The British Tortoise is one of the few monstrous tanks in War Thunder. It's also probably the worst. It has a decent top reverse speed, but its obvious weakspots and lackluster cannon make it a pain to use.

You can kill the T95 with the tortoises I have done it before just aim for the hatch it may be finicky at times but it will pen
You should really play the "Turan I" at (2.3 or 2.7, I don't remember). it's APHE basically worse solid shot that has like 15g of explosive filler.

It's 2.3. 17 grams of explosives filler in the APHE and a whopping 67 grams in the HE, but it comes with a reverse speed of 43 km/h

If you used the 40mm 2pdr guns from the early British tanks, I think the Turan I will be a very familiar experience to you. Although the Solid Shot is a bit less potent. Overall, for a 2.3 it's not that bad, especially when compared to other Italian tech tree vehicles of that BR.
Tort my beloved, I cannot express my joy to see you playing this Spookston, not to mention with Odd! The editing is superb as always and hearing the two of you chat is super enjoyable. I'm well aware that playing it is more than exhausting because of the constant uptiers, especially now that the Vidar is in game and has more than enough tools to instantly kill you with a commander gun shot, so thank you for your sacrifice ^^
The vidar and other aphe can basically just click on it's front and it'll probably die. The usual spot is anywhere near the gun as it will go through the transmission cover thing I find
Please do the Zis-30 its one of the best rat tanks and has a 57mm gun at 2.3.
It is one of the rattiest tanks. Its small, fast, turns on a dime, and its APHE is just memey especially at its tier.
I absolutely lov that tank (currently at 184battles/419ground and 1 air kill) . The gun makes up for all it's weakness... Nothing feels better than vaporizing a M4 sherman(105) from the front😅😅
The SU-57 is just as good at 2.3 it's one of my favorite rat premiums

i personally prefer the LVT(A)(4) ZiS, has more speed and just looks cooler
plus isnt as "sweaty" as the ZiS-30
The tort isn't that bad, you just gotta angle the hull, which is ironic in a super heavy breakthrough tank. Also, recently (maybe due to volumetric) the commanders copula is less of a weak spot, with his head and the machine guns absorbing most of aphe shells, making it much more "viable"
Edit: 2 hours after posting this is a saw a tortoise in a full upriver go on an 8 player kill streak on cargo port. Make of that what you will
It also excels at range. I find it's damn near impossible to pen around 1km+ ranges. Downside to that style of play is you usually just get the Adamant award and a few assists lol
Funny part of tort is that it can be quite easily penned by a long 88 or similar gun at the same BR in a helluva lot of the frontal area. If the enemy has ever looked at tortoise in analysis you're almost always losing.
Yeah before volumetric it was so fucking annoying having everybody shoot your mg cupola to slowly kill you, I got in the habit of hiding the cupola behind a wall as I corner camped.
Spookston finally understands the casemate pain. He has now learned his lesson to not bully the tutels of wt
That end section with the T95 tells me that the Crabs in a Bucket mentality for Casemates and Super Heavies is very much still thriving
The character arc of spookston getting killed by CAS constantly, to him becoming some how a CAS bomb sponge, to him using enemy CAS against themselves is beautiful
I love how far the world was in tank development when this was made, but the British still decided to make pretty much a giant cube with a bunch of armour
Which - as opposed to contemporary super heavy tanks - for once had the powerplant to actually propel itself reliably.
I mean the French basically did the same thing with the ARL's. Although while not a cube, it was basically an early ww2 design in the cold war.
This tank was made for the end of ww2 to attack German fortifications. Not many were made and they weren't needed. War thanders br system mixes up the time so different era thanks end up fighting each other.
@@aiedenoldstien9751 I mean the ARL-44 was a pre-WW2 design they finished after the war. It was pretty quickly phased out though following its completion. The main reason the French even built it post-war was to try and regain their military prowess from a tank production perspective.
@@herrkroot I feel like they'd probably had been better off just buying a bunch of Sherman's. They may not be the best tanks, but they're not the worst either. They get the job done.
In light of British Super Heavies, can you play the Conqueror? It’s a 7.7 Heavy tank with 120mm APDS and a stabiliser
Black Prince is also pretty good from my experience. Just... a little slow.

It's pretty much the only 7.7 tank which can reliably bounce a lot of enemies' rounds. + it looks cool.
I was in a match with one recently and I was genuinely shocked to see it move faster backwards than forwards. I just was not expecting it
You should play the Carro Armato M Celere Sahariano. (2.7) Its a medium tank prototype created by Italy during World War II to match the speed and firepower of British cruiser tanks seen by Italian forces during the North African campaign, which it does well with a forward/back speed of 61 / 5 km/h. Its armor's not amazing but its decent for the BR. Its gun is pretty nice, a 47 mm 47/40 mod.38 cannon with a reload speed of 5.2 seconds, and the Granata Perforante mod.39 (APBC) one shots most pens it gets. Its appearance is pretty comical it looks a pancake should be pretty easy to make a meme out of. Hope you see my comment and take it into consideration. Thanks for reading (DAY: 3)

Please play the T95. Its very fast and good for flanking so it should suit your playstyle well. Also after the BR changes its actually decent as long as you dont get 8.0.

Was trying it a little bit and altho I love doing CAS with the Griffon Spitfire, the constant uptiers against soviet and american heavies are hell. This thing in particular feels really hard to play and you either reach the point in the frontline your team has already been wiped or they have advanced so you gotta keep advancing at 15 km/h loojing for something to shoot.
The name tortoise is fitting as the tank is so ridiculously slow.
Didn’t like this thing at first but I did enjoy it after a while.

Always loved the Tortoise and the Turtle, being bait for the team and taking shells like a bunker. I think it and probably the Type 87 (very contrasting ik) were my favorite tanks, real turn the brain off and relax vehicles.

Best explanation for the tortoise, is that it's Noob-bait.
Noobs don't know how to deal with it, so it gets a funnily high BR while anyone with experience even in a full downtier can kill it without it having much of a chance to fight back.
Same thing as the Japanese Zeros, imagine having a plane that even in a full downtier has a worse top speed and energy gain than the slowest plane you can face, but turns really well. Anyone who has basic energy fighting experience will never be in danger and will kill it much like the tortoise.

In regards to your final stand the same thing happened to me in my first realistic game and I got stuck in the middle of the highway on the map with a bunch of shipping containers. Dead center of the road, got 10 kills in an m2 stuck in the middle of a road. It was a blast.

Suggestions for swedish vehicles:
m/38 tank - 110mm pen apds at 1.0 with 4 sec base reload
pbv 302 - NLAW tracked carrier with a 20mm at 8.7
Strv103 - the fast reload and high reverse speed makes it a lot of fun
I've played the Tortoise a bit. I find that people generally don't know how to deal with it. People shoot and shoot and shoot at me, but most of the time nothing happens (unless they manage to flank me). It's fun to feel "invincible" but it is really, really, really slow.

As a Britain main, this thing is super fun to ridgeline with when possible, It's biggest enemy is urban fighting, the reverse gear is phenomenal for popping a shot and pulling back under the ridge to scout out again, but like every British vehicle, Solid shot ruins it sometimes, But on the bright side in a full downtier your only enemies are things that are good at fighting up close.
