Shield of Saphery and fury, only lasts on your own turn. I have seen many games on the Internet where the High Elf player is keeping the shield on during the opponents turn when they can’t

depends on who goes first because it is for turn 1 not your own turn

@InfernoSK no, turn is not the same thing as round. Turn is literally your turn, as the active player. Each player has a turn during each round. Some spells only last for the end of the turn which is half as long as normal

I really like High Magic on a level 4 Archmage with Silvery Wand. Usually I switch Tempest for Vaul's Unmaking or Courage of Aenarion. Ethereal Swordmasters with Fury of Khaine are wondrous to behold.

I feel Drain Magic needs to be "until start of next turn sub-phase" to be of any real use (or, at least something you could really rely on)

Disagree on Drain Magic. Looked great on paper, but didn't have much impact. Most armies only have 1 wizard, and it's common for them to be out of the 24" range of each other for Drain Magic to work. If you are within 24", then a 9+ to dispel isn't that tough for a lvl 4 wizard, just dispel it at the start of your turn. It's the exact same thing for phantasmagoria. Everyone was saying how good it was, until you realise that these spells frequently just gets dispelled the start of the next turn before they get to do anything.

Exactly! So you can't cast this spell outside of dispel range because otherwise it does nothing, you need to beat the roll off to get it in the first place and then pray to God that the opponent fails to roll a 5 on 2d to dispel it on their turn before they have to cast anything at all.

It also messes with your dispel rolls - any spell that does go through is harder to dispel. (Or put another way some of the ones it stops would have been ones you dispelled anyway)

Great review, with the silver wand for 15 points on a level 4 you can pretty much guarantee what you need.
    Walk between worlds.
    Fiery convocation
    Fury of Aenerion
    And corporeal unmaking
    Drain magic
Plus if you’ve got the points ruby ring for some extra shenanigans

Hey :) You can use Walk btw worlds on a fast cav with the mage and move in without marching to 18 inches from the enemy, cast fiery convocation and shoot and then move 4,5 inch back out of charge range, also be ethereal :P

Legends! Love this concept. Just some constructive feedback I think you're summarising the spell a lot, talking about the spells "use" a lot, but rating/comparing it only a little. For example you talk about how great "tempest" is for controlling movement. Okay but it's probably the worst of these types of spells, with Illusion having what's considered the best (and necromancy having what I think is the best). Another example is drain magic - it sounded like it crushed a level 2 wizard in a past game. It'll do that. But in a 4v4 game not so much. Because the caster gets *two* chances to dispel before it does anything, and the second time they just need to roll a 5 on two dice. Most of the signature spells are garbage and this one at least has uses, but I really think it's in C tier. PS. I did not realise "self" spells could always be cast whilst in combat, I even checked the rules after you said that. Thanks!!

After we have finished the series, we are going to rank all the lores and compare them. I've played 3-4 more games since recording this and agree about drain magic. With a level 4, it's no way near as effective unfortunately.

@@NineInchCharge great idea! Comparing will be interesting, most lores follow the same theme with a vortex spell, conveyance etc. will be interesting to see how to do it. I've been comparing them myself, admittedly from a pure lizardmen perspective :-)
