Actually it's from the movie paint your wagons the sunshine in a bag thing actually refers to gold dust that fell between floor boards in the saloons as people paid for drinks and food with gold nuggets Clint Eastwood was in the movie hence the name of the song
Think the longer version is older by about 5- 7 years. The lyrics, I'm happy feeling sad I got sunshine in a bag. @@lauramarinaperez8325 Damon was known for cocaine use throughout the early years of Gorillaz. I believe he has kicked that now, but it was theorized that's how he got his voice so high on some tracks.
@@JacobLeex yeah, but you can still be a fan of a group/artist and not love all their work. I love Gorillaz, since they formed. But I don’t have to love all of it to love them…
To be fair, I would hesitate to say 'steadily' when referring to their work. Truth is, Damon and Jamie had a huge falling out a decade-ish (maybe not precisely, but close) ago. They didn't talk to each other for a good, long while, and I believe there was even an interview where Damon said the Gorillaz were dead. This was around 2012. It wasn't until they reconciled that they released Humanz, because the two decided to fix their working relationship. That aside... Being able to recover from differences like that should be something of note.
The rapper on this track is Del tha Funkee Homosapien from the legendary group Hieroglyphics. Gorillaz have a lot of features. Check out the song by them called Ascension feat. Vince Staples. The live version at “Life is Beautiful” festival is amazing. Other features include Schoolboy Q, De La Soul, Mos Def, Roots Manuva, MF Doom, Shaun Ryder, etc.

I've been a fan for almost 20 years now, practically from their start. I'm just now learning there's an ACTUAL STORY to the whole thing! It's an INSANE story and I love it!
Yep. Look at his descriptions in full you UA-cam. He knows what he is doing. Anybody who would claim any musical knowledge in his age demographic would have heard the song hundreds if not thousands of times. These reaction videos are just lies
If I remember correctly, the purpose of the animated characters were because Damon didn't want real people and their personas to detract from the music but still wanted someone for the audience to engage with. The genres are blends of different ones and change from song to song. I remember something about Damon saying that he noticed that a lot of the youth at the time were largely separated into genres as far as their tastes for music went and he didn't like this. A lot of the youth didn't explore different kinds of music (old or new) so he wanted to create music that had somewhat of a mix of pop elements from genres like electronic, rock, hip hop, country etc. But blend them in a way that it would expose the audience to different elements of other genres and hopefully open their minds to different kinds of music. That was the base of what Gorillaz as a "band" and project was meant to be.
Also I recall there being a desire to be able to switch the real musicians out who played the animated ones to give the albums a specific sound. Basically Gorillaz could be anyone and everyone as needed. You even hear little hints of that concept in this song--Del is both there and not--you don't see with your eye, you perceive with your mind. When you look at the screen it's Del the ghost, but that isn't who is _really_ rapping--that's just a drawing.
Fun little fact about this video in particular: When Del whispers “It’s all in your head,” it only can be heard with headphones, through speakers it’s just silence. Idk how they pulled that off but it was always so cool
This takes me back, Gorillaz is incredibly hard to explain in just one genre, they are all over the place. Even in some of the live versions they will switch up and change the verses. Your gonna get a lot of Feel Good, Inc in the comments but for me 19-2000 and Dare have to stand out as my favorites from this group.
My favorite track by Gorillaz is "Fire Coming Out of The Monkey's Head" that is more a story set to music about a village of people invaded by mysterious soldiers who anger the mountain they live on. It's a wild ride and an amazing work of poetry
Thats one of my favorite songs as well! I'd probably say Clint Eastwood is #1 and Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head is #2. I had no idea it was Dennis Hopper! How could I not know that after all these years??
The Gorillaz are an animated band (fictional?) The creator was the lead singer of the band Blur, and for a lot of the songs it’s collaborative with multiple other artists. There are tons of great songs from them; definitely a great band to get into. And there are a lot of Clint Eastwood references in the lyrics, mostly movie titles that he stars in.
Gorillaz is so good. Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head, Stylo, On Melancholy Hill are all fantastic. Listening to Demon Days as a whole is a very special experience as well, I recommend you check it out.
I grew up listening to pretty much anything and everything due to the influence of my parents. They exposed me to all kinds of music and I’m incredibly appreciative for that. Even though they’re both gone now, I still carry that with me. That being said, I remember when this cd came out someone that my dad worked with burned a copy of it and sent it home with my dad to give to me. I immediately fell in love and have been a huge fan ever since.
What's cool about Gorillaz is that the band was created to tell a story. Each character grows and gets fleshed out through each album. For example, Russell, who's featured in the lyrics, is the drummer and he channels the ghosts of dead rappers for bars in their songs, which explains why they feature different artists on different albums and songs. Also the lyrics by Del the Funky Homosapien are in character; they're from the perspective of a ghost summoned by Russell during the video.
This is the song that got me on Del the Funky Homosapien. Any of his solo stuff or what he did with the Hieroglyphics is pretty much spectacular. Smart dude.
The creation of the Gorillaz was a masterpiece. This group is like a laboratory which different musicians can use to do something completely different as they do in their normal identity. Great to see that you take this wild trip in universe of gorillaz songs.
Fun fact the rapper on this track Del the funky Homosapien a.k.a. ice cubes cousin released his best album Deltron 3030 literally the day after this this song was released March 5, 2001 and his album was released March 6, 2001
It's definitely interesting to see an international group of artists making music together. British band with an American rapper from Oakland. I love their first album. It's damn near perfect.
Gorillaz is a childhood nostalgia band for me! So many good songs and they are all "Strange" or "Weird" but in a good way. The concept of the virtual band is also really cool! There are some great live concerts where they have the characters as "Holograms" that are worth checking out!

"Feel good, inc" & "Shoe shine" next!!!! La! Cannot tell you how much I love this band! My stepson turned me into them a decade ago when I was in my late 30 s....I still absolutely love them!!! So, with deepest respect, go deeper, you won't be disappointed!
Gorillaz are in a genre all on their own. They are an all digital band. They have, however, been performing live in recent years as themselves. Back in the day, while in concert, they were draped in shadow while their animated selves played. They are one of my favorite bands and I need you to react to more if them
Feel good inc is definitely a must watch for the band. Fun fact, the song got its name because of the instrument they use to create that old school western sound you hear mixed in that was famously used in Clint Eastwood western films.
Gorillaz really can't be explained by any one music genre they cross back and forth through hip hop rock and even at times pop. Also you missed the dance moves from Michael Jackson's thriller done by the zombie gorillas. One other thing the rapper is Del the Funky Homosapien who happens to be the cousin of the rapper Ice Cube. Great song that is just one of a great volume of work. Another great one is feel good inc.
The lead singer is the guy from the 90s band Blur. Del the Funky Homosapien is the guest rapper on this track. But they play their own instruments and rap themselves as well. They work with De La Sol on a track on their second album and it kills! They are awesome!
I feel like I'm in the minority (or just old) bc I still think of Blur as Damon Albarn's "main" band and Gorillaz as a "side project"- mostly bc that's how they were described initially.
@@ScientificallyStupid I've definitely heard more Gorillaz, but Song 2 was cool & I had the same Mickey Mouse shirt he wore in the video. Neat artist thought, hard to put him in a specific genre & he's accent persists in his singing voice.

You're definitely going to get a ton of recommendations to watch "Feel Good Inc," which is a great one, but I'm hoping you'll see "Stylo" before long. It's the first song of their Plastic Beach era storyline... and yes, the Gorillaz have had story arcs over the years. "Stylo" directly continues into "Melancholy Hill," and after that... the official video for "Rhinestone Eyes" never got past the storyboard phase, but after 6 years of effort, a fan completed it. And it's awesome.
One of my personal favorites is the song 19-2000 (SoulChild Remix) and Superfast Jellyfish but others to listen to have to be Dirty Harry, Plastic Beach, and Feel Good Inc. for some of there earlier biggest hits. They have some newer works out too and of those my favorites are Humility (the comeback song after a very long break), Tranz, and Pink Phantom. Also the band itself has some very interesting lore and history behind it that you may find generally interesting. Love the reactions btw!
Gorillaz has a hybrid sound. They blend alternative, hip-hop and techno, along with otherstyles depending on the song, and every song is different. A few suggestions for their songs, 19=2000, feel good inc, fire coming out of the monkey's head, stylo.
Gorillas are definitely a vibe my man, as everyone else has said, they don't really have a genre, they have a song for every type of mood you could be in
Totally here for Gorillaz. No skip albums and amazing music. Taking members from different genres creates an awesome mix. The features like Del, De La Soul, Mos Def, and others keep the hip hop authentic.
First time seeing a video from this channel. I’m interested in how you’re not only trying to place this on a timeline, but also that you’re so interested in the mental aspect of this song. Keep up the good work.
Coolest thing was back in 2006 at the Grammys when the Gorilla performed "live" on stage. It was absolutely amazing. This tech needs to be brought back.

They mix so much in their music with visual work they work with a lot of different performers man you know they just fantastic continue checking out the albums and all the rest of their work you'll love it
Some of my favorite songs from the Gorillaz that you might like: Feel Good, Inc. Rhinestone Eyes Up On Melancholy Hill Kids With Guns Dirty Harry Tomorrow Comes Today DARE
The harmonica and background bites were inspired from the Spaghetti western movies, especially "The Good, Bad, and the Ugly". The chorus section was a parody of "Saddlebag of Sunshine". The apes were dancing Michael Jackson's "Thriller".
'Gunsmoke' was the longest running TV western. Had James Arness as the lead. Clint Eastwood was not on it. He was on 'Rawhide'. The harmonica tune was a variation of Eastwoonds late 60- early 70's Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns.
Gorillaz are a mix of hip hop and other genres such as alt rock, pop and club music. They came out during a period when hip hop was extremely popular within the mainstream (late 90s to early 2000s), along with all the nu metal bands that also blended rap with other genres. This was also the era that gave us Eminem.
It the classic status of an artist freeing themselves from the live performance. Jamie Hewlett (tank girl) provides the characters, but Damon Alban ( blur ) produces the music. Triple platinum debut, followed by multi platinum follow up cemented them into the British music scene. Huge artist have collaborated with them, no genre isn’t addressed. De la soul, Shaun Ryder, Bobby Womack all worked with them. Everything they do has pushed the boundaries. Even touring as stage projections, it’s actual fantastic as they have aged, noodle has grown up, clothing styles have changed, they have never stood still....and are always interesting.
Bro, you seem honest with your process of understanding music. I'm in my 40s this song was a boss in its day. Love you processing this song.. much love .

Gorillaz have so much individuality and uniqueness to every one of their works and songs and there's so much to delve deep into with all the different sounds

Gorillaz are an English virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, from London, England. Damon Albarn was founder of the band Blur who oasis got their vibe from completely different sound
The Gorillaz is a project from Blur's Damon Alban (and the creator of the Tank Girl comics) as a way of doing music with friends and guests (in this case Del the Funky Homosapien ) There is an ongoing story through the videos that runs over albums. I think from memory Alban said this song has references to the birth of British Hip Hop though the influence of certain American artists.
Gorillaz are a hybrid band that is a bit of Alt Rock and hip hop. This band was formed in 2001 and all the music videos tell a story about the band and topics about the song.
Nailed with early 90s vibe because everyone started about that time and came together much later. The group members all got their start very differently but with the passion of music linked up which is the answer for the weird, mix, nothing you have ever heard vibe.
This was their like big MTV debut hit. You should check out a song off the album Humanz specifically Saturnz Barz and Strobelite. To see how far they have come from this beginning.

Gorillaz gives a very smooth and hip vibe. The animation of their videos is amazing. My favorite is "Dare."
Approaching 900M plays on youtube at this point on this track alone, Gorillaz have some of the best music to just chill and smoke to.
Gorillaz are in a genre all on their own. They are an all digital band. They have, however, been performing live in recent years as themselves. Back in the day, while in concert, they were draped in shadow while their animated selves played. They are one of my favorite bands and I need you to react to more if them
Try the track Feel Good Inc. if you are a fan of the animation style they use...
This is gonna be fun, vicariously getting a second first impression of this awesomeness. Who's gonna tell him about Blur - Song 2?
I feel like I'm in the minority (or just old) bc I still think of Blur as Damon Albarn's "main" band and Gorillaz as a "side project"- mostly bc that's how they were described initially.
@@ScientificallyStupid I've definitely heard more Gorillaz, but Song 2 was cool & I had the same Mickey Mouse shirt he wore in the video. Neat artist thought, hard to put him in a specific genre & he's accent persists in his singing voice.
@@ScientificallyStupid most folk in the U.K. would probably associate Damon with Blur considering how influential they were in the Britpop movement
Gorillaz is a rabbit hole that's totally worth it!
Dirty Harry
Dare
Stylo
Also the Rapper is Deltron aka Del tha funky homosapian - his 3030 album is absolute 🔥🔥🔥 the title track is pure amazingness!
I find it extremely hard to believe no one has ever heard this song before. especially living in the western world. But hey, reaction videos and saying you never heard the song before is the new trend, so trend on dude.
The song and lyrics make more sense when you understand what "sunshine in a bag" refers to ;)
4:47 Lol, I like how the video's wipe is lined up perfectly where the mic is at 2-D's face.
Del fit this song perfectly. One of this songs that open you up to a whole new world of Gorillas. Definitely worth a deep dive.
Dare and Feel Good Inc are worth a listen. Their whole discography is so unique.
Gorillaz as a group is such an interesting concept
I'm glad he did this on first. Because that's how we all heard it right? And then it was like You just could never predict to what was gonna happen with the rest of it... It's such a crazy first song to go with. When you think about it it's great you know
You're definitely going to get a ton of recommendations to watch "Feel Good Inc," which is a great one, but I'm hoping you'll see "Stylo" before long.
Gorillas are definitely a vibe my man, as everyone else has said, they don't really have a genre, they have a song for every type of mood you could be in
One of the Biggest influences in my life this band. 💞💞💞🤟🤟
Totally here for Gorillaz. No skip albums and amazing music. Taking members from different genres creates an awesome mix. The features like Del, De La Soul, Mos Def, and others keep the hip hop authentic.
Gorillaz has lots of great songs. Everyone listens to Feel Good Inc. but I love "Dare" more.
Yes!!! I can't wait for you to hear more of them 😍 gorillaz are unique as it comes! They blew up instantly when they hit the scene and I still jamm to their tunes regularly.
I'd love to see your reaction to feel good 😁
Огромное спасибо за приятный посыл и интеллегентную точку зрения! Вы профессионал своего дела, и я это уважаю! С уважением. With all due respect.
Del has been my favorite rapper for years. Mad talented!
They mix so much in their music with visual work they work with a lot of different performers man you know they just fantastic continue checking out the albums and all the rest of their work you'll love it
Some of my favorite songs from the Gorillaz that you might like:
Feel Good, Inc.
Rhinestone Eyes
Up On Melancholy Hill
Kids With Guns
Dirty Harry
Tomorrow Comes Today
DARE
The harmonica and background bites were inspired from the Spaghetti western movies, especially "The Good, Bad, and the Ugly". The chorus section was a parody of "Saddlebag of Sunshine". The apes were dancing Michael Jackson's "Thriller".
Ok. We DEFINITELY need to go down this Gorillaz path. Feel Good Inc. and DARE are solid tracks.
'Gunsmoke' was the longest running TV western. Had James Arness as the lead. Clint Eastwood was not on it. He was on 'Rawhide'. The harmonica tune was a variation of Eastwoonds late 60- early 70's Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns.
Can't believe there's people out there that don't know about Gorillaz!!!
Love this band, they are an animated crew. They do their concerts as holograms
Bro, you seem honest with your process of understanding music. I'm in my 40s this song was a boss in its day. Love you processing this song.. much love .
My favorite band, was cool to see you react but also crazy to think someone hasn't heard of them!
Del The Funky Homosapien is amazing. Love that guys bars.
these guys have a great sound.
Gorillaz was founded by Blurr lead vocalist/song writer Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett in London
I am a long time Gorillaz fan...my oldest at 25 remembers growing up with the CD in the house. I love that every song is different, unique and memorable. I recommend Rock the House, Lake Zurich, Stylo, Tomorrow Comes Today, Hollywood (ft. Snoop Dogg) and 19-2000 there are so many....
Gorillaz have so much individuality and uniqueness to every one of their works and songs and there's so much to delve deep into with all the different sounds
Rock the House, Dare, Feel Good Inc., El Mañana. A lot of great songs from this band.
You have to check out more Gorillaz! They’re hard to pin down to one genre, they blend a lot together but still have their own style. So many great songs, I’d recommend checking out Feel Good Inc, Dirty Harry, Kids With Guns, Stylo, On Melancholy Hill, and Pac-Man
Gorillaz are an English virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, from London, England. Damon Albarn was founder of the band Blur who oasis got their vibe from
completely different sound
1997-EARLY 2000'S FOR BANDS LIKE THIS
The Gorillaz is a project from Blur's Damon Alban (and the creator of the Tank Girl comics) as a way of doing music with friends and guests (in this case Del the Funky Homosapien ) There is an ongoing story through the videos that runs over albums. I think from memory Alban said this song has references to the birth of British Hip Hop though the influence of certain American artists.
Gorillaz are a hybrid band that is a bit of Alt Rock and hip hop. This band was formed in 2001 and all the music videos tell a story about the band and topics about the song.
Really hope you do more Gorillaz. Each song is an experience, can't go wrong no matter what you pick.
Nailed with early 90s vibe because everyone started about that time and came together much later. The group members all got their start very differently but with the passion of music linked up which is the answer for the weird, mix, nothing you have ever heard vibe.
I think 'Stylo' is their best video and 'Dare' or 'Feel Good inc' is their best tracks. The groups origin is interesting too
This song got me full on into Del... Opened me up to a whole new W🤯RLD
This was their like big MTV debut hit. You should check out a song off the album Humanz specifically Saturnz Barz and Strobelite. To see how far they have come from this beginning.
They're a late 90's/early 2000s Art Hip Hop project, if anything. Very fun group.
