Bella Ramsey (a.k.a. Ellie) played Lyanna Mormont in GOT. In case you don't remember the character: she was the little girl who is head of House Mormont. After House Bolton is defeated at the Battle of the Bastards, she's the first to declare Jon Snow the King in the North during a gathering of the Northern lords at Winterfell. She is also the little girl who kills the giant (stabs it in the eye) during the Battle of Winterfell. (:

Extremely dark fact: Joel's watch broke when he & Sarah fell to the ground as she got shot. Every time he looks down at his watch he sees the exact time his daughter died.

The fungi was in the food. in the beginning they mention jakarta which is where most of the worlds flour comes from. In the game it said the food was contaminated and that's why everyone got infected. Throughout this episode they don't have pancake mix, they refuse the biscuits, sarah doesn't eat the cookies and they didn't get the cake which in the end saved them.
i didn't realize how many flour-containing items were in that beginning part, sheesh
This is not true and is just a theory which has many problems with it. One of them is how would the fungi even survive in the oven at that temperature, also the old man in the morning was eating them yet he was fine the whole time until he got bit
Edit: can’t believe I Was wrong I’m mouth dropped that they decided to go with the flour yeast being infected but they decided to take out spores!?! Its just outrageous that Joel,tommy or Sarah didn’t eat anything wheat or flour related for like a month or week. I guess maybe it could have been a specific brand but damn this is crazy
@@yoshii9967 I thought the same about how would it survive the heat but who's to say that when the fungus evolved to handle heat above 94 degrees it didn't become extremely heat resistant to temperatures far above 94.
as for why the old man didn't get sick it seems the initial outbreak affected people with already compromised immune systems. the twitchy student appeared to be wearing a medical bracelet.
only reason I like the contaminated flour idea is because without that and without spores how can it ever become a worldwide mass outbreak
@@alsims2007 hm yea I guess it could be a immunity thing but highly doubt it since the fungi in the universe seems highly contagious and to be fair the only person we’ve ever known to be immune would be Ellie.

It's Cordyceps. The same fungus that infected the humans in the game and the show. TLOU world probably have climate change and global warming problems more severe than our world. Luckily Cordyceps only infect insects on our world.
No fungus that affects mammals has the ability to influence behavior in a way that aids transmission. Mammals are highly resistant to fungal infection compared to bacterial or viral (scientists believe thats because fungi and mammals emerged at the same time), and have more complex brains that require far more complex chemical manipulation than the ant-controlling Cordyceps.
In many ways, fungi are more like animals than plants or bacteria.

Fun fact! the whole Prologue with Joel, Sarah, and Tommy, they themselves just barely miss being one of the originally infected. In the games, the way Cordecpys became zoonotic (meaning it crossed over from just infecting animals to infecting humans too) was that grains from South America were contaminated with it. So the Millers being out of pancake mix, them saying no to their neighbor's biscuits, Sarah not wanting any of the cookies, and Joel forgetting the cake avoided them from being some of the initially infected, like the grandma was.
They put it in the series too, when they say Jakarta on the radio, and Jakarta is a leading export of flour
Also Joel was on the Atkins diet, so their already usual diet would be low carb in nature. Carbs typically being gained from things containing flour and other wheat and grains.
The first scene is even scarier when yk the science behind it is real. It works like that on smaller species, but who knows if it evolves too fast. They really did the story justice so far!
I think in a way, it’s proven that fungus can’t infect mammals as easy as ants. Because we both emerged at the same time long ago. Mammal brains and immune system is too advanced for fungus to infect
Probably the best video game adaptation I have ever scene. They did this show justice.

I think this portrayal of society is closer to how it would really play out. You'd have trouble building new shit but you'd also have tons of stuff lying around compared to how many people are left over. Military dictatorship seems pretty much inevitable too.

@@bastard342 Cordyceps infection like TLOU is very unlikely but there's still a possibility of a fungus that infects and kill humans. There won't be bloaters, clickers or even rat king. The infection will make people sick and kill them.

Theres never been a recorded fungus that does anything to humans or any mammal behavior beside incidentally induce seizures like ergotism from wheat fungus, or halucinogenic effects humans induce themselves.
Sarah goes to check on neighbours not just because she's young.
Joel is a single dad that is constantly working late with his brother, even on his birthday, to support their family. Who's watching over her while he's gone? The neighbours. They bake cookies together, she can borrow any discs she would like, she does homework at their place, plays with the dog, and they notice when she hasn't been there for a few days - they're like a second family.
She cares for them, of course she would go check on them. She didn't see what was happening with grandma, and when mr. Adler said "Help me", she went to him despite her fear. I would do the same. It's easy to judge as spectators, but she has no idea what's happening, she only knows something's wrong and she wants to help.

The “zombies” in the last of us aren’t zombies. Zombies are reanimated dead people that feed on the living. The infected in tlou aren’t reanimated it’s a cordyceps (fungus) that attacks the host keeping it alive to spread and infect more people. This means the host is still alive and aware of what is happening without any control of what they do. So far this aspect hasn’t been explored in the show but in the game you can hear some of the runners (first stage of infection) crying because that’s pretty much all they have control over but even then it’s just a noise they make.
Zombies aren't real so any classification doesn't matter. The head term is infected and zombie is essentially just a nickname for it, like Walker, Zed, Spitter, Sprinters, Clickers etc. They're modifications of the head "infected person" we don't need an essay in it brother

It’s a different ball game in this fictional world which is the last of us. He’s right the people in THIS FICTIONAL UNIVERSE are still alive but have no control, that’s why there not actually zombies, cus zombies are undead creatures, that’s literally the textbook definition of a zombie.
But nonetheless it’s obviously still okay to call them zombies for the sake of it, I’m do that a lot myself. But fact of show is they aren’t actually zombies. It’s just to let people know, extra info is all.

I doubted the casting for Joel and Ellie but ngl, they're both nailing it so far. I'm only iffy about Tess' casting, she comes off as naggy than a badass in the original game. Tess in game always stayed cool and was concise and clear when she spoke, it's sad that they didn't place in the scenes with her just headshotting people if they were wasting her time. She's always on the clock and working towards the next thing

Marlene was friends with Ellie's mom, who died when Ellie was just a baby. Marlene dropped Ellie off at the FEDRA orphanage because they could take care of her and keep her safe...something that Marlene couldn't do as a revolutionary fighter. She had no idea that Ellie would end up being special, and probably thought she'd never see her again.
I absolutely loved the pilot episode! I'm usually hesitant about video games being adapted to movies/shows but this looks like it's gonna be a great series

The fungus zombie isn't actually a new idea, but it is creepy af since it seems more plausible than a virus. There's a really good book/decent movie called The Girl With All the Gifts where the zombies are caused by fungus. The zombies in World War Z are caused by fungus, too.

You're right, it came out a year earlier. But the book is based off a short story that came out a year earlier than the game. So it seems like they were coming up with the same idea at the same time. I didn't last the game, but I did read the book, so the book was my reference point just like this show mashes it fell new to some of these dudes. And I'm sure a lot of us knew about the ants thing before both. Good premise, either way

The second dude pointed out so many things and so on point, and I personally speculate that the child in the red might have also been immune cause we dont know how long that child was walking around with that cut as to why that scene was there, couldve have been days and the wound would still be kinda fresh or blood could just have coagulated over, but seeing as they were infected, the child has to die they are not taking any risks, since they tied the child up as well for their "safety". So yeah seeing anyone in the red puts a fear in peoples hearts and first thought it get rid of them. If Ellie wasnt quick with her explanation guaranteed they would of shot her themselves out there.
If you notice the papers they are using is old notebook paper and receipts and shit they literally don’t have paper mills that’s also why he wanted to keep the ziploc they can’t make anything but the bear necessities
