why not just take this down ?...its a terrible representation of a woman that could normally Blow the doors off Carnegie hall...its crystal clear to me something was very wrong w/her here,.maybe she had been drinking or had a bad cold or both? either way she's 81 yrs old now and sharp as blade!! she deserves better than this...seriously....just take it down.
Your so right!!.. I have a CD of the 1978 tour and Grace sounds Awesome. Why can't RCA release the 1978 tour. The band was at their peak as JS live ... Her Dreams album that came out in 1980 was also a great vocal and her many tours in the 1980's she sounded good..
@@ghoula69 agreed. a touring busy band is gonna have ruff nights for the singer. this was one of hers. i heard her live since this concert and she sounded great. and you're right - the Dreams album in 1980 was one of her best.
yes they should take it down
One of the greatest female singers of all time. Right up there with Janice Joplin
Always appreciate her honestly and candor. She never sugar coats
Love in her book when she calls Keith Richard an asshole for burning down houses in the valley because of a cigarette butt discard!
true. evident when Geraldo Rivera asked her "if you had to do it all over again what would you do different?" she said "i'd have blonde hair and big tits."
Yes she is in fact singing off key.and my guess is that she had been drinking....she used to admit that when she drank her voice "sucked."Having said that i would rather hear Miss Slick sing totally sh....it faced than listen to Stevie Nicks sober as a judge.....I LOVE them b oth but Stevie please take Slicks advice and give up the rock stage...your voice is Completely Shot...
It's Papa John Creach's violin we miss on the live versions! I'd like to think those parts are being played by the keyboardist, on his synthesizer.
Totally...his piercing opening sets the tone for this entire song and brings tears to my eyes.
I saw this tour. I remember because Pete Sears had a broken leg and played bass in a chair! They were great from '74 - '78.
Yeah, their transformation was quite amazing. They went from a loose bar band to a sort of a jazzy rock band.
@@bumsharvest5493 Well they had the radio-friendly Marty Balin sung hit songs like "Miracles", "With You Love", "Count on Me", and "Runaway", and some people thought all their songs were in that vein. But those ballads were actually the exception. The other songs on their records were definitely rock.
Amazing Grace........ Love her...
I saw them at Alexander Colosseum in 1981. Grace looked amazing, her voice was so powerful and she OWNED that stage. As good as she was early on, she was even better in the later years when she was cleaned up.
Red Ryder opened...
@@exactmerob Yup..And they had to play with borrowed instruments because theirs had been stolen.
Love airplane or starship, long as Grace sings
I was at this show Miami Jai Ali. Same venue a short while later Tommy Bolin blew Jeff Beck off the stage. He died that nite. Starship was great. Many more females in the audience than for the usual band. Lotta pecculi in the air
I love Grace but she is off key and sounds awful here. She was better again when she came back after her absence 1978-1980...
I absolutely love Grace but this performance sucks. I’m guessing too many cocktails prior to the show.
j adore ce groupe. Red Octopus est un super album de musique
Slightly off key, unfortunately. She might be off, but could also be a monitor issue, so she has difficulty hearing herself. Who knows. Her vocals are also very high in the mix, which doesn’t help.
She's not off key.
is it possible garace was singing out of key here?
In Grace's defense, it's very hard to stay in key when you cannot hear yourself singing. Those two little monitors in front are no match for Johnny's drums and the huge amps blasting out the rest of the sound. I daresay you'll find many an off key in any band if you isolate the singer's mic channel in a live rock music performance and listen only to the vocal.
Grace Slick is one of the amazing voices in rock but this performance is painful. Grace is obviously inebriated here and not in control. Her famous vibrato is not present and she is singing off key. This is a very sad performance. I saw her years later in the 1989 Jefferson Airplane reunion and she was magnificent in Chicago.
Not every song calls for vibrato.
I saw this tour in Saratoga NY and Boston MA and she sounded totally great, she must have had a cold here. This tour she was winding down on the coke and booze so we can't blame that. Or maybe she did a toot and it threw her off and had to have a drink to calm her down. Either way, Grace gets to have a bad night once and a while.
i agree. even the rock stars can blow it occasionally and Grace would be the first to acknoweldge her f*ck-ups. I saw Fleetwood Mac in Cleveland and Stevie Nicks greeted the crowd with "hello Cincinatti!" then proceeded to blow half her songs. oh well.
@@haintedhouse2990 But when we put it all into context, the vulture capitalism grueling tour is responsible for many artists using drugs to stay on top of it all, wearing themselves out and destroying their art and health. Then we the people blame the artist.
I saw this tour here in Michigan and Grace sounded perfect doing this same song, I remember it well! Sorry to see this is the "offical" video.
Why did Rhino post this? Not a very flattering performance by Grace.
It's unfortunate, but it's not her fault, and certainly not rhino's. She had a pretty bad case of laryngitis at the time.
@@jackbailey5304 Rhino did not need to release this performance and have it all over the internet. Unless they were deaf, they should have known better. I saw them live many times and something was really wrong with her this night. It’s too bad. she even knew it was not going go be good.
The proper spelling is "Fast Buck Freddie."
To all on here questioning-look at the stage backdrop. Spitfire. So 1977 time frame.
Gracie still nails it. So she's a bit off key. SO WHAT. No stupid ass Autotune or any other garbage. It's a LIVE performance-get it ?
This ain't Swiftie or any other new crap-this is clean pure TALENT.
she doesn't seem like she's drunk, she sounds hoarse. if you were loaded you wouldn't make a statement like "they'll probably take it away from me after they hear Fast Buck Freddie." drunks always think they're singing like a bird.
Not to be confused with Starship, who sucked. This incarnation of the Jefferson Starship was creating wonderful adult Rock N Roll. I was just a kid during this time, but this certainly brings back great memories.
Grace Slick blew out the doors for those of us old farts back in the 60s and 70s. But where the hell is Pappa John Creach in this vid!? He could tear up the fiddle and make you want more.
Grace seemed a little off here...and she was not on key either. I love her anyway.
Drunk and coked up.
Agree, this one sounded off - but Grace is one of my favorite singers of all time - and writer!!! I miss her onstage, but glad she's happy....We still have the music and memories of where we were - Check Grace's amazing voice in this 1982 version - ua-cam.com/video/18jDxLCp97E/v-deo.html :)
I think I just discovered the first punk song. Wow. It has such a punk cadence. Love it
LOVE ANYTHING THEY DO!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE ICONIC..ON EARTH AND HEAVEN.......
All singers have bad days.
We were there! Like another planet. Present times pale by comparison.
it was an award show. they announced grace had won best female vocalist - but what they meant was that she was Nominated. that's why grace says - 'when they hear me sing, they'll take it back'. after the song they announced Linda Ronstadt had won - and they cut to grace's face. an all around bad night for her.
Shame.... Gracie's off key on this one. Hey, no-one's perfect and in light of her Whole Singing History - forget it!
what year was this from if you know?
@@ijc1128 1976.
They mentioned that she won (nominated) then the guitarist started to casually play/tune-up and that seemed kind of rude, like "Say a few words about your nomination.. while I play this lick from my guitar". Dick.
Horrendous vocals
00:30
this was horrible
She sounded better on the red octopus album.....but I love grace slick
Was this from some awards show or don Kirchner's rock concert..
Grace did not a good performance. Really. To say the least.
The queen love love love ❤❤❤❤
I saw this tour at New Mexico State. I remember Pete Sears in his cast!
anybody know what year this was from?
Anybody know what year this was?
Sorry don't know, hopefully someone will! I'm curious too! :)
1976.
萬豐
The Red Octopus album was released in 1975
I can't remember... and neither can Grace.
I saw this tour, I have pictures.
Scored by the Jefferson Starship!!!
She sings a tad flat here, and at other 70s JS shows I've heard. Probably a combination of booze, coke, and stage volume.
Beautiful
God I love Grace so much but it kills me to hear how she abused her cords with alcohol and coke.
Sad & true. She was at her prime with Jefferson Airplane, White Rabbit...just sayin. :)
She had a cold.. Coke wasn't her big thing. It was alcohol.. She has been sober since 1979 with only a few times where she had a slip up.. This was recorded in 1976 Have you listened to Earth, their 1978 album or her solo album " Dreams" ? her voice is awesome. I have seen her sing live in 1983 1986, and 1987, her voice was Awesome. and get the Jefferson Airplanes 1989 reunion album. Her Vocals are as strong as ever.. She retired in 1990 by choice to get involved in animal right causes and she paints and sells her paintings on line and she is fucking awesome at that.. She never retired because her voice was shot far from it . She did a show with JS in 1995 for a tribute to Papa John who passed away and she sang beautiful and she has been on stage a few more times with Paul Kantner before he passed away and she still had the chops.. You try singing with a head cold and a sore throat.. May I add I have live recordings of the 1978 tour and Grace sounds just as strong as she did in 1967..
ghoula69 thanks!
How do you know this? Seen them plenty of times and they were always awesome.
Rock n Roll- how would Janis sound?
Lip sync could have fixed this
THIS IS SO LOW ON THE VOLUME, WHO COULD HEAR IT? LORD HELP!! TURN THIS THING UP!!!!!!
