I think the coolest thing that was mentioned was that the 80's song being played over on the radio at the end of the first episode was Bill and Frank's Radio transmission being looped with no one to stop it. Which indicates they were already dead by the first episode..
Looking at the food on the plates at the end, it seems to be under a month before they arrived there.
I rewatches ep 1 with a friend and seeing the song at the end start to play hits so much harder now…
I think for about a month they were dead. Pretty sure the letter was written in august, and then the show picked back up 20 years later in September
I know I picked up on that. I love how each episode connects through little details like that
Gosh I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that:)
"To survive you need more than essential things, you need love"
True and real. I saw someones comment on another video saying how "Bill knew how to survive, Frank knew how to live".
I personally like to think that the show was the "good" ending for Bill where he and Frank make up after fighting while the game was the "bad" ending where Bill loses Frank and gets even more paranoid.
The way Bill and Frank went out, that's possibly the best ending anyone can wish for in that post-apocalyptic world
@@SirStrugglesAlot Yep. Dying of old age (or old age issues) basically in a world full of sh...t. Amazing luck. Although I'd even favor living in a semi-oppressive QZ that manages to run till the end of time as long as some rough balance is there.
Absolutely! and I see a lot of people saying them dying was not a good rep of LGBTQ but it really is. I mean THEY GET TO BE IN LOVE, the whole time, and they're doing stuff together and for each other. They're living in their gated paradise with a boutique, and a house and it's beautiful. They make it pretty, they grow food, and they're eating gourmet meals. Not surviving but thriving and they're LIVING. Bill and Frank are this hope of growing old and being content with it, that most people don't get to see in an apocalypse. I think that's the best thing about it.
This
@@cristinaestrella I love this ep, but let's be honest, HBO love killing the gays... tell me the last time you see hollywood killing an out/canon lesbian?? ppl consider WLW victory as more palatable than MLM... thx to the male gaze and patriarchy... but as long as the strong lesbian made it, they're pro lgbt right?? 🙄😒
The good old "i will never cry if i make funny of everything in every moment of my life" strategy.
Comedy is a great defense mechanism against tragedy.
You know I appreciate seeing young men (of color) express compassion when it pertains to storylines involving lgbtqia characters. I’m so use to seeing constant bashing and phobia that when seeing straight men actually express emotion its refreshing. It gives me hope for humanity
Real shit tho
This is worst episode 🤮🤮🤮🏳️🌈
This is worst episode 🤮🤮🤮🏳️🌈
The majority of straight guys don't get heated over seeing an LGBTQIA character. It's only annoying when they shoehorn LGBT characters into shows which didn't exist in the source material. This episode was some of the most touching television I've seen in years
@@andrebr1148 most of what I’ve seen as far as reactions when it centers on same sex love it’s been immature, obnoxious rude comments and insults coming from straight guys. Maybe it’s the era we live in nowadays were it’s kinda acknowledged now but not necessarily accepted were it’s not foreign to see it but homophobia still remains. I’m just glad to see straight dudes engage in these moments without ridicule
How did you guys NOT pick up on it before the kiss? Bill be eye-f-ing him since he climbed up the ladder. He even flipped his friggin'hair at dinner. The flirt game was strong.
LITERALLY 😭
🤣 maybe their gaydar is off a bit, I’ve seen quite a few other reactors not catch on either lol
@@Oakland510 Bill said he’d been with a girl one time, long ago. I think the implication is he tried it once, and then knew he didn’t like it.
And the wine pour 😂😭 he was going all out.
Lmaoooo they miss a lot of things tbh. Rob's questions for instance...like I cannot 😂 And they are heterosexual males I think that played a part as well.
Patrick "he became the man of the house" we all started laughing lol
I mean it is pretty funny how Frank was essentially the chick in a relationship. Down to the nagging over dumb stuff like painting a house LOL
@@nukiesduke6868 He was a painter so it kinda makes sense he paid attention to stuff like that.
I loved this story. Frank showed Bill how to really live and accept love in an ugly world. 20 years in the apocalypse and you got to be safe, eat food, shower, love another person... They really won. I definitely think what Frank was asking is extremely hard to put on someone but staying alive in a body that is betraying you? That's miserable too. I think Bill understood that eventually.
I LOVE THIS RESPONSE!!!!
not quite 20 years together, but, true enough.
@@Reblwitoutacause well yeah but still 20 years for them both even if they didn’t spend 4 years together
Nick Offerman killing it per usual
@@Oakland510 not always. Velma 🤢
Absolutely. He's still always going to be Ron Swanson to me but omg did he absolutely kill it here. Very much expecting some awards for this episode and show in general come September.
@@Oakland510 Right. That shit is nonexistent. And compared to the *massive* list of top tier shows HBO has The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Oz etc. Velma isn't doing anything to tarnish them at all. Every network has that ONE show lml.
@@Oakland510 You know what I have to agree. As much as I rock with both Netflix and Amazon they can be quite the miss sometimes instead of the hits. Netflix in particular be cancelling shows at random. Don't know what that's about. Amazon took a huge L with the LotR not for nothing. All that money spent on the show and...yikes.
he’s so amazing
"I'll top you for a five day stay" LMAO!!! Fair deal, really.

Rob telling Evan to listen up at the end but he be asking too many questions like he wasn’t paying attention.😂
When overdosing there is a slight fear that sets in when your body does what its not supposed to do or doesnt feel normal, it depends on what the body is doing and what you have took, there can be some pain, or painless and you can drift off to sleep. As someone who has tried suicide via pills there is the heart racing then slow down and then the drifting off.
And yes Bill was an asshole in the game, he told Joel to get rid of Ellie, not to be held back by anyone and be alone, and there Joel realized he didnt want to become Bill in the game version. In the show., Bill showed that even in a hard shitty world, you can find someone to love and protect. Two different stories same outcome.

@RT TV,
18:24 I can't help but feel that you're missing the lesson Frank is teaching Bill, how to live!
Bill has been surviving all his life, trying to be the person his family wanted and just not fitting in--he tried being with a woman and he learned that wasn't for him. Rejected by society, he turned to conspiracy theories since they don't push anyone way. And we can see that he thrived in that, as there teachings allowed him to have what he has now.
Bill has been surviving his whole life, and the man is miserable. He wants to continue on, but for what?
Frank's the complete opposite of Bill, he's lived a life, free to be the person he is. But what he wants is hard to come by in this new world, and that's to survive. Lucky for him, he fell in Bill's trap. He scored big when Bill started courting him--that's how he knew. Bill didn't have to let him take a shower, but he did. Bill didn't have to give him new clothes, but he did. Bill didn't have to prepare a 3 star Michelin meal, but he did. Bill didn't have to break out the fine china and silverware, but he did. Bill didn't have to give this man a glass of fine wine, but he did. Bill didn't have to offer this man a second helping, but he did. Bill didn't have to sit down and play this man a song, but he did. Bill didn't just play this man a song, he let his guard down and showed Frank what he was filling--did you guys miss Bill tossing his hair to the side while Frank ate? Frank didn't! Bill was dropping signals and Frank picked them all up.
Frank is happy to have Bill’s protection, and Frank is desperate to give something back to Bill in return. What do you give to a man that can do everything? Something he's never had, the gift of actually living.
Bill never had friends, and he never really had friends over or had a conversation with people because he wanted to. He was rejected by society, so he closed himself off. Frank is helping Bill to open back up and experience a life free from judgment. Bill was in his 50s when the outbreak started in 2003, and while LGBTQ+ rights have been on a roll lately, they weren't in 2003, and for a man in his 50s, he lived a life when that wasn't accepted. Bill lived his life in the closet up to this point.
Anyway, Bill was surviving, not living. Frank wants Bill to live, now that he can.
That gun Frank traded was important at the time of purchase, but isn't really now. Bill built a fortress that cannot be beaten, and he has more guns than anyone who'll come for his own. Bill is self sufficient, but he's missing out on the smaller things that add up to big things, the things that make memories. The things that you'd actually want to fight for...a reason to survive. Why survive if you aren't going to live?
So he basically was a gay incel
Buddy wrote a whole essay to explain the gay love 😂
@@mikeross6336 no, love.
"Yo, he punked him. He became the man of the house."

This was an emotional episode haven't cried so much since negan's lucille backstory in the walking dead.
12:54 😂 That was a 10/10 joke by Pat
26:25 any type of downer, like opiates or benzos will cause a peaceful deletion. The only time it's painful is when people don't take enough of it to do the deed so the stuff in them like acetaminophen, which is tylenol wrecks your liver and stomach causing intense stomach pain (from a failing liver. Acetaminophen (Main thing in Tylenol) WRECKS your liver if taking a lot. Acetaminophen is basically in most pain pills not only does it help with preventing people from abusing them (too much acetaminophen makes you super sick and you throw up) but it also helps the opiate work better. In the case of ODing on them when you take that many you essentially get high as a kit then your breathing gets slower and ultimately stops. An opiate overdose basically sends you into respiratory arrest. So you quite literally just drift off to deletion. Very peaceful way to go. That's one of the main reasons Bill said "enough to kill a horse" because any less leaves you with a bad time.
Finally, I thought you weren't gonna upload this 😭
When they were talking about the wine and rabbit pair Frank was feeling out BIll probably, he's way more experienced doing this in his past life.
Also it's implied that since the first lunch with joel, they've been working together, the strawberry seeds were 3 years from the first time they met. So it's not because of the raiders attack
You're correct..on the TLOU podcast Craig said that frank knew as soon as he got out of the hole. He's just that good at seeing through a person
And that who's the girl was like a confirmation to make sure he says it on his own
“She’s trying to get the antidote” DAWG😭
Bill had like 30 guns I think he could spare a pistol for the greatest fruit
Nah greatest fruit is grapes
When it says 10 miles west of Boston that is actually a shot of Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada near Sheep River Falls. The whole show was shot all over Alberta, Canada.
So Frank had some condition (he even said there was no cure before the world went to shit) like Parkinson's, MS, or other progressive degenerative disease process happening, the amount of pain and suffering as the disease worsened would be tremendous. We see a little of this with how hard Frank is trying to paint and even a few almost clumsy-like brush strokes leave him worn out. I do absolutely understand the moral, ethical, and heartbreaking dilemma of what is being asked of Bill with Frank's request; do I help my partner end their agony? do I refuse and have them live on in agony? I do not envy Frank's suffering nor Bill's heartbreak.
If Frank's meds were narcotics (since Joel was selling "hardcore drugs" in the QZ, I am going to assume they were) and were crushed (which would make them act more quickly since they would be more digested at a faster rate especially with the alcohol which is also a depressant to further speed up the process), the medication would make them very sleepy. As they fell asleep, their respirations would get slower and slower since the factors that play into what we call "the respiratory drive" (the body's natural reaction to keep breathing to maintain a normal level of oxygen in the body, etc. science stuff) would be suppressed with large amounts of narcotics.
Bill and Frank would fall asleep in roughly 20 to 60 minutes (and that's being generous with the longer time frame), their breathing would get slower and slower, their heart rate would similarly slow down, and since the meds would suppress the body's natural tendencies to increase respirations and heart rate to stay alive, they would die in a very gentle way (given that the dose was high enough, potent enough, and they drank enough alcohol to also have that added benzo buff).
Given all the awful way characters die in these types of stories, the fact that they not only survived, but also lived a full life together and went out on their own terms together while also serving to further Joel & Ellie's journey is such a powerful storyline because we don't often if ever see that type of ending for characters we enjoy watching. And seeing all the awful ways in which people can and do die, falling asleep in my lover's arms one last time as my body slowly shuts down without me feeling it and just going on to whatever comes next is something many people hope is their way to go out, even without a fungal apocalypse happening. 💙
"I'm not like you I'm not gonna dwell on the past, I'ma keep it going."
That's exactly what Joel's been doing. Running from his past, never stopping to heal or process. It ain't good for the mental bro. Eventually your body won't let your mind keep getting away with it.
So a lot of people wonder why bill was standing in the middle of the road. The theory (and it’s a good theory) is that a deer tripped the cameras so bill went to go hunt it, but it was the raiders that scared the deer inwards in the first place. So by the time bill got out there and the raiders tripped the fence, he was pushed back into his town. And he started taking shots before he was able to run and find cover. The evidence supporting this is bill is in full hunting gear with a hunting knife on his belt. He also was only equipped with a hunting rifle, which I’m sure he’d bring a more dangerous weapon like a machine gun to deal with raiders. He was geared to go hunting
Finally! Been waiting for this.
I would’ve done the same as Bill in that situation and honestly, I’d probably do the same as Frank. After seeing multiple family members fight against terminal illnesses and seeing the heartbreak that everyone around them is put through, I’ve already made up my mind that if I ever get something like Alzheimer’s, cancer, MS, etc., I’m leaving on my own terms. Would much rather have the people I love remember me as I was, rather than remembering me at my lowest (only memories I have of my grandmother and aunt are when they were incredibly sick since I was pretty young when they passed and it sucks only having old photos to try to remember them at their best.)
Also, y’all had me dying when Frank and Bill first got together, easily one of the best reactions I’ve seen for this episode so far! 🤣💕
Literally everyone who has lost someone to suicide will disagree with you on it sparing them heartbreak. Can we stop romanticizing people killing themselves? It's not heroic, it's not noble, it's only selfish.
@@elite7329 Well, honestly, it's a bit unfair to call someone selfish for deciding to go out with more control over the situation when they're on their death bed (like terminal illness). No one is romanticizing anything. It's tough all the way around. But, they have a right to be selfish. They're dying, not you. It's about them, not you. If I were Frank, I would seriously consider it. If I were Bill, I would be heartbroken regardless.
I see Rob is already using face-paint, now he just needs the clown nose and his look will be complete!
When he said Ellie was trying to “get the antidote” when she went up to the infected oh man

This was a fan favorite episode of the series, it had everyone emotional like it was beautiful yet sad and relatable in so many ways.
I think Bill stood out in the open in the gunfight to draw all of the raiders to him and not look for another way trough the defenses, imo.
Frank suffered from Parkinson's.
He told Bill to slip him them pills in his drank and clap them cheeks for the last time like he used to do.
Lmao Pat cracks me up hahaha.
Everyone who hasn’t played yet has been completely caught off guard lmfaooooo
I knew it when he pored the wine
When I first watched this episode o agreed with everyone that bull not shooting from cover in the open was stupid and out of charachter. Then i realized on the third watch.... he's drawing there fire away from frank. If he shoots from the house with cover the raiders shoot up the house and frank might get hit. If he shoot sfeom somewhere else and he's hidde...they might shoot the house a a primary target and hit frank. The only way he could be sure he knows where the bullets are heading is to make himself a target. So he runs away and across the streets and opens fire and makes himself the obvious target. Even when he's being stupid he's being smart. And so fucking brave
Fav reaction 😂
I'd say ODing on pain killers is the definition of a painless death.
Not if you do it wrong. Them having full stomachs was a bad idea. Might vomit and aspirate or might decrease the efficiency of the pills. Taking them all at once increases the vomiting risk too. Should have spaced them out. Body will know something is wrong and if you get the physical reactions before you drift off, it’s not gonna be a fun time.
That’s why medical euthanasia should be legalized so it can be done safely for those suffering terminally.
How tf do you watch a show w 5 people talking the entire time?
