Videos like this one are so useful, showing that you can still go on to do amazing things even with lower grades than you hoped for. Sometimes you just need a university to take a chance on you. Y12 and Y13s have had so much to deal with this year. Hopefully exam boards and universities will be understanding next year.
I can relate so much with your oxford journey!! I got DBB in a levels (Music, Lit, philosophy) because I could never afford music lessons, so I was years behind the average person my age. My music grade affected my other subjects and I failed in all aspects of music. It's a very classist subject in a way. In the end I DID get into a conservatoire, with a foundation year (which I am doing right now) + my gap year (I taught myself theory etc). People from our backgrounds have to squeeze into elite spaces however we can, but at least we can (kind of)! It's definitely hard being the only poor person around (and immigrant), but someone has to do it !
Thank you for this Vee - I am currently in Year 11, and GCSEs have begun.. I have great aspirations, and you have just helped me drive this further. You always radiate such vibrant, beautiful and PURE energy, that you are an absolute role model. For me, for our younger generations. Thank you for all this.
I'm just here because im interested, I just want to go to Aberystwyth not Oxford but I had to pause the video and write this comment after you mentioned that your B's were beautiful, and then C's. I got CCC and I've never been told to be proud of that really and it actually means so much to me to be told that its beautiful
Watching from Papua New Guinea ...I'm a new subscriber and Vee you are an amazing girl. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and inspiring all of us from developing countries t, various socio-economic backgrounds, races, gender etc. Everything I have ever felt was holding me back from achieving the kind of future I only dream about; I forgot when I watched this video. I plan to binge-watch all your other videos. Best wishes for Harvard and congratulations on graduating from Oxford. We are all cheering for you to continue to do amazing at Harvard too!!!
the grades make sure that they don’t reject you immediately, but if you didn’t have anything else besides the grades then they would definitely reject you.
It's actually more holistic than this. Grades and scores obviously matter, but also your experience, writing samples, LORs, SOP and whatever else is asked during admission.
Vee saying that spending $32 to take a test is expensive. :') SAT costs $60 per time you want to take it. APs are $140 each. and prep books are good to have ($30-40 each).

I came across your page via my explore page feed and I looked at your Harvard graduation photos and I was mad inspired and happy for you♥️but I forgot to follow and I’ve been looking for your Instagram page since ..coz I couldn’t remember your handle.. On the textbook point, you can also find a lot of PDF copies of expensive academic books and articles online. There’s communities which share access to online libraries for specific books etc. There’s lots of stuff for free online!
Honestly A Levels really be stressing me out so you have literally inspired me so much especially through foundatiin years. I got 7's and 8's in my GCSE's and now I am literally working at like C's and D's and the teachers are literally telling me I can't work at any grade higher. But honestly I am trying to come to come to terms with me not succeeding honestly. Anyways hopefully I do well😌 😌
Do you have any suggestions or tips on writing personal statements? I know that the biggest thing is just to be honest - but I find it hard to even talk about myself at all.
Vee, when I entered the University of Ottawa in the mid 1990s, I had a B average too which was from 70-79% which I needed to enter that university. To enter for my MA in Classical Studies at the Open University, I needed a 2:1 average. I received a Magna Cum Laude for my BA in Classics at the University of Ottawa in Canada and I had the grade to be admitted.

7 / A = Above 70 percent
6/ B = Above 60 percent
5/ C = Above 50 percent
4/ D = Above 40 to 45 percent
