    I found the 2k cameras to have more saturated colors compared to the 4k cameras, and much better performance at night. So, the 4k cameras are probably fine for use in areas that are always brightly lit, but I think I'd go with the 2k cameras everywhere else.

    The issue is eufy limit their bitrate of the cameras. 500k/b for 4k is equivalent to 480p. If eufy is serious about clarity, they would up the bitrate to 2mb-4mb.
    Unfortunate really.
    I understand why they do that though, to appeal to the mass/compatibility

      glad someone mentioned this. They (eufy) and basically all manufacturers targeting mass consumers are throwing out 4K for marketing. They did this even with 1080P, but the bitrate was so low the footage was crap. Basically upscaling a 480p to 1080 or 4K resolution. Also the crappy frames per second. I find it hard to believe we aren't there yet in technology. They got Raspberry Pi performing more complicated tasks out there and cell phone batteries lasting days, once someone can do higher bitrate 30fps even just at 1080-2K with built in solar, then it might give POE cams a run for its money. Until then, its a nice solution with these but far from the optimal one

    Hello LifeHackster, Thanks for another great video. I'm looking forward to your review of the pending (as of 8/20/23) Eufy "Professional" cams. Since you have a direct connection to these camera companies thought I'd ask if you could pass a suggestion on to them. I'm an audio engineer and this has to do with wind noise. As you can hear on one of your videos when the wind hits the mic in the camera it makes a very loud and annoying Low-frequency RUMBLE sound. This also happen on the professional mics we us when recording outside. This noise can substantially and easily be reduced in the recording but just filtering out all frequencies from about 100Hz and down. It would very simple for these camera companies to add this filter as now-a-days it is just a simple software algorithm. Thanks again for all you do.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  Рік тому

      Thanks for the suggestion. I'll pass them along. My backyard is a test bed for audio for these cameras because 360 days a year, it is windy :) I know the Ring floodlight cam pro has good noise cancellation.

      @Martin-cb4fh 11 місяців тому +1

      @LifeHackster Great, thanks, Keep in mind Noise Cancelation is a little different than what I'm suggesting. Essentially removing all frequencies below 100Hz will significantly reduce that harsh RUMBLE of wind. You can think of it turning down the bass on your stereo. Also, can you say if and when you will review the new Eufy (Professional) line that does 24/7 recording?

    Hey there! Your videos are seriously the most awesome review videos I've ever come across. I really hope those companies are treating you well, because the dedication you pour into making these videos is simply mind-blowing! I've watched a bunch of your videos and I'm still scratching my head over which camera to go for. I'm on the hunt for three cameras, all with 360 capabilities, and I'm all about that top-notch video quality. Zoom isn't a big deal for me, and I'm not really into all the fancy AI detection stuff either. Just gimme the best video quality there is, along with pan/tilt, wired and solid night video performance. Budget-wise, I'm flexible - whether it's $200 or $300, I'm cool with it. I want to be able to use it with Alexa so can do some voice commands and see those cameras.
    Can you be my guiding light in this camera quest? Thanks a million! 📷🌟

    The built in solar panel is cool but limits you to exposing the camera past a overhang. I personally like the Reolink duo2 2k 180deg camera and mounted the solar panel on top of it. I now have a shaded and sleek camera setup. 2 of them on the rooftop covers 360 FOV

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  Рік тому +1

      @@LifeHackster my only concern with the duo is the night filter had got stuck on one lens which caused a pink half image when going from night to day. Luckily I am with a 30 day return policy and got a new one. I know this issue has been an issue on other brand cameras as well, have you encountered this with your vast collection of cameras?
      Hopefully a 360 camera comes out, 30fps, quality zoom, reduced WiFi loading lag, good night vision distance and higher MP. One camera roof mounted would cover the entire house, I currently do this with 2 duo cameras on my roof mounted cooler unit.

      I’ve got a C210 here, and will either run USB C power or an external panel.
      Any idea if I can charge the S230 that way too? I want the spotlight, but there’s no way I’ll get enough sun throughout the year, I’ve got mixed sun at best and it’s very different seasonally.

    • @ProjectAnubisUSA
      @ProjectAnubisUSA 3 місяці тому

      @@thedave1771 according to the website it says you only need 2hrs of direct sunlight. The solar panel collects 600-800 mAh per day and uses 150-202 mAh day and night average usage.
      Unsure about charging it with a battery pack / cable since I decided to stay with the Reolink cameras I have and have no experience with these after the security issue chatter from this brand. I suppose if you don’t get an answer, you can always buy one and see what battery pack works, might require a PD capable one if a regular pack doesn’t work. In the summer, the solar versions can overheat and break down. I had 2 S40's break down on me and a Eufy solar panel as well. Watch the white plastic next to the lens where the lights are housed. When you see yellow/brown-ish lines behind the glas . . . the camera is breaking down/leaking/overheating. Eufy solar units are far from "outside" proof. Don't know about the regular camera's though.

    The low bitrate of these always bugged me with my Eufy 2k indoor cams. Once I switched to the Unifi 2k cameras I was really impressed at the quality of the recordings and it wasn't just the 30fps footage... it just looked much cleaner despite also being 2k...and looking at a video file I just now pulled of night time IR footage of one of my G4 Instant cams, the bitrate is 6688 kbps @ 2688x1512 resolution.
    The Eufy sensors are capable of a higher bitrate so if storage is local, why limit them?

  • @thedave1771

    On the topic of the effective bitrate (aka file sizes) keep in mind that video compression is a combination of still image compression (difference between regions of the picture vs neighbours) and also frame-by-frame.
    In low light there’s a lot less detail being captured, so it’s expected the bitrate will be lower.
    An image of a grey wall isn’t identical but it’s all close, so it’ll be smaller than a vibrant detailed image, even if the smallest detail you can resolve is the same).
    Similarly a video of a nearly still scene will be smaller than a dynamic moving video.
    And there’s just a lot more data to work with with brighter light too, a lot more potential shades/colours.

    POE is the best, better quality and jam proof, you can see all cameras on your TV display at once. With the reolink doorbell using ethernet you are jam proof if using a PC connected to Ethernet. Now we just need an alarm system that is jam proof fully wired.

      POE does give you higher quality and the option for 24x7 recording, but POE isn't an option for me in most of the places where I want an outdoor camera. I really enjoyed your informative video, but I have a question. Is it not the case that unless the video is watched using a 4k quality setting, then the viewer would not be able to discern the difference between the video captured on the 4k and that captured on the 2k camera - and then only if the screen is large enough to reveal the difference in quality. That is, regardless of screen size, there will be no difference between the two videos if watched on 2k, or 720p, etc, etc? I may be wrong, but if not, perhaps viewers could be warned about that. Thanks for the video.

    I have to say, I've tried several cameras from different vendors (Eufy, Reolink, Lorex, Tapo, several brands of 4k dash cams, etc.) and ALL of these so-called "4k cameras" overpromise and underdeliver. Often the difference between 2k and 4k in practical terms is negligible, as shown in this video.
    Maybe in 20 years when we have "16k cameras" on the market, we will finally be able to digi-zoom in and read a friggin license plate clearly from 60 feet away in the daytime, or at all at nighttime. Correcting the severe motion blur at night from all these camera products would also be a nice bonus, lol... 😐

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  Рік тому +1

      It is actually not the resolution... it is the field of view and shutter speed that goes hand in hand if you want a camera that can reliably read plates. This is what the LPR cameras do but..this is the only thing they do.. zoomed in to the area and fast shutter speed resulting in very dark image but it is able to read plates even at night and with no glare.

    • @SevenSixTwo2012
      @SevenSixTwo2012 Рік тому +1

      @@LifeHackster Thanks for the clarification. I'm not a tech guy when it comes to cameras, but I do like to compare end results - hence why I like all your videos.
      For a surveillance camera to be practical, it needs to do ALL of the necessary surveillance functions : functional (large) field of view, proper image lighting, good detail capture... and not just be good at one of the three. Hence why I say that maybe "16k" cameras will finally be able to deliver what we need, one day.
      To your point, I do have "4k" cameras with optical zoom built in, they are practically useless unless one wants to watch a small spot in front of their house, like a mail box. Surveillance is about capturing minute details and capturing it all at once, because you never know where the threat will show up. Anything less is inadequate, as in today's overhyped consumer-grade surveillance products. I'm still waiting to be "blown away" by the quality of ANY of these so-called "UHD 4k" cameras, lol! 🙃

    Hi there, I am considering between the two and wanted to ask about the spotlight? I wanted the spotlight to be on to provide safety through illuminatoom of the parking lot. The s40 seemed to have their spotlight more powerful. Is this correct?
    Also, on the Amazon page for battery of the s40, it says 3 months even though it is solar powered. Does this mean it needs to be changed it? And for the eufy cam3 if says forever powered. Does the s40 need to have a battery change despite having solarpower? For example, they anticipate battery degradation?
    Thank you in advance

    Really disappointing in clarity. Was waiting for them to move to 4k but looks like their tech is the same but just adding 4k to advertise something better when its not. Guess we have to wait for their next lineup so it can be true 4k. I will then switch.

  • @19mati67
    @19mati67 11 місяців тому

    I'm not surprised at all. Most likely they use the same size sensor, and this way the 4k one needs more light to produce a better image. The sensor size matters, which many of these Amazon brands do not advertise. Do not hunt the megapixels!!! 4k is better during the day, but horrible at night? Thieves usually do their job at night. I personally use Dahua/Empiretech/Loryta(which are all Dahua cameras) cameras 5442 series with 1:1/8 sensor size.

    come on, lets not fool ourselves here. There is no way these security cams are doing "true/real" 4k resolution. This is like when the nest iq outdoor cams were being advertised as having a "4k sensor"; the avg person would immediately think it outputs 4k on your nest app.

    • @LifeHackster
