6 Ways to Change User Account Name in Windows 10
In this video we will take a look changing the user account name of a windows computer, I will show you 6 method to doing this task.
Remember before making any changes to your operating system, its best to make a backup.
I would generally use netplwiz to change or create my user names. These methods can be used on other versions of Windows operating systems like Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 /8.1

Method 6 is the only one that really works for me and when I change it it says the name I changed it to but then resets and goes back to the old name

To those who have already changed your account into a local account a while ago, but want to change your name again. Switch to your Microsoft Account (make one if you haven't) and just switch to local account again. It worked perfectly for me! :D

How do ya change the user name in "C:\Users"... folders!? Twice now its shortened my user name from, install from woodiman... to woodi! But Only in the address bar! The Icons said "Woody Man"... that I didnt put in!!! Windows 10 PRO X64 None of these worked... havent tried the regedit... and using the admin account as in other videos yet! First time I did... I couldnt boot... not even in admin!! Had to reinstall!

Hello Britec 09 there is another way to change User account name. That is Command Prompt way.
For Example:
Run cmd as administrator privilege then type like this
wmic useraccount where name='CurrentName' rename Change_Name
then hit enter. It will change CurrentName to Change_Name.

A successful way that I used was that I searched up netplwiz on the windows search, then I clicked on properties, after that I erased my current account name and put the one that I wanted, then I pressed the x button and it said that I have to sign out to make the changes, and I clicked yes.
And it worked.

I have the latest Windows10, and these solutions ONLY PARTIALLY work! Several of the methods listed are accessible to me, and result in an edit field that allows the name to be changed. I could even go back into the listed Users and see the change. BUT Windows Explorer resolutely refuses to see a different renamed user path on the C: drive, even after a cold reboot. How does one change THAT? It will affect a number of programs and backups I have transferred from my old computer, and make for more work.

Very good video - it is concise and yet provides many possible solutions. Visually, the video is very easy to follow, especially if you've got a second screen - you can actually try the different options "live". Sir, I tried the 4th method and it worked but the next time i am starting my laptop and entering my password it is opening Temporary Profile and says ' we are not able to open your profile please sign out'.
Then sir i signed out then also my it is opening temporary profile only. I am sacred sir that i lost all my previously saved documents and everything saved on the laptop.

grr none worked for me, I purchased laptop second hand and it has the person name at C; prompt when I use the path for files and I want to either see the user name, I do not see local user names, it is 'x'd where I am unable to change anything in there.
