Got quite the projects there.. The green one should be a smooth..ish resto The engine differences between ‘89 H1/‘90 H2 are different carbs, 36mm v 38mm, exhausts are different, 4:2:1 for the H1 and a 4:1 for the H2. You can fit an H1 exhaust to an H2, but it covers the differing oil filter cartridge v H1 spin off filter. The engine itself has many of the race parts fitted to the H2 over the original H1, bigger valves, wider ports, lighter pistons & rods for higher rpm… The mirrors are of course colour coded on the H2, and there’s a ZXR/ZX7R decal on the rear seat cowl of the H2. The H1 doesn’t have this decal.. I managed to find 2 complete H2 exhaust systems for my H2 last year.. the 2nd one has some scrapes on the silencer which I’m trying to wet sand and buff out as much as possible. Parts for these bikes, like you said, are getting very hard to find now. And when you do find something, it comes with a heavy ZXR tax attached 🫣 Nice purchases there all the same 👏🏼
Love this channel - all the videos are great! I get up early on a Friday just to watch the latest one before work! I see your work, and then try and level up my own restorations! Currently restoring a 1986 Kawasaki zx1000a1. Looking forward to your future videos.👍
Got a 89 about 4 years ago, cant wait until you start your resto will be watching with great interest as mine also needs a resto. Great channel keep up the great work👍
Thanks, I have a nicely restored 90 in my collection and still haven’t ridden it ! Shameful I know. I did that other 90 last year. But I think I will do the blue 89 first !
The Kawasaki ZXR was the bike that ignitied my love of sports bikes (It was the first bike that I was terrified on as a pillion). Looking forward to seeing how the restoration goes.
I'm looking forward to seeing these two classics fire up. We are so alike in respect to spending money on projects like this. The way I look at it. You have the bikes, your going to restore them. Just buy the parts now that you think or know you need. If you see what you want, buy it. The parts for these classics are getting so hard to come by. Then you have them and your not waiting when you start.
Well, if the engine in the H1 is dead a GPX750 motor should bolt straight in, but these old girls are pretty strong things and I`m sure you`ll find her in good order inside
Best of luck, I think you might need it! One of those would be enough of a challenge for me let alone two. I shall look forward to following the builds later in the year, notwithstanding that you would appear to be a Man U supporter 🙈😂👍
One of my favorite channels… I have a small collection of running and non running restoration projects. I’m curious if you would share your program for keeping multiple motorcycles fresh once finished. Do you have a start and ride schedule? Favorite battery/ trickle charge combo? Fuel additives?also, do you have any other social media pages that we can follow? Keep up the good work! Looking forward to the ZX7 H1&2 restoration
Thanks a lot, I’m not in other social media at all (yet) Most of the bikes are in a run schedule, any that I run are filled with ethanol free fuel and Stabil fuel additive, all are on deltran battery tenders . My more recent restos are dry stored with no fuel, oiled tanks and no battery. Makes storage easier The fueled bikes all have to have fuel charges annually Maybe I should do another video on that, I do one a while back but not sure how much detail i went into
I have a JDM oe Black paint bike with blue ZXR decals rather rare. Hate green how about a red one? Look forward to watching the resto. Ps parts are hard to find but try CMS in Holland.
Thanks, yes the 90 will be red, black and silver (I already have a green 90) and the 89 will be green. CMS is great, I shop there when they have what I need, unfortunately none of the hard to find bits are there.
There is a French company making the rear fenders (460 euros +shipping ) and coolant bottles (260 euros +shipping). But no one making the hugger. They also make the upper cowl infill panels Too bad they’re so expensive initial setup for scanning a hugger would be pricey I would think. Maybe in future it will become more affordable and more common for the average person with a 3D printer
@@true-moto-resto I love them all. And the best summer I ever had was a few back when I bought a pair. One for me, and one for my buddy. A buddy bike. Pick whichever color ya want. And we rode without any worries.
You could yes. Problem is the cost to get one scanned is crazy $. Then you need one from someone willing to loan it for scanning . There is a company in France selling rear fenders (not the hugger) and they’re 460 euros + shipping . So a one off scan and print for a hugger would be big $. But not impossible. I’m contemplating making one from fiberglass or Abs plastic. We will see
I. Have a H2 ( I was told) muffler not sure of yr its missing the front stainless cap but in good condition prob b a terrible cost to ship from NewZealand
@@true-moto-resto Ya thats too bad back in the day I knew guys that used to use them for their track bike, you would have to work on the fit and finish a little but over all the product itself was good
Oh? They had anti theft on them ? I’m not sure if the key was miss matched to be honest. The gas cap cylinder lock was just seized really badly . Even with the wafers drilled out, it took a screwdriver and pliers and a lot of back and forth to get it to turn. How would I know it’s the right ignition switch? Would the switch be talking to the anti-theft ? As I’m sure they never had keys with chips back then.
@true-moto-resto The Infamous Grey Wire. Will need to order an OEM or get a resistor. That's saying the one in there is not OEM. But, that should do. 6v on that wire to the CDI or TCI.... as if I know. Anyway. I hope to get a bit of time on this one here. Best Wishes

Great info, thank you!
I had a 89 model. The 90 had new engine intervals and a different swingarm and better suspension
New projects, wonderful. Can't wait

Awesome! We can restore them in tandem and compare notes !
Both are beautiful classics. I would just use and ride the green one and start working with the blue one

Thanks Jerry ! I did a 1990 a year or so ago, and decided I wanted do some another (or two), I love these!
It looks like the 90 has the same swingarm as the zx9r B model! looking forward to watching these bikes transform.
Thanks !!
The blue bike's previous owner really tried to make the bike as horrible as possible it seems . Really feel sorry for the bike .
You are 100% correct on that one !!

Why did you pass?
I'm rebuilding a 91 ZXR H2 from the Frame up & it's taking time to find the Fairing Side Panels, good luck with your Bikes

As far as the parts go, my way of thinking is better to have and not need than to need and not have. You can always sell the parts if you want.
I agree Don, I already started collecting parts. Still looking for a rear fender

The Blue appears to have wrong ignition in the bike. The key doesn't match the tank. So, the anti theft is probably the issue.

Why would someone polish or paint a frame black 🤔
Great question !!! I’m not a fan of that either . Seems that in the 90’s. Folks did this a lot
