Oh my god lol I'm a vegetarian, but I really wanna try this because my dog has been reacting really badly to every type of kibble on the market and idk how I'm gonna stomach preparing his food lol but I gotta do what I gotta do to give him a healthy happy life lol
Me and my wife are vegetarian and we raw feed! I’ll admit I’m a meat cutter in a grocery store so I’m pretty knowledgeable about handling, finding, and overall meat info to begin with, but it has been great, my pup is thriving and this diet just makes sense! We feed reptiles and other carnivorous pets whole/raw food why wouldn’t our dogs thrive on this too? Seriously do your research though, primal pack is an amazing starting source and she’ll get you 90% of the way but there’s a lot to cover out there, especially in sourcing meat products, grass vs grain fed, organic vs natural, pasture raised, free range, ect. there’s lots of lingo out there to sort through, and they all will have an influence on how you balance your dogs meals.
Idk The commercial dog food industry is not where vegetarians or people who care about animal welfare should look when sourcing their dog food. You don’t know the sourcing of the meat used meaning the animals could be treated horribly, by sourcing meat yourself you can acquire local, humane, ethically sourced foods to provide cleaner nutrition for your dog, kibble is highly processed, burnt food and has tons of carcinogens, synthetic fillers, and ingredients proven to cause health issues (like starches, grains, sugar, MSG, BHA, Melamin, Carrageenan, and more) the animals in that dog food could have been pumped with steroids, antibiotics, pesticide filled grains, and were probably treated like shit. If you care about animals, kibble ain’t it.
Thank you for sharing these raw guidelines! Planning on starting to feed my 6 months old goldendoodle with raw foods and your videos are the best one I watched! So many informations that can help first time fur parents who wants to introduce raw foods to their dogs. Thank you 😊
Pumpkin seeds looked like a good option as they contain both zinc and manganese. I wasn't sure how much to include but just from looking at the video, it seemed like a spoonful per meal was the right sort of amount so I added 30g of sunflower seeds (for Vit E) and 30g or pumpkin seeds (for zinc and manganese) a day, soaked, dried and finely chopped; turns out a spoonful is nowhere near enough.. My 7 month old puppy is showing signs of hair loss around her hind legs and a zinc deficiency could be the cause. I then found out that there is 8mg of zinc in 100g of pumpkin seeds and 5mg in sunflower seeds and the recommended amount of zinc for a puppy is 25mg. That means if I was to only use pumpkin seeds as my source of zinc I would need to puree 300 grams a day! It would have been useful to include how much zinc is in the nuts that are mentioned as I've been hugely under estimating but that's on me for not doing more research elsewhere. My only real option is to add the zinc from a 20mg pill that my sister in-law just happened to give to my wife recently (she's a bit of a herbal hippy). So here's a word of caution for anyone else who might think a little spoonful of crushed nuts will fill all the nutrient gaps. It won't. Double and triple check the amount you need, the perfectlyrawsome.com site has most of the info you need. (PS I'm still hunting for iodine, hard to find here in Spain)
Thank you. Your 3 videos are simple & informative. My dog has great stools with raw & loose or runny stools with kibble, so he gets raw. I feed him rabbit, pheasant & squirrel roadkill too. Why do you say to freeze whole prey? Worms?
Great channel with great info. I don't want to start a fight here, but just to express my opinion. I think if you feed your dog with all of this many wild carnivores would be envious, as they don't get all of that. They do eat whole small prey or large carcasses, so that is how I try to balance my dogs diet. No oysters, vitamin drops, etc. I'm just saying your way may be overdoing it and viewers may be reluctant to try with all involved, thinking all of that is an absolute must. Keep up the good work, I'm still watching your videos they are good
So the reason why we suggest to feed vitamin drops/shellfish/etc is because a diet of raw meat, bone, and organ isn't going to provide the same nutrient variety as a whole prey animal (like you're feeding!) So we have to add it back in manually. The goal is whole prey, but that's not always accessable or cheap, so we just need a way to feed a homemade raw diet with species appropriate foods that provide missing nutrients back in. That's why there's so much variety
Currently I give my husky, one cup of boiled chicken, veggies like sweet potato, carrot, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, etc, an egg in the morning with his breakfast dish, broth, goat milk, fruits like apples, bananas, mangos, coconut, blueberries, plain Greek yogurt, and anything else I come across with my research. I top off his dishes with raw toppers from Primal or Instinct. I think I need a supplement or something as I don’t feed full raw diet at the moment. However I wish to cook all his food. I just don’t want him to get any deficiencies due to me not having the proper education or experience. Thanks
I don’t feed raw but I do feed cocked. Just wondering if I can feed this to my dog but cooked (minus the bones) ? Also I’m absolutely obsessed with your videos 🤍🤍🤍
I found it! So disregard the comment from the previous video haha. BTW, appreciate the design work you put in with creating the graphics of your animals haha
Thank you! This is something I left out solely because I only know my own dog's recommended allowance. Personally I got a lot of help from moderators (who are also nutritionists) in the Raw Feeding University Facebook group, as well as some of the files within the group (see Feed Fresh Whole Foods file)
Do you only need to feed one of the foods listen in the vit D requirement section? And would the vit D requirement be too high if i fed two of the ingredients listed there?
I have a large garden and can feed kale, spinach, etc. but may I puree with some fruits? He likes blueberries and bananas frozen. May I give him small amounts of the fruit also? or dehydrated carrots, and sweet potato if I keep them as a very small percentage? and do you believe that any grain is bad such as quinoa in small amounts? You said to soak the seeds, is it ok to give soaked ground flaxseed?
Was curious when adding these do their current diet if you subtract it from the calories. His calories are based off of 50% muscle meat, 25% muscle organ, 12% raw meaty bone, 5% liver and 8% secreting organ. I was sure if I should cut back on calories to fit them in or not. I’m aiming for him to lose some weight so I wasn’t sure what the best route would be.
Love your videos! We have a ragdoll 9 weeks old and I prepared him raw based on your video guide and other sources. He is doing great on the raw diet that his fur is so soft and smooth. We are planning to have a puppy as well. I saw the website you answered in another comment regarding raw diet for puppies and that is really helpful! Thank you very much! Do you think it is possible that you could make a video on how to make a puppy’s raw diet? I would like to use it to see if I get the points correctly from the articles. Thanks again! You are doing amazing jobs by posting these videos.☺️
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! We are new dog parents and we are picking up our puppy in a few weeks. I have been watching your video and taking notes every single day. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on UA-cam. Since whole prey will be challenged to resource. I think we will go with “NRC Balancing”. I was wondering what’s a trustful resource to get the percentage of the each categories under the diet plan? Thank you!
hello, I've just started feeding my boxer, roscoe and poodle, Brylee raw. my boxer loves it but he swallows the items whole even the meaty bone and on 3 occasions he threw up 5 to 10 mins later. this was extremally scary for me I don't know if him not chewing or dogs not chewing is normal or if they even need to chew. but I started putting 1/4 his caloric intake in his bowl with his dry food and giving raw treats, he still doesn't chew the raw food, but he isn't throwing it up either. Brylee on the other hand loved it the first time and now will not eat any raw food I give him. please any info will help thank you.
What percent of their diet should be these whole foods? When you says 80% needs to be muscle meat does that mean that if my dog is supposed to eat 4.5 oz a day, it would be 80% of the 4.5 oz so basically 3.6 oz of muscle meat? Thank you!
Hi, I’ve been using your instructional videos to feed my 10 lbs., 6-mo.-old puppy a raw diet. I measure out each of the four key raw foods based on his weight and percentage for puppies. I did my research on how much kelp powder, but can’t seem to find how much soaked/puréed sunflower and pumpkin seeds to add to it. Can you please give me some indications? Also, is it best to mix it into ground meat whenever I’m using that source as the main raw meat?
My problem is my dog doesn’t like all the additions. She barley eats when I put herring oil in she really doesn’t seem to like fish at all. She does like heart I tried beef liver she wouldn’t eat it. So I’m stuck basically feeding all kinds of muscle meat, along with duck necks. I just bought chicken thighs to switch it up but so far she hasn’t ate jt. I don’t know if she will eventually eat that stuff but if I put veggies she just eats around it. Im definitely worried she’s nutrient deficient.she does look amazing her coat is shiny but I still worry.
My cat has CKD and IBD. I have been able to find quit a bit of information about the CKD and needed a low pho diet, but haven't been able to find out much about raw feeding ibd cats. Does anyone have any experience in feeding ibd cats raw?
Could you please can you make videos how should we calculate all of these ingredients? For example my 3.5 kg toy fox terrier eat 154 gr for a day. How should I calculate all of this ingredients? Thanks 🙏🏻
Hey, could you help my raw+kibble recipe for our dogs food? 2 cups dog food. (chicken and rice formula that the dogs love) Raw chicken chunks 1 egg each Small scoop of broth A small amount of some kind of meat/veggie leftover from our dinner Chopped up carrots May replace some things with raw ground turkey/raw meat and I also throw in other things that we happen to be in stock of, like veggies, different meats, wild rice (always gotten from Michigan or Minnesota. ALWAYS fresh, and also cooked) Thats it, but I want to start adding more raw and also I want to know what I need to add/take away from my dogs food.
My dogs daily food. Drumsticks, tenders, eggs and shells, sardines, heart, liver, gizzard, 90% lean ground beef and sometimes a turkey neck. Vit e oil, wheat grass powder, and kelp powder. I hope mine is balanced
Hi, I love your content and appreciate the service you provide to pet owners (in my opinion you deserve more subs) . I have come across something at one of my local meat markets that I have questions about. The label says it is a beef variety mix that contains in this order: kidneys, tongue, heart, fat, swertbreads, and , spleen. My question for you is if this product would be useful in a balanced diet and how I should correctly portion It? I bought a few pounds to have on hand and have used some in a few of my dogs meals (about 15% because it also contains muscle and fat) is this a good ratio to use everyday or would it be better to balance over time?
Wow! That seems like a lot of different meats. My girl is a terrier mini pincher mix. She’s 7yr old and 15lbs and started her on a all meat diet after weaning off kibble. However I’m just feeding her lean steak and she’s still having loose black stools. I read that maybe because of digestive issues I should partly cook it? Also how do I add all those other meats without her having issues. I’d like to keep it as simple and cost effective. Do I have to add all those other things you mention? Can eggs be given raw or cooked. My dog doesn’t do well with chicken but haven’t tried Turkey so not sure if it will bother her. How do I find salmon without bones. Also where can I buy green tripe? I’ve looked for duck necks but extremely expensive to ship. Thanks for any help you can give.
Hi, I have been feeding premade raw but I want to start doing homemade raw for my 2 dogs, if I use a raw feeding calculator and add all the things you showed in this video would it be balanced?
Hey there. I’ve been looking for this info on the net but couldn’t really find legit answer. So I hope you can help me with this? If wheatgrass alkalises your body given it’s high Ph, how does this help dogs when their stomach is actually acidic? Doesn’t this acidity help them digest bones even when swallowed? Correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks
What are good sources for some of these ingredients? Its easy to find liver, necks, yogurt, sardines, etc etc, but finding bone with fur on, or kidneys have proven difficult. There are a number of butchers around my area but apparently for legal reasons they cant sell certain organs, (or at least what I'm told).
Would you say Rabbit is one of the best protein bases? Its very lean and also could, im not sure, qualify as raw bone requirements. Would you be willing to create and make 3 recipes based in rabbit meat? I am willing to pay for a consultations. Are the rabbit organs also sufficient for those nutritional needs?
Does the USDA data include bone weight even though it excludes bone nutrients? For example, does 100g of "Chicken, broilers or fryers, wing, meat and skin, raw" mean with the bone? My NRC balance spreadsheet could be off by 20-80% depending on the percentage of bone. This could mean my puppy won't have all the NRC-required nutrients.
Hey hi.. I am very new to raw feeding my 3.5 months puppy.. he was on a popular kibble diet and suddenly his gut started acting up. Long story short, I am eager to start feeding raw following the NRC guidelines. Just one doubt, all calculations done but what I cannot figure out is that if I feed approx 550 grams of raw chicken per day (calculated after seeing your video), won't the daily allowance for protein exceed for him (56 grams per day)? This confused me.
You videos are awesome!!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!! I have a question about feeding pumpkin seeds, almonds and egg shells. Should I give them raw or should I roast it first? Thanks 😊😊😊😊
Thank you! No roasting! For the nuts and seeds, buy them raw and unseasoned, soak them overnight, and then puree them. With eggshells, just let them dry and blend them into a powder.

Where do you get the whole pray? What kind of small animal do you feed your dog?
What percent of their diet should be these whole foods? When you says 80% needs to be muscle meat does that mean that if my dog is supposed to eat 4.5 oz a day, it would be 80% of the 4.5 oz so basically 3.6 oz of muscle meat? Thank you!
Yep you got it right!
How can i incorporate the almond & the seed? Can i add it grined to the meat?
Im definitely worried she’s nutrient deficient.she does look amazing her coat is shiny but I still worry.
how do you puree seeds like almonds and sunflower seeds? thanks
Where can i buy whole prey items and secreting organs?
Indeed the dog meal
Formula for and the link doesn’t work, and I can’t reply to the email
My cat has CKD and IBD. I have been able to find quit a bit of information about the CKD and needed a low pho diet, but haven't been able to find out much about raw feeding ibd cats.
Does anyone have any experience in feeding ibd cats raw?
Could you please can you make videos how should we calculate all of these ingredients? For example my 3.5 kg toy fox terrier eat 154 gr for a day. How should I calculate all of this ingredients? Thanks 🙏🏻
This girl has the healthiest dog on earth
how do you make sunflower seed and almond puree please?
Hey, could you help my raw+kibble recipe for our dogs food?
2 cups dog food. (chicken and rice formula that the dogs love)
Raw chicken chunks
1 egg each
Small scoop of broth
A small amount of some kind of meat/veggie leftover from our dinner
Chopped up carrots
May replace some things with raw ground turkey/raw meat and I also throw in other things that we happen to be in stock of, like veggies, different meats, wild rice (always gotten from Michigan or Minnesota. ALWAYS fresh, and also cooked)
Thats it, but I want to start adding more raw and also I want to know what I need to add/take away from my dogs food.
How much kelp do I give to a 45 lb dog. I can't figure this out.HELP
Your thoughts on sprouted seeds? I'm surprised you left them out
For a 50-pound female dog, how much sunflower seeds would I need to feed to meet vitamin E requirements?
Where do you find your green or blue lipped muscles???
Hi, I have been feeding premade raw but I want to start doing homemade raw for my 2 dogs, if I use a raw feeding calculator and add all the things you showed in this video would it be balanced?
Where can you find the bone with fur
Hi is it ok to feed a raw egg every day, my dog is 50 lb border collie almost 2 years old, Thanks
Thanks
You said wheatgrass a lot when you say that can I add that or a different one
For veggies, I like to feed spinach and kale. Do I have to steam these two veggies? I always just put them in the blender and feed them raw....
Can you tell me how much of each added nutrient? Like how much vitamin e oil and how much wheat grass?
Is there a way to test for levels to determine if you are under or over providing ingredients?
How do you feed whole prey to a puppy or a cat? Do you stick with smaller prey animals or do you cut the prey into sections?
Great video!
Thank you!!
Will there be the same nutritional benefits in powdered goats milk?
What's your thoughts on premade raw foods from pet stores? Like the raw food in a tube?
Should I give my cat fermented leafy greens?
Can you make this same exact video but for cats?
Help! So the bowl you just made though is for once a day? Or you split that bowl in two?
You videos are awesome!!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!! I have a question about feeding pumpkin seeds, almonds and egg shells. Should I give them raw or should I roast it first? Thanks 😊😊😊😊
Thank you! No roasting! For the nuts and seeds, buy them raw and unseasoned, soak them overnight, and then puree them. With eggshells, just let them dry and blend them into a powder.
Where do you get whole prey?
Informative, thanks
I see that in the zinc and manganese requirements pumpkin seeds are listed. Is it ok if I only feed pumpkin seeds for both zinc and manganese?
How do we calculate how much to add?
How do I know how much nutrients my dog needs?
