. My probably favorite Mickey memory was the year of my sixth birthday. My parents took me to Disney World in the summer, and on my birthday I had a "joint" party for my 6th and Mickey's 60th, since my birthday is also November 18th. It had a Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey theme. That sort of instilled a lifelong love of Disney and Mickey that holds true to this day. I'm even planning to go to the park next year so I'll be in the Magic Kingdom on our birthday!

Disney litterally kept me sane when things got bad in my family, that's all I can say. As for my favourite Mickey Short, I'd say it's a tie between The Sorcerer's Apprentice and The Prince and the Pauper. In both shorts, the colours and shading of the character are fantastic, and both stories are compelling (Especially (in the Sorcerer's Apprentice) when Mickey dreams of making the star dance around him and making the sea stormy with the flick of a wrist and (In The Prince and the Pauper) when Mickey (posing for the Prince) visits the King in his dying hour and promises to rule over the kingdom with fairness and kindness. That one particular scene is shot divinely. And, it's by far, the most serious and dark Mickey scene I've ever seen, so unlike what Mickey usually do, but oh so beautifully shot...
As a child, when I went to Disney world we saw Fantasmic. I don’t remember much of Disney, but I do remember that. It was my absolute favorite memory of Mickey, and I cherish it!

When I was a kid (I was born in 97), DVD wasn't popular yet, so we had nearly every Disney animated movie on VHS. (We still have them, and are missing maybe 2 or 3.) One of them is The Spirit of Mickey, which is how I saw Steamboat Willie and a bunch of other Mickey Mouse cartoons for the first time.

Get a Horse!, mickey returns in an animated short that included references to his older and newer works and a cameo by Oswald, the rabbit is finally back in some thing Disney relayed.

My favourite Mickey Mouse “movie” would be The Spirit of Mickey. I used to watch it on repeat as a kid. Then when I went to the parks while my grandparents checked us into our hotel they had a little area for kids to colour and there was a tv playing all the shorts from the vhs! It felt so magical to me. This Sunday I’ll be curling up with my Mickey plush and watching that same vhs from when I was a kid.
I hope that rumor is true, Anaheim’s Toontown needs some love.
I was four years old when it opened, the perfect age to enjoy everything it had to offer. My family went to Disneyland almost every summer during a period in the 90s, and Toontown was one of my favorite parts. Between 2002 and 2017, a series of circumstances led me to miss out on every trip my family took to the park.When I finally made it back there last summer, seeing what Toontown had become was like being reunited with a relative or old friend after years of drug addiction and self-harm. Not only were so many of the attractions I enjoyed as a kid gone, but everything was filthy and/or falling apart. Of course, I’d be far too big to ride most of those attractions anyway, but it saddens me that today’s kids can’t buy practical joke stuff at the Gag Factory, jump in the acorn pit at the Chip ‘n Dale Treehouse (which remains totally empty and abandoned twenty years after it closed), or ride the Jolly Trolly. People seem to like Goofy’s Playhouse, but there’s nothing like the original Bounce House. I could excuse all of these closings if what was left wasn’t so filthy, but I guess there’s little incentive to clean it up when the area hasn’t received anything new in so long that would increase traffic. A new ride themed around Mickey could be just what it needs.

Not "favorite" necessarily - My biggest experience with Mickey was more along the lines of the costumed horrors you mentioned. Early 70s in Disney World I met a Mickey actor at maybe age 5.. saw up into his head and realized there was PERSON in there. Totally traumatized. Disillusioned, the rest of the park suddenly seemed a sham. I must have gotten over it, but to this day I remember the shock when the bubble of illusion burst.
It's a good thing I still have heroes like Santa, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy or I would simply lose it.

Tsubahi good point. Thanks for that. I've got a grown kid and have been through the loss of innocence that eventually comes. I've said basically the same. No matter what your friends do or say about Santa (etc..) You get to choose to believe and as long as you do, you get to have that in your world. I chose to belive.. so my world still has that bit of innocence. I think that has always been Disney's vision.

They used to have Mickey Mouse clubhouse at Disneyland in the Opera House. You could go and for 3 0r 4 bucks you joined the club, got a hat and an official membership card. I will always remember that and I wish I still had that stuff! Happy Birthday Micky!

My first trip to DW, '96, my fam and i were in line to something in toontown. We thought it was a show about Mickey. Turns out, we were in line to MEET MICKEY! It was great being 11 and meeting the head cheese.
My childhood cartoons and merchandise is most Disney, but Mickey (And Minnie) are ICONIC AS AFF and even went as far to ask my dad to draw a proper Mickey for us because we usually like to make our Mickeys in squares... Yea. I can’t control my round structures at 4-5 years old!
I have yet to visit a Meet and Greet of that talking Mickey at the Disneyland parks...!!!

Growing up I never had anyone inspiring who shared my birthday, no president, historic icon, humanitarian, or celebrated artist. It wasn’t until my 13th birthday that I learned I was born on my idol’s birthday when Mickey Mouse turned 50. Two Things - My favorite Mickey experience is one time when I was watching the Soundsational parade with my younger cousin. It got to the part that primarily centered around Donald.
