psa for people taking adhd meds (i know this is true for ritalin/methylphenidate idk about others) you shouldn't drink alcohol while on your meds, especially extended release meds, bc the alcohol can cause the drug to get rapidly released into your system which can make you OD. tldr wait til your meds wear off to start drinking or skip your meds if you know you're going to be drinking before they would wear off

I actually cannot touch alcohol because I suffer from chronic migraines, and alcohol is a vasodilator which makes the migraines worse. Alcohol also has a number of drug interactions with the various antidepressants I've been on over the years. I'm currently on Naltrexone, which negates the euphoric effects of alcohol since it's an anti-addiction drug, therefore there wouldn't be any point in my drinking alcohol anyway.

I have never been drunk before and have actually never had any alcohol. I am only 17 but most of my friends have seven days, at least tried alcohol and at least half of them had gotten drunk on multiple occasions. The only reason I’ve never tried alcohol so far is when I was a kid, and whenever I was offered like a sip of my parents drink I would say “does it have bobbles like soda?” (Which I didn’t like) I also never wanted to try wine after I saw that “I love Lucy” episode where they smash grapes with their feet. That deterred me up a couple years….
I’d love to see an episode on schizophrenia!

Yes, I've been drunk before. Many times. I cut myself off now that I'm older. Now I'm sober. I didn't wake up to drink. I never needed alcohol everyday. I'm not one of those people. However, on the occasion that I'd feel like drinking I'd have so much fun with it I'd keep going to fast and too long! I'd be dangerously drunk. I even found a way to get twice as drunk twice as fast! I made a hack. (You chug an Xtra energy shot before drinking beer). I was having too much fun! LoL. I learned that I get too eager to drink when I feel like drinking. I just shouldn't drink is the other lesson.

I tried drinking recently and it didn't seem to affect me at all 😅 but it definitely made me curious about alcohol and why people drink it
one thing I noticed while drunk is how fuzzy my skin felt. the numbness was calming but the hangover was the worst, definitely not worth it.
Interestingly, methanol is also why you shouldn't swallow mouthwash or rubbing alcohol, it's the wrong kind of alcohol. But, perhaps more interestingly, the reason methanol doesn't matter IN other alcohol is that your body prefers to process/absorb ethanol and will stop processing the methanol and push it through unprocessed to process the ethanol instead. This means the methanol stops getting into your blood stream as much. It is also why the cure to having drank something full of methanol is to drink a bunch of ethanol so long as it's fast enough afterwards (and then call for medical help). What methanol does, other than general damage, is also very specifically destroying your kidneys and the nerve behind your eyes. So it destroys your kidneys and makes you go blind.
For cooking, some flavour compound are soluble in alcohol even if they aren't in water, which in turn lets them disperse in water. This is why vodka sauce is a thing, it brings compounds out of the tomato and other ingredients that would normally taste flatter and a lot more mild, even though the alcohol is expected to cook off. That's why use alcohol in cooking.
The weird thing for me is that I feel more drunk having wine than whisky, WAY more, in a way that's entirely disproportionate tot he alcohol, and I think it has to do with other compounds in the wine that slow down how you, or maybe just I, process alcohol [I have mutations, plural, that affect my liver and how fast it processes certain things, really slow or really fast, it depends on the specific molecules, that could be part of it, I process alcohol very fast, and some meds, very very fast, but other things can gum it up, like bilirubin and stuff]. But I suspect it's like that for some or most people a little, which is also why they say mixing alcohol makes you more drunk, but it seems to depend on what you are mixing.
