Where I live, our fire dept will rescue dogs that go onto the ice - even if they haven't fallen through yet. Just to prevent their owners from going out after them.
As a guy who loves animals more than people, KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH AROUND FROZEN WATER...😢I don't care if a moronic human drowns,but,AT LEAST KEEP THE DOG ALIVE
There are not enough gated dog parks without pebbles on the ground and large enough for dogs to run and roam. A human can walk only so much and run slow vs. dogs... Please advocate for more enclosed large space, more fun, dog parks with natural ground (not pebbles)
Why you would ever let your dogs run on ice that clearly is not frozen entirely through is beyond me. She was very close to the edge of where the water started and the ice ended.
@@ElenaShares dog parks can be hazardous.. i never advocate for them... walk your dogs on leash.. that's enough.. exercising them daily for an hour especially if they are older dogs means they have less chance to injure themselves tearing around a dog park and possibly fighting with other dogs
Except you could fall through the ice with your leashed dog who might go in with you. Do you think you might let go or are you sure you would hang on? Not questioning whether dogs should be on leashes, just questioning your logic that seems to imply the dog would be safer if on a leash in this situation. I see a safe dog that was not on a leash. Alright dog trainer. I walk my dog down city streets without a leash. Its called training your dog. If you properly train the dog you could take it anywhere off a leash
Remember that these firemen train for times like these , yes it's shame things like these happens whether the yappy little dog went in first and lady could not get him back them decided to rescue him clearly other dog was willing to stay with her and not drown either.. this maybe only a dog next time the firemen will use knowledge gained that maybe of help rescuing child or others .. its always good to keep dogs on lead when out in weather like this .. ... wish them well great job to rescue teams .. thank goodness it was a child ..
@@carolbunnell3995 clearly you have never been in that type of situation , no matter if it's dog child , you might be walking along canal or river bank yourself and you loose your footing , or your scarf or hat falls into the canal you would not just think oh OK just leave it there , no you would try to retrieve it , then end up in water your self . Get shock of cold water sends you into panic . Your clothes start to get wet heavy , then you can't feel bottom of lake more panic it's not about hat or scarf any more it's you now fighting to save your life get out of water and in terror fear of it all you panic more and start to get so cold your not in control your drowning , you are struggling body is ceasing up and panic fear take over .. what might looked like simple task just reach out try grab dog or OK ice thick I can crawl over there .. yet by time you get to him he is frozen panic you can catch him you are now frozen wet and you body it closing down , now the fact is your in danger hence both of you are about to die from exposure of cold ❄ it all happens so fast that that one I can grab that dog I can't let my dog die to both nearly loosing your lives .. you cannot say there foolish , but we all make mistakes we act on spur of moment ..... .. hence trained fire fighters go through scenarios like this to save lives to learn ways to help others .. .. each rescue is learning .. each cat saved from high on tree is skill on placing ladders ropes to get to cat , is in training for being able to scale tree building to rescue a person from lift shift or a burning building its team work .. just that there has to be person needing to be rescued , in the plan of things for rescuers it's a plan of action to save life using knowledge training they learn .... to help others .. this one was success
As an Animal Control Officer for over 20 years. ALL agencies that do land or water or ice rescue of animals. MUST have a Katch-All Poles. 60” minimum and a telescoping one to 10’. This is the BEST tool for rescue and animal control. 👍👍

You know, the lady could have taken her dogs for a walk in another place away from the lake or pond OR had them on a leash. I had a dog for 6 years (adopted a senior dog) and never ever took her for a walk without a leash.
That's the problem with the last 4 generations - we should bring back "shame" - these people never think because no one will hold them accountable - relieves them from any responsibility- this woman should be made to face shame if those dogs were unleashed

I am sure if there was a leash, somehow dogs do pull away especially if wearing gloves. One special focus of a dog and off they go without the owner knowing what they saw! It's mind boggling. NO one plans for this kind of event, but if a pet gets loose the owner goes after to save it! Seen it even with gators in Florida! No matter what, the owners go after their beloved pets! If anyone can Build/Make/Create the following: take the shape of a metal Parallel ladder add side by side until you have a full square ( pending the length ), with collapsing joints = a Framework that you slide in the ice to Spread weight distribution so the ice is less likely to break, 🤓💡 And thank you for your service rescuers, 🇺🇸🥳
Very good rescue, where time is if the essence. It looks like that ice has lost its strength due to temps just above freezing. I broke through the ice in similar condition, on Walden Pond, while ice skating. I self rescued. I heard the ice start to crack, then one skate broke through. I had enough momentum to land halfway on the solid ice, so I kept my legs straight and kicked them, as if I was swimming. I clawed my way forward and didn't get back on my skates until I was 10-15 feet away from the hole I had made. If the temperature is above freezing, stay off the ice.
Even when trained something can happen to scare them where they run off and get lost, stolen, or injured. Should always be on a leash when outside of a secured fenced in yard or inside a home.

1:45 - Pay attention - he said actual blankets are better than foil blankets. This is extremely important. People think a foil blanket warms people... It doesn't. The foil blanket helps retain heat, but it does not warm someone (or some-pup) who is already cold enough to be heading into hypothermia. For that you want a heavy natural blanket

Dogs that aren't trained enough or listen and follow commands to be off leash, should never be off leash. Irresponsible pet owners all the time.
