That's a pretty decent focal length and aperture sweep. What Korean magic is this?
And, as huge as it is, one huge lens is better to carry than three slightly less huge lenses.

I have the Tamron 35-150, couldn't imagine a better lens for wedding/portraits, however for every day use I struggle with its placement. It so big/heavy and there are so many smaller/lighter options for "normal" focal ranges it's hard to justify, but if I need a tele-zoom I often want more than 150.

Hi, Thanks for the review! I'm a hobbyist/amateur and there are probably lots of problems with a lens at the "pixel peeping" level that I would never notice in practice. Do you think the issues you experienced with the original lens (and other limitations like flare and AF), are significant enough to impact a typical weekend-warrior photographer? Trying to judge the risk (vs Tamron) and how bad a "bad batch" Samyang lens really is. Thanks!

Super-handy for event work. Very happy with mine. But, it doesn't replace my brighter primes. I first cover my bases with this zoom and a 17-28, then I swap to primes for some more intimate, shallower-DoF shots. In particular, at 85mm an f1.4 prime has a full two-stop advantage. And, good as this zoom is at 35mm and f2, a 35/1.4 is useful for highlighting a single individual among a group of people. FWIW, this zoom doesn't feel particularly heavy, even for all-day use, until I swap on the primes and my cameras, even the one with the battery grip, feel super lightweight all of a sudden.

I have the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 version. I’ve had it over a year and love it. It is heavy but a bit lighter than the samyang with no lens creep. It does cost more than the samyang but I’m okay with that.
I’ll switch to an 85mm or 50mm sometimes but then start to miss the versatility for travel and shooting events
Regardless of brand, the focal length and aperture are fantastic.

I bought my Samyang 35-150 in BH for a thousand dollars, already updated to version 2, and I have nothing to complain about, the auto focus for videos and photos are excellent on my Sony a7iv. The material is not bad, It's a heavy lens, but at the same time it looks professional.

I have the rokinon version which is the same lens. Updated the firmware to 2.0 and autofocus is super fast. It’s very sharp. I will say it’s not a travel lens. The tamron 28-200 is a travel lens that’s much better for landscapes etc.

Hi Benj, thank you for the clip. Very helpful and informative indeed. I have got my copy with A7RV as well and wonder how you found out the issue with not sharp shots between 35 and 150. Was it at any particular aperture and in any particular area of the picture? Thank you for your response

Interesting, I didn't hear about the "off-ness" in the lens (Samyang or Tamron), I have the Tamron Z-mount version & it's SHARP thru-out the lens. Perhaps there was a little more QC when transitioning the lens from Sony E to Nikon Z? Or maybe I just got a "good copy" 🤷‍♀️.
Either way, I'm extremely happy with my version & this is my ultimate dream lens. I sold my 24-70/2.8 to get it & never looked back!
    Paired w/my 16-35/4** & 100-400 (+ various primes), I'm covered for just about anything 🎉
**really hoping Nikon will drop a Z 15/16-35/2.8 S lens in the future, but that's a different topic lol

  • @xxxxz4862

This lens literally replaced 4 of my lenses. My 35, 50, 85, and my 24-70. Carrying this is better than carrying three primes or 2 zooms. I use an A7R V as well and crop mode doesn't hurt at all if I need 225mm. 😊

This 35-150 presents a curious case.
As I do a lot of handheld between 28-180 but currently with 2 lenses. This could replace even my 70-200 (weight for weight 🤣) of course I want my bag as light as possible. I would still pick up the 16-28 for wider shots but…
Not sure how it compares to the Sigma image but definitely a conversation I am open for.

I've owned the tamron version for close to 2 years now and i love it so much. its definitely my workhorse for all my gigs, but for travel i like to pair it with my 16-35GM, as well as my sony rx1rii and im all set! just those 2 lenses alone cover the holy trinity and then rx1rii is for when I'm tired of carrying that behemoth.
Also, I must've been one of the lucky ones because my copy doesn't have any issues with lack of sharpness through out the focal ranges. my copy is pretty consistent all the way up to 150 where it loses just a little bit of sharpness, but even then its still very sharp!
