See, what I always got annoyed with Nehemia at was the absolute certainty that her death would get Celaena to fight. It didn't. It shattered her. People always seem to think that Nehemia succeeded in making Aelin fight but. she didn't? Celaena goes to Wendlyn completely broken, and she remains that way. Who gets her through it and gets her to fight? Rowan. Not Nehemia.
Finally someone who doesn't hate Rowan and Aelin relationship !! I agree with all you said, I liked the focus on the aftermath of Nehemia's death for Aelin too. And yes, re-reading the series you realize how much Manon changes it's crazy !
I feel the exact same way about the relationship! I literally thought I was the only one to understand it..it’s like yes I see how it’s problematic..but I understand it to be a part of their story and an important part. Happy to find someone that loves this series as much as I do!
Every time I finish a book of the series I come here watching your book talk videos. Don’t know if you remember me ahah, but I’m currently reading Queen of Shadows and... I’M OBSESSED. I bingeread the three books in a week. So... yeah, now I fully understand your love for this series. I’m now :) suffering as well :). Thanks for making me want to be part of this wild ride!!
Aww YEY! I'm so glad that my love for the books inspired you to read them!! That's honestly my favorite thing to hear! I hope you love Queen of Shadows!
I've been rereading the series and watching your videos after each book. I had to comment to echo how you felt about Celaena and Rowan's relationship. I think their relationship in the beginning is mean and unhealthy, but they had both been through such unimaginable trauma. They could see themselves in each other and hated it. Their beginning was sometimes hard to read, but I loved seeing them work through everything together. It made the end so much more meaningful for me. The character development was excellent in my opinion. Also LOVED Manon, and couldn't love Sorscha. I can't wait to get back in to Queen of Shadows!
I'm starting to feel like no one actually liked Sorscha haha! Which is a bummer for Dorian since he loved her, but yes! I'm glad you see Rowan and Aelin's relationship in the same way! I was nervous that people would be frustrated with me for trying to accept their abusive tendencies in the beginning, but I just feel like it's a very different situation than what people were making it out to be!
I just finished Heir of Fire for the first time!!! And holy cow I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I just had a tougher time getting invested in the story with the first two books. They weren’t bad or anything just slower paced for me. But I’m definitely going to pick up Queen of Shadows soon.
Your enthusiasm for this book is soooo contagious!! I love it so much! Thank you!! I looked at Queen of Shadows and saw that it’s 20 hoursssss.... eeek- but after listening to your review I am stoked to continue.
Your makeup looks so so cute! You are amazing and I will never stop saying that you are my favorite booktuber of all times...You motivate me to go further with reading and everything that's related to the world of books!!!I love you so much Brittany!I hope everybody is having a good day💕💕
Unintentionally they were helping each other bcz they both were broken inside and couldnt feel any emotions so through their fighting they were kinda keeping themselves from falling into darkness. And its the same in ACOMAF- feyre was broken inside and she couldnt feel anything but rhys helped her by teasing her so she wont fall over the edge of darkness and be forgotten by the world for forever. So i personally understand it too....at first i was annoyed by rowan's behaviour but then i understood that he is just like celaena and experiencing the same thing. Heir of fire is my fav in the series. People say that nehemia was just used for plot development but i personally think nehemia died for her people she sacrificed herself bcz she thought it was the right thing. Watt people doesnt understand is that nehemia wasnt the only one who suffered but celeana was right beside her. When nehemia died a part of celaena died too....and after her death it wasnt right away that celaena wanted to have revenge and get her throne back. Throughtout heir of fire we see that celaena struggled to fully except herself so people who think that nehemia's death was useless it wasnt and it wasnt for celaena or anyone it was her people.
YES! I feel the same way about Rhys and Feyre as you do! Also, I agree, Nehemia wasn't just a plot tool, especially (spoiler if you havent read Empire of Storms) when we see the scene where Nehemia learns what she's going to have to do from Elena. She truly did everything for her people, and I honestly feel like she's going to have to come back (like as a ghost) for Kingdom of Ash.
I feel similar to Manon and Abraxos. Maybe beside this love thing, but I can see their connection. I admire Manon for that she saw intelligence in Abraxos and determination and strong will to fight for life.
i have read it and I love that Seina IS ACTUALLY THE HEIR AND THAT SHE ESCAPED.I was also so happy that Rowan is her COUSIN.My favourite part is when rowan sees her scars and gets softened by it and also when she couldn't control the fire, but the best part is when Rowan is not the queens lapdog anymore.
It was a very good book, I would honestly say I really like the relationship between Rowan and Aelin! Rowan is soooo cool :)... Also, this book really got me to hate the king of Adarlan. Especially when he slaughtered the slave camps, ooooo. And I had so much emotion in this book. When Celaena was taken over by those Valg Princes I was deaddd, same when Rowan and Aelin agree that they will get through this together, omg. I do like Manon too! However, I am really growing to like Rowan! I hope he is throughout Queen of Shadows! I also started to understand Chaol a little more throughout, and I am glad I got to see his midlife crisis/ growth hahaha. Also can I just say, Dorian and Sorcha was just weird lol, I was kind of confused, did he like actually care for her? I dont know. that storyline seemed a little weak in my opinion. Anywaysssss, I am forcing myself to not read tonight, because all I have been doing the past two weeks is reading this series, but starting tomorrow Queen of Shadows lets goooooooo Ps: omg wtf happened with Dorian. I am shook. What does that wyrdkey necklace do omg....
Thanks so much for making these videos! I am currently reading Empire of Storms after putting it off for 2 years (mostly because your Q&A reminded me how much I love the series). It came out during my first semester of college and the timing has never been right since. I've been so scared I'd be so lost because I haven't read QoS in 3 years but these booktalks have really helped! I'm still a little confused with some of the things in EoS but I'm loving it soooo much!! Also, Heir of Fire is totally my favorite book in the series. I know a lot of people didn't like it because it was slow and character driven but that's exactly why I love it. I could just tell from the writing that Maas put her heart and soul into Aelin's path to healing. Even thinking about it makes me happy. Also, how could you not love Manon, Abraxos, and Dorian? They are so amazing.
That's so true! I agree that it feels like Sarah put everything into it and watching Aelin heal felt so real. This book pulled at all my heart strings and I love how character driven it was. It just has a completely different feeling than in all the other books and it makes it very special. And just let me know if you need any help in updating for EoS! Also my Queen of Shadows booktalk should be coming up on the 31st if you still need an update by then 😊
Brittany Nicole Exactly. The series is amazing as a whole but this one is a different kind of special. And thanks so much! I will definitely do that if I need to!
I did not care for Manon at all till Queen of Shadow!!! Like In HOF I wanted to skip her chapters but didn’t 😅 and ultimately I’m happy I didn’t. Im currently on EOS and TOD!!
I need to reread this series! (Even though I haven't read Empire of Storms 🙊) I remember when I read Heir of Fire I really didn't like Manon's chapters 😂 I felt them to be eternal! But after Queen of Shadows she kinda grew on me 😅
In my first read, I actually didn't like her chapters either! I only liked them in this round, I think, since I've started to love ehr so much more in the rest of the series
Ok so I know I’m 2 years late lmao but I have something to say about Dorian and Sorscha.(some spoilers to Queen of shadows) I think we all knew something bad was going to happen to her and she wasn’t the end goal for Dorian but I do think he really loved her and seeing her beheaded by his own father when he thought they were going to get out of that was horrible. I think the thing that really broke him was having the collar put on right afterwards. He never got that time to heal from her death, the opposite happened. The valg demon used it against him in order to break his spirit. I think Dorian would have been able to fight against the demon a lot more if the death of a loved one hadn’t just happened. That’s why sorscha was necessary. Not only do we get more background info on the rebels and the horrible things that healers had to go through, it also made sure that Dorian couldn’t fight the valg demon on his own. He needed the ring and that whole scene with Alien to break out of it. That scene and everything he went through when he was possessed paved the way for so much character development (and we probably wouldn’t have gotten a certain ship without it). So yeah that’s my thoughts on why sorscha was actually really important to the story. And that whole scene where she died just broke me cause of how Dorian reacted.
Shattered. That's how I feel right now. This book was so amazing that I'm amazed at how it is even a book. How everything I just read fit into this one book and yet I still can't believe it. I am distraught over what happened to Dorian because I don't know why, but I thought what happened to Dorian was going to happen to Chaol and seeing as I'm completely wrong -- I'm so sad :(
Brittany Nicole thank you I read ACOTAR and loved it and I hear that this series is even better I will tell you my thoughts when I read the books actually I’m starting the series tonight 🤞❤️
You know I don't like to pick my favorite character from the main ones, like if we're talking about Harry Potter I'm not gonna go and say he's my favorite character. Doesn't make sense because he's pretty much everyone's favorite. So moving on to my favorite, I'm just gonna say.. Aiden is awesome :D I love him and if he dies in the next books I'll be pissed and reeealy upset. NO SPOILERS PLEASE. thanks :)
When I first bought this book I was so excited and literally sat down and read it all in about like 12 hours with food and bathroom breaks of course XD
I agree with your thoughts about Dorian and Sorcha. I think Sorcha’s character was a bit unnecessary, or I feel like I would’ve enjoyed it more if they were just friends. It was too insta lovey for me I think. I just didn’t really care for her character
YES! Insta love is the best way to describe it. I just think that she wasn't necessary as a love interest, that she could've been just as interesting as a friend.
Sorcha was written like Nehemia to be a turning point for Dorian like how Nehemia was for Celaena. But for some reason Sorcha was not a character that sticks unlike Nehemia, eventhough she was there for a short time she gives deep impression while Sorcha was like meh. And it's weird how Dorian fell really deep for her in my opinion. Coz most of the time they just have this conversations and mostly thinking how Celaena and Nehema was at the same position as Sorcha. It's like He just wanted to protect her because he wasn't able to protect both Nehemia and Celaena.
Ooooh understandable!! I can be the same way. (for example I just bought the entire Seven Realms series + the companion series: Shattered Realms before even reading the first book hahaha)
i love the subtle green under your eyes to match the book!! dat detail doeeee
I'M ACTUALLY SO EXCITED THAT SOMEBODY NOTICED!! You're the best!!!
See, what I always got annoyed with Nehemia at was the absolute certainty that her death would get Celaena to fight. It didn't. It shattered her. I really liked when alien and Rowan fought

Love this. Agree with everything you said. Glad I found someone on booktube who has the same thoughts. I’ll leave it at that lol.
I'm glad you agree 😊
