Him having a black drummer and not being racist is like me saying none my ex employers can be racist since they once employed me… at the end of the day, people choose business when it goes with their economic interests

Man was a legit killer. Killed an inmate with his barehands in Manfield Ohio state pen ( Shawshank Redemption prison)in 1965. He got out in 1967. One of the inmates other inmates avoided issues with. Johnny Cash got him the lawyers and an appeal and a release.
Probably one of the most underrated and talented artist you should definitely give him another try. He has many songs that are not X-rated but he is such a poet
Best reaction 😂 crazy thing is I learned this song and others off his X-rated when I was around 8yrs old. They played it at every get together/party the adults had for the longest time. The Three Biggest Lies in the World is the one that stuck with me off that albums. 😂
The first time I heard DAC, I was driving to the family lake home and heard, The Ride. Not knowing the ending and then hearing the ending, and how the Ride came together - I was line whoa. That is some hard ass lyrical writing.
You gotta understand that with folks like David Allan Coe, Rebel Son and others they are considered "Outlaw Country music" this is the only type of country music that will never make it on the radio... Almost like certain underground rap music.
hahah, awesome, classic, off his x-rated hits album, people give him a hard time but have they ever heard Adam Sandler's albums? haha David just wanted to tell stories the same way writers tell stories in movies. He mentioned it once, how it wasn't fair how song writers got hate for telling stories when fiction writers could say whatever they wanted and get no flack for it. He got fed up and..well if you tell DAC, an ex-con, to not do something then he's gonna damn sure do it.
Never heard a song like this before. Sounds like it shudda been on some GTA game. Can imagine rearing through some podunk town in San Andreas with this blaring. Now i don't listen to country music as a general rule (except Townes Van Zandt, who made slower, more somber music) but there's one track that u might like called Highway 40 Blues by Ricky Skaggs, it has a similar tempo to this. It might have been on some game long ago but where ever i heard it, it left an impression
This song is from the album "Nothing sacred". If you look at the wiki for the album you'll get more detailed info, but essentially Shel Silverstein (author of The Giving Tree) suggested he write a parody/ comedic album, and David did. Some of the songs do have racial slurs and are insensitive, but my own opinion is that they're in jest, which doesn't make it okay, but I think makes it understandable. At least in some context. Maybe not, I don't hold the ultimate truth, but I know DAC is a legend and this album is great even without the songs in question.
@@interactivereactions He had a couple albums released as mail order only because of the explicit Lyrics and content. Before the parental advisory label was put on in 1978 you get mail order albums.
This KILLED his career. Dude is a GENIUS song writer, but then he came out with this stuff, and also decided to use the “N” word in his songs, and it killed everything. Not to mention he has a bad rep with venues. I once asked a local concert venue why they wouldn’t bring him in, and they said he was notorious for going through sound check, and everything and then refusing to go on stage until he got another $5k in cash just minutes before the show was supposed to start.
That's because he was an outlaw and didn't care what anyone thought about anything he sang about what he wanted when he wanted.... well till divorce took his rights for 50 years
This did not kill his career he sold more underground records of this than almost any record in history he had to do it himself and yes back in the day nobody really cared about the n-word as much as they do today a lot of people bought that album just because it had a couple of songs on it they liked and yeah there are some crazy people that likes all the songs but he sold God knows how many of these albums
