Hi there, PDX social rep.
Small comment, unrelated to the actual video.
If this is going to be a disappointment like Imperator, or horribly unstable/unfinished like EU4's 1.30 or Stellaris later patches, this will be my last Paradox purchase.

Sadly most people have a very anglocentric view of the Viking Age. Viking Age Russia is usually either ignored entirely or just superficially mentioned at best. It's really sad if you think about all the great achievements of the Vikings in the East. We have tons of evidence for a significant Norse presence in the Kievan Rus during the Viking Age. Viking Age Kievan Rus is very rich in archaeological findigs of scandinavian origin. As a matter of fact genetic analysis of human remains from the Viking Age found in the area of Staraya Ladoga/Aldeigjuborg clearly show a strong genetic affinity towards Scandinavia. During the Viking Age Ladoga was just as much part of the Norse World as Hedeby or Jorvik. The Vikings lived in Russia and ruled large parts of european Russia for hundreds of years. It just baffles me how so many people just ignore the Viking Age in the East.

The title got my full attention instantly - it would have been interesting to hear about the Iberian Peninsula though.
The Reconquista process was a very long period in the Iberian Peninsula's History, that ultimately forged what is modern day Portugal and Spain.
Being from Northern Portugal I'm very curious about the early stages of the Reconquista, since my region was part of the former Roman Province of Gallaecia, which did have its own unique chapter in this long story. Tariq's invasion of the Visigothic Kingdom happened in 711, and the Reconquista started at the 722 Battle of Covadonga. But the 740 Berber Revolt against their Arab companions left Gallaecia practically untouched by the Muslims, and much debate still exists about the theses of the _Ermamento_ , that tries to uncover how was this territory managed during the power vaccum that prolongued until precisely around the years depicted here.
Theories are that either the territory was utterly emptied of people (I don't buy that), or it remained with scarse populated communities that responded to neither Christian rule from Astúrias or Muslim rule - although maintaining some cohesion through the Church/Clergy, that didn't left the territory.
In either case, the _Presúria_ (an ancient term for the reconquering of a town for that period) of the city of Porto, in which Count Vímara Peres took the city for the Christians, happened precisely in 868! This episode marked the birth of the First _Condado_ _Portucalense_ (County of Portucale), being thus the first seed to the birth of Portugal.
By the end of the IX Century, all of former Gallaecia was back again in Christian hands, and I only recall of a punitive campaign from Almansor around the turning of the millenium, that was able to push the frontier back to the Douro river in some places, and sacked Santiago de Compostela.
PS: Viking raids, the fragmentation of the Carolingian Empire, and the Muslim invasion were the cause for the creation of the medieval castle.

Yet the Fatimids imams who came in early 10th century completely changed the Maghreb. New berber dynasties rose to power. And religious conflict erupted between pro Fatimid shias and prob Umayyads sunnis. Over time when islamic spain went into trouble, it became hugely dependent of the situation in maghreb. @@TheLocalLt Wow, that was one hell of a read :D interesting though
I don't think you got my point though:
During the early and high middle ages the concept of the Roman Empire in the West was rather unclear. The Roman Empire was presumed to exist outside or independently from any specific Germanic kingdom.
According to the theory of "translatio imperii" the Roman Empire of antiquity never ceased to exist but only shifted from one people to another (so they would argue it went from the original Romans to the Greeks, to the Franks, Lombards and Germans). It also was supposed to be around until judgment day according to Biblical prophecy.
So, when Charlemagne got crowned emperor he just fulfilled a role that was temporarily vacant.
The later Saxon and Salian emperors saw themselves in the same tradition of being some sort of supranational rulers when they crowned the kings of Poland, Hungary and Bohemia and disposed popes.
I would say that maybe during or after the Hohenstaufen era the notion of the Holy Roman Empire became one that could be connected to the German ruled realm, meaning that the emperors lost the claim towards universal rulership.

Vlorë should be Byzantine controlled. I'm not sure why they put Zachlumia under Croatia, nor why the Serbians occupy a good chunk of Croatian lands. Vyatichs, Radimids, and Severians paid tribute in fur per household, so I don't see how they'd be vassals instead of a tributary with the game mechanics. 'Alba' should still be the 'Picts' as 'King of the Picts' was still the formal title for a couple more generations. The Slavic lands and Ireland deserve to be broken up, but we'd probably need to get a bigger map then. Kanem hasn't expanded with trade outposts to the north yet, so it should still be concentrated in the east of Lake Chad. I believe the Seven Magyars should still be Around the Dnieper, but it's really up for debate so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Correct me if I'm wrong anywhere, though. I'm also not sure how well the vassals are done.

I think the only reason Ireland and Russia aren't as divided is 1. Balancing and Playability 2. Just not enough information.
Ireland has always been considered the Tutorial Island where new players go to learn as well, so having 30 different countries on an island would be really intimidating for new players.

Acording to Sæmund Frode's chronolgy and information provided by Snorre Sturlasson, Harald became king 10 years old in 860 when his father Halfdan the Black drowned under the ice in Randsfjord, sparking immediately turmoil in his Uppland kingdom. Guttorm Sigurdsson, Harald's uncle took comand and repelled the attack from the kings of Hedmark and Alfheim and anexing the first mention kingdom. After being refused a marriage by Gyda who would not marry a petty king Harald then proclaimed he would conquer all of Norway and not cut his hair before this was accomplished. Historians has guessed this startet in 862 with a 4 (862-866) year campain in Northern Norway conquering the regions of Trøndelag, Namdal, Hålogaland, Møre and Fjordane before returning south to Viken and the Upplands to repell an attack by king Eirik Eymundsson of Sweden. He returned the year later back to Trondheim and remained there some years before receiving word that the remaining kings in Norway were gathering a large force to counter Haralds expansion. Harald wasted no time gathering his own forces and rushed south, the kings of Hordaland and Rogaland were caught by suprised and fleed to their ally in Agder to consolidate their forces. Harald placed himself in Hafrsfjord waiting for the coalition of kings who came and fought him in the battle of Hafrsfjord in 872 (or 870 depending on how you interpretating the sources) which the kings were defeated. After 10 years of campaining Harald was known as Luva (translated as tangledhair) this name was replaced when he went to Ragnvald Mørejarl who cut his hair, Ragnvald would the proclaim "Now you are Harald Fairhair!"

Home, because there is a very old connection between ancient Thrace and old Bulgaria. Once Bulgarians restored their country in the Balkans, they became the source of Christianity, culture and literacy (the Cyrillic alphabet) to all the Slavic tribes in Europe.
