I did something close to this. I planted Asian pear, plum, peach, persimmon and paw paw, 6ft apart and chopped them at 4ft tall. I'd encourage anyone to try Stark Bro's. Very good trees and good customer service.
New to gardening. Didn’t know planting fruit trees this way was a thing. It sounds genius. Where can I see the result of using this method to keep the trees smaller and baring fruit? It sounds so ideal! Great video!
Orchard looking great! Backyard orchard culture is the way! You’ll need another jujube for cross pollination, btw. I’m growing a few and will add Honey Jar next year.
the only thing I would add, for fruit trees, is, often they are grafted onto a different fruit root. So, when you plant, make sure the graft point is above ground, that way, no worry that the tree will be TWO different fruit varieties in one tree!
Yes, I mentioned in the video how this tree being potted offers an advantage since it shows you exactly where the soil height needs to be in order to keep that graft point from being covered 👍
@@thecottagepeach I watched it twice!!! HOW did I miss it? I am planting a couple fo apple trees, and only live a few towns away, so, I really wanted to follow your process! Maybe the thrid time will sink in? LOL
I have bought from them for about 3 years now and only had 3 plants fail in the middle of summer. They have great plants well over 90% of the time and I live in a semi arid environment with temperature swings
I love the mini orchard design ✊🏾 I have so many questions. Are strictly using dwarf or semi-dwarf trees? How long until the trees bare fruit? Are you using any fertilizer throughout the year?
It’s a mix of dwarf and semi dwarf rootstock yes, but keeping in mind even with dwarf rootstock best case scenario that keeps the tree about 50% smaller than standard rootstock which is still pretty big! So that’s why the pruning and close spacing is also key. I haven’t fertilized because I want the tree to adapt to the native soil but that’s just personal choice because I need the orchard to be super low maintenance, nothing wrong with adding fertilizer to your routine 🌱
Thanks for sharing... loved the tour and giving some ideas 💡 SN: Hearing you say "Stark Bros" instead of "Stark brothers" keeps tripping me up 😂 I think it's the millennial me 😅

Perfect! Glad to hear you’ve had similarly positive experiences with Stark as well.

Epic gardening has a more established orchard than mine using this method you should check out!
I’d love to add a jujube, Asian pear and some plums. Just got my brain wrapped around pruning so I’m ready to go!
Sounds like a plan!

Thanks! Neglected to mention there is a second jujube in another section of the yard 👍
@@thecottagepeach nice! Ive gotten a good crop this year. Love my jujubes 😂
Can always gift your neighbors pollinators
