Grace is unbelievably 84 now. I was 6 when this came out but remember it on the radio and although had no comprehension of the lyrics the music was and still is magical. RIP Marty.
The greatest incarnation of one of the greatest bands of all time. When Jefferson Starship was riding high, the world was a great place to be in. Marty Balin, Grace Slick, Paul Kantner, Pete Sears, David Frieberg, Craig Chaquico, and John Barbata. Perfect band. Thanks for your perfect music. I wish I could go back to the 70s.
To be fair, these folks used whatever technical shmear du jour was available for each album as they tried to keep getting songs on the radio. That's why this 'unplugged' vid is so refreshing.
The point is, these folks had to have actual TALENT to get anywhere. Today's so-called artists have techno tools to cover for their lack of vocal chops.
@@bigpaulie806 almost all rock bands had love songs. It's called diversity. Today the only love songs are sung by children who were on Barney and former Disney stars who grew up in studios and need no talent they just do voice overs. Aerosmith did a few love songs even Ozzy Osbourne came close to a love song LOL. I don't know about lovey dovey but this song is Kick-Ass
Beautiful smiles, Marty. Angelic voice. Unequaled singing/songwriting. We miss you. RIP - hope you finally got to "exist on the stars"; see you there someday. 💖💖💖
Marty had such a beautiful voice, and working with Grace, what a knockout pair. I wish they had recorded more songs. I could listen to them 24 hours a day. Thank you Marty and grace
Grace 1 of the best female singers of our BOOMER generation. As well she was a model, very attractive, sultry & sedductive lady. Her sarcastic humour and attitude, her 'wide- eyes-expressions, all Grace. so sad she has not aged well. She needs the LORD for her salvation (John 3.3, 33-34-

Beautifully performed I LOVE YOU my HUSBAND and best friend I've been through hell and back since I've been missing you. I LOVE YOU and miss you so much
Brilliant effortless talent. I'm moved and I feel so honoured to have discovered this piece of history. Rest is peace Marty Balin. Thank you for sharing this.
God I feel old. I thought I recognised this and yes at the end there it was. Recorded for The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1978 and I watched that programme and remember this track burnt into my memory ever since. I believe they also did Miracles on the same programme. They supported Genesis at Knebworth that year and I was there to see them perform. What a fantastic time to be alive and into music. I remember those days with a fondness but also a sadness that they will never come back and must remain memories.
I was at Knebworth too. For Genesis really but I had the Earth album from Jefferson Starship so was looking forward to seeing them. Shame Grace Slick didn't get to the gig after "problems" in Germany the previous night. Tom Petty was there too and Devo got a load of stuff thrown at them. Not really the right band to be on that bill. Great times back then. When your dad and grandad didn't want to see the same stuff as you ...
How many years later in my life, I have fallen in love with their music. It's magic. Thank you !!! To think back in the later 1990's they played at my college live, I just walked by ! What a fool :-) RIP Marty. Love you all ! Blessings ..
How refreshing and pleasant to see professionals singing who are smiling and enjoying themselves. Today we have 'musicians' singing as if they are angry and constipated. Who wants to look at that?
This is one of those timeless songs, beautifully written with Marty's incredible range. I was very fortunate to see them,(the original band) in 69'. This tune is in the key of A....Is a lot easier to handle when your younger, compared to me now having to do it in the key of G. Old Man now.
Very nice. One hears more on this than the cleaned up final product release, although want Grace more involved. So much talent in that room. Thanks for posting. Love you, Marty..
This is a super cool video of them rehearsing. I loved this group and still do. I'm now 62 years old. Brings back good memories. I was 20 years old when this song was a hit.
Thank you SO MUCH for this!! :) LOVE it! RIP Marty Balin ..... Thank you for all the beautiful and groovy music. Such an incredible voice and songwriter, he will be greatly missed!
Along with many songs, THIS Group made helped me thru my teen years, yes!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Jefferson Starship for seeing me through. I counted on this song each day out of high school-Orlando FL
Nobody can say that they are underrated! I have Earth in my collection! They got lots of air time and sold millions of records! No autotune, no shit? Thanks! Rock and Roll is good time music!
Hi Julie, I was just playing this song on guitar and looked up utube. I noticed your last name in the comments and was wondering if you are related to (RIP) John malmberg,, from Illinois?,, a auto mechanic and once served in the US army?
Had an angel back in the early 80s in college (University of Illinois) named Denise. Ths was my song for her (along with one from the Sixties actually called Denise). Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. Denny, wherever you are, still love you. Marcos
I saw the Jefferson Starship in the mid-70s. I’m terrible with years. I think it might have been right after Red Octopus came out. Craig’s solos were mind blowing. I wish I could go back in time and see that show again.
Marty’s voice was so sweet and warm. The most beautiful song by Jefferson Starship.
AGREE 100 %
