    These videos saved me! I used to sing with mixture in my 20s and then got out of pop and into opera and musicals as a lyric baritone. Fast fwd 20 years I remembered enough mixture (+ a carefully selected audition song) to get cast as Dan in 'Next to Normal', but NOT enough to get through the 1st few rehearsals without feeling overwhelmed and strained. Mixed voice helped those high As come out to play :-) You ROCK, Sophie!

    Hi Sophie this was really helpful as I finally found and accessed my high mix with ease. However, I'm finding it harder to sing with power on the lower parts of the mix, particularly around middle C-E4. Whereas notes higher I can belt. Do I apply the same concept/resonance in these lower notes?

    Love your tips Sophia. I also do the EE siren and find it extremely helpful. When you went to the "haw", it is the pharyngeal, which is the mix.
    But how do you get the correct placement every time? You see the problem with the SLS method is that it makes singers think too much as to whether they are in head, mix or chest and when one is singing, one cannot afford to do that. Do you use the EE siren sensation before singing a song or the "Haw"? Some teachers advocate placing a pencil in the mouth and singing the EE vowel above it. What do you think of that approach? Thanks!

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  10 років тому

      Hi mquek7! I'm not sure what you mean by placing a pencil in the mouth, but both the EE sound and the "haw" sounds are exercises that help us access the pharyngeal voice. After we access it, we work closer and closer to application in a song. The EE siren and the "haw" are effective in this order. With practice, singers can hear and feel which voice they are in. A singer must know their voice in order to do with it what they want. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Sophie,
    Love your videos :)
    I want to be a singer and I'm struggling in a few areas. Mostly pitch and finding my mix. Does your Vocal Primer program address these issues? I'm wondering if its a comprehensive program that I can use exclusively for my practice. Also, to get the maximum benefit in the shortest amount of time, how long and how often should one practice? Thanks!

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  10 років тому +1

      GREAT questions. Yes, the Vocal Primer exists for this exact purpose. I would recommend that one vocalize all the way through it (about an hour) once every other day, or up to 5 days a week if their singing schedule requires it.

  • @fwueileen

    The only thing I'm afraid of is my voice cracking if I try to sing high on Thinking Bout You by Frank Ocean and then my voice not coming out on the part where he goes low. I'm going to try out for a talent show and I'm so scared I'm gonna lose my breath, cause I got out of choir and haven't sang in a while, but I'll probably sing some other songs to practice high notes cause I'm a soprano which is good, I probably just need some practice.

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  5 років тому

      Hi Butera. You have to learn how to connect your vocal cords by using just the inner edges of your vocal cords. Try crying like a chihuahua really high and really quiet. Make sure your Adams apple isn't hurting when you do this. If it is, you are too loud. Do it as quietly as possible without sounding breathy. I hope this helps!

    Dear Sophie. I am a 14 year old tenor who found his mix a month ago. I can mix up to D#5 but anywhere higher, my voice flips to falsetto. I know my voice can go higher. I hope to hit like F#5. I've heard bass baritones like Axl Rose blister through his registers, topping at A5 in full voice. How do they reach the note. My head voice goes up to Soprano C (C6) and i know my voice would not miraculously shape overnight but do you know what i am doing wrong so i could work on it as i kinda scream to get an E5 and it is raspy, screechy and sounds like scratching a blackboard with your nails. if you want, i can email you a sample of my singing or wailing on an Audacity clip so i hope you can leave your email.

    • @wallewaltz
      @wallewaltz 10 років тому

      because when you're younger your voice is already thin and it's more flexible. when I was 11 I could even hit whistle parts of Emotions with head voice. By time, your voice gets thicker. I think that's the reason.

    Is gliding/sliding into high notes better than directly jumping into the high notes without connection??

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  3 роки тому

      Great question! If you lose your connection by jumping into the high note, then starting with a slide will be helpful in warm up or practice. Eventually, once the connection made by sliding becomes muscle memory you'll be able to jump to the high note while connecting right where you need to!

    Hi Sophie- I can access all three areas (chest, head, pharyngeal), but I can't blend them together to make a strong mix.. I've tried your mix videos and worked at them, any other tips to strengthen the coordination of physically blending???

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  10 років тому +5

      Hi! - the strength of the mix comes with exercise. Just like an athlete cannot expect to lift a ton of weight on their first few tries, a vocalist cannot expect to have a strong mix immediately. The key is to continue working on the coordination the correct way and practice it often. Vocal lessons will also help diagnosis your specific vocal coordination. Thanks for watching!

    Is the head voice that your doing a completely different thing from falsetto or is it the same thing?

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  6 років тому +3

      Falsetto is in the same place as head voice. The only difference is that falsetto is airy because the vocal cords aren't connecting all the way. In head voice, the vocal cords are connected.

      pretty sure it can be used wherever, it's more of a technique than a specific register/solitary voice of its own really, it's a combination of registers, via resonance and or compression, you can do a head dominant chest voice (lower/mids) or chest dominant head voice (mids/highs) for example (from my understanding, not a teacher haha)
