I honestly cannot tell you how refreshing it is hearing someone who is proud of getting a 2:1 and who is normalising living life with balance. This video and your attitude have completely changed my view on my grades and I literally cannot thank you enough. I'm a mature student going into my final year of a psych degree. I left school at 14 with no gcses and went back into education aged 25. I got an A in English and failed my maths twice. I managed to complete a functional skills in maths and start an access course where I finished 16 assingments with distinction and 3 with merits. I finished my 1st and second years with high 2:1 and even though I recieved a lot of individual 1st class grades, I've sat and thought to myself I'm not good enough one because of my own insecurity but two, because so many study tubers act as if a 2:1 is the end of the world. You are so refreshing and an absolute inspiration. Thank you for being real 💜
Hi Vee: Great advice all around. As an American, living in Britain, who has gone through the graduate system in America, there are just a few things I would like to add for your audience. 1. The GRE is NOT specific to Harvard. The GRE is taken by ALL applicants for graduate studies in the USA with a few exceptions. For Law you don’t take the GRE but, instead, the LSAT. For Medicine, which is a Post graduate program in America, you don’t take the GRE but the MCAT. There are some other exceptions for specific degrees as well such as some Engineering degrees (which you need to have a super strong background in Maths to get into) and the Visual and Performing Arts, but, in general, to attend graduate school in America you MUST take the GRE or else have a pronounced career background in the field you wish to study such as if you are Steven Spielberg and decide to do a doctorate in Film Production. Then they would waive the GRE for you. 2. The GRE may be used for Masters AND Doctoral programs alike. Unlike in England, you may move from an undergraduate degree to a Doctoral degree in your field. Often a Masters is taken up if switching fields or if it is the most common terminal degree for that field. Case in point: An applicant to Medicine has no need to do a Masters degree first. They apply from undergraduate to Medicine directly and, if they successfully complete the degree and licensing exam (called the Boards) they are conferred the degree of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) both are professional doctors. Same with Law. For instance, you might do an undergraduate degree in English and apply to Law School immediately afterwards. If you get into a program and complete it successfully and pass the Law exam (called The Bar) then you are conferred the title Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) which is a professional lawyer. I have a friend who did exactly this and graduated from Harvard with her J.D. and finished Magna Cum Laud which is the highest academic standing you may earn. On the other hand, lots of Engineering degrees terminate at the Masters and there is no need to go further. So - research, research, research, research and REALLY know what level you want/need to apply to before applying. 3. If a foreign national wishes to apply for an undergraduate degree instead (B.S./B.A. etc) most universities DO NOT require the SAT if their secondary qualifications are A Levels or IB (International Baccalaureate). Again, research, research, research the program of interest as MANY do not require it if you have these qualifications though they do expect extraordinarily high result grades. Typically A*A*A* or 37 points or higher IB. 4. In regards to scholarships. RESEARCH AT LEAST A YEAR BEFORE! There are over 1,000,000 scholarship programs in America for all levels of education, all walks of life, all different subjects and NOT just through the university of choice but from many, many different outside sources. The MAIN restriction being if that scholarship is open to; International Students or only domestic (50 US states and Puerto Rico) and if you meet the criteria for that scholarship otherwise (such as socioeconomic, minority, specific region status etc). RESEARCH A YEAR IN ADVANCE, write to the organisation offering the scholarship to know EXACTLY what type of applicant they are looking for and DON’T MISS DEADLINES!! Scholarships are the #1 means students in America reduce their costs upfront. It can mean something called A Scholarship or called A Grant. NEITHER are paid back! Loans, on the other hand, are paid back in full and accrue interest from the moment they are issued. Just because one is an International Student does not mean one cannot get financial help. International Student rates are TRIPLE domestic student ones so DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! 5. YES! The Personal Statement in America is VERY DIFFERENT to that in the UK. It DOES need to be a story (not literal but it must flow) covering not just your passion for your subject but ANY AND ALL RELEVANT experience (volunteer, having taken part, research, having seen something first hand that impacted your desire for the subject etc). However, like in the UK, DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING IRRELEVANT to the subject you are pursuing. For instance if you know the university is well renowned for basketball (Duke University in Durham, North Carolina) then DON’T say: I really like to play basketball. ONLY include basketball if it has been a passion you have pursued for years and you have been a regional or National or International star in it and you want to study something sports related even if what you want to do is Sports Science. Universities are inundated with personal statements that day things like: Ever since I was a baby or Einstein says, “yadda yadda yadda.” That will get you NO WHERE FAST! Make your personal statement about your passion, you interest and, most relevantly your experience in your field. NOT your life story, NOT some exaggeration of facts (they can read right through that), NOT some impassioned speech about how you have ALWAYS been fascinated with the stars since you were a little boy if what you want to study is Astrophysics. Make it personal, make it flow, make it make sense and MAKE IT RELEVANT. 6. If you get into a program even at graduate level and you find it is not the right program for you, you are entitled to change your mind, ESPECIALLY if you simply want to switch to a different program within the same Department. For instance, I know people who went for Masters in Electrical Engineering but then realised they were far more captivated by Robotics instead. Or, if you, Vee, had decided you wanted to switch from International Educational Policy to Minority Education within the US only, that would have been fine. You ARE allowed to switch. Departments don’t like it but they WON’T make you start again as MANY courses cross over disciplines. Just DON’T apply to a program you KNOW you don’t really like at all - for instance I switched from wanting to pursue medicine to wanting to pursue Clinical Psychology instead because I KNEW I was not the right fit for medical school. Once in my program I then specialised even further and narrowed down to Clinical Child Psychology instead of General Psychology. These things are possible in the American system. Just TRIPLE check your Student Visa will remain in tact. 7. You CANNOT legally work if you are on a Student Visa in the states with the exception of some on campus job, so be prepared to have enough funds to cover your books, supplies, housing, food and entertainment as well. You MAY choose to look into American programs that you may do from your home country, like Vee did, in which case you may also work. There are MANY MANY MANY universities in America now that do WHOLE degrees via the net so do look into them. MIT is one, Harvard is one, and MOST of the Ivy League do as well. Plus you have degree programs offered through the likes of Google University, EdX, and Coursera as well from various universities around the world. For instance my oldest child took up degree work in Computer Science using EdX through Harvard and MIT Opencourseware. Do look around and KNOW your options!! That is about all the additional advice I would give. Know your deadlines! DEFINITELY have excellent references The MORE relevant experience the better even something as simple as “I took part in a one week unpaid experience” counts. DEFINITELY mention awards but ONLY if they are relevant to your subject. KNOW which level of degree you want/need and what the typical terminal degree for that field tends to be to start on a career path. Good Luck!!
Wow I can absolutely relate to your whole life story Vee 100% born and raised in Zimbabewe as well and in the UK currently planning on studying at Harvard oh my days what were the odds of my UA-cam feed showing your videos and me clicking on this particular one super helpful thank you✨❤️🙏🏽
Vee, what you are saying is absolutely correct that writing a good personal statement would easily help students enter into a Master's degree in many universities.
Vee, what a video. Absolutely remarkable to see how far you’ve gone and what you’ve attained through adversity and perseverance. Much respect to you and for this video. Thanks for sharing your journey and empowering us to pursue our dreams. God bless you and your family!!!
Me with ADHD watching this and by minute 4 realising that this will never be possible for me XD Back to remembering that even graduating from under grad is hard enough with this unicycle brain. Well done Vee!
You're not alone! You can do it cause MANY did. Please look it up, I hope it gives you hope. If you did not, at the end of the day, you'll see all the doors that opened for you, that wouldn't have been opened if you went in. Life is full of changes and chances. Please prioritise your mental health no matter what happened!
Vee you have honestly been such an inspiration for me and I’ve been looking forward to starting my own yt-channel as well. Love your videos and thank you so much for being such an inspiration, a motivation and a role model 🤍
Amazing Vee! Would love a video where you read your personal statement. I showed the video to my daughters to be inspired and let them know they can achieve anything not matter the background! Please tell us all about the volunteering work you did too. You are a great inspiration ❤️
Starting my masters this coming week as a result of your online masters degree decision making videos.Im doing an MSc in Disaster management and resilience . Thank you Vee and reach out to me if you want a real Life demonstration of the impact you are having on the lives of your followers. God bless you.
Perhaps you could go into some more depth about how you funded your Harvard degree and whether you think it is a viable prospect for individuals who do not have the same resources as you.
Vee, you're amazing! I'm so so so inspired by you, super grateful that I got to know you and this channel. I literally learn so much from you. Sending lots of love and prayers your way❤

Such a queen, she gets into Harvard and now she's helping her followers do it too! Also the awesomeness, Oxford AND Harvard! I wanna be like Vee 🥺
How not go get into Harvard:
Me out here procrastinating the hell out of doing my 10 hour study session
She went from working at McDonald's 🍟 to going to Oxford AND Harvard! Queen 👑👸🏾
As someone who reads personal statements, everything Vee says here is gold. Listen to her, folks!
Can we talk about how you are glowing!!!! Absolutely beautiful intelligent women!
