The amp in these are really powerful, i am driving a high power 12'' subwoofer with it and it works very good.

actually have 3 of these drivers laying around. The woofes ive planned to use in an l-port designed box. and The transformer that comes in those are just AWESOME cause all ya gotta do is connect the orange and yellow one to a speaker. sending 40 volts through it and frying it. it puts up quite a show!

The subwoofer driver itself isn't bad, but the internal amplifier and undersized box could be much improved on.
The amplifier has a built-in subsonic filter that basically filters out any frequency below 40 Hz.
This in turn makes the subwoofer sound rather poor.
Would be awesome to make a custom subwoofer out of one of those. Build a proper box and upgrade the amplifier to a much higher quality one
That's false, It starts filtering from 20hz down, and it stops moving completely at around 5hz. Only thing it keeps it from going lower than 40hz is the shitty box.
This is also not true. Below 30 Hz it starts to drop in power, but below 40 Hz it plays without issue in this box. Usually the room acoustics are an obstacle

Not better than a 20$ sub are you kidding? The tang band driver I already waaayyyy more expensive than 20 $. This sub goes very deep and is very nicely tuned.... It's not because it's written Logitech that it's a bad sub... Many Logitech subs are insane

I used mine to power DIY 6" 2-way bookshelf speakers in College. Sounded really good once you upgraded the satellite speakers it came with.
Yeah the satellite speakers were pretty forward to my tastes. The sub and amp were fine. Made a nice little 2.1 system for my dorm room.

@@corens1033 my dad and I built our own boxes and crossovers. Had a 6" midbass driver and 2" cone tweeter. Believe the midbass were old radio shack drivers my dad had laying around. Everything else was ordered from Parts Express.

Seriously, the woofers aren't all that bad but Logitech has a terrible habit of creating the subwoofer boxes out of extremely thin MDF, and using full-range drivers for their satellites without any forms of tweeters. Absolute BS. My 2003 Altec Lansings have tweeters.

I've had one of these for over a decade and have had many other subs as well and surprisingly this sub outperformed some of the lower end home theatre subs I've had lmao(like the polk psw10 and some of the yamahas etc). The satellites are pretty trash though. I got rid of those and used to use just the sub with other gear I had at the time lol

They have a nearly religious fan base-because they produces oodles of volume and bass (you can power a house party with them) but unlike it's successor the Z623, the Z-2300 is also really well made, as you found out from dismantling it. I bought my Z-2300's 5 years ago and they were used back then and they've never given me a problem
the pipe background you had on the tv screen brought back some memories from like 2005 when i was like 5 and loved watching it on my parents computer screen. i had completely forgot it existed
To my surprise. There's some good quality guts in it. Toroid transformer, proper rectifier, big caps, etc.

That was the problem with this system the subwoofer was overpowered and the satellites were usually the first to go
godisgoodallthetime yea that’s the problem with Logitech. They tend to put an amp that overpowers the subs and satellites .

At the end you said "it does't sound that good." To be quite honest I am not surprised since you smashed the case apart and removed the bass port before you listened to it. I seem to think that is somewhat of an unfair statement.
I think it's fair, it's a relatively basic sub you can get anywhere for $20. It was revolutionary because it was sold as a turnkey PC speaker system, where 99% of everything is total dogshit. It even has RCA so you aren't stuck with their mediocre satellites. I have the 5.1 version, and I'm happy with it, but it's very much entry level in the world of floor-shaking subs.

@@yogenpradhan7503 For a PC-style split system maybe. A pair of bookshelf speakers for $100 will give much better sound and for some even more boomy bass. The big issue is putting them on your desk, of course, which is why split systems are popular.

Dont often use my z2300 but i've never bottomed it out and thats including pushing it pretty hard. I'd come into issues with neighbours complaining about volume before having issues with the sub not being loud enough and tbf for the money, the quality isnt bad
Also your point about car audio? Who tf uses it in a car ahahaha! Christ sake if u want a car audio sub go get one for that purpose and get a box built not some janky adapter or smth

Hey, look at the size of that transformer mounted externally from the amplifier module! Seems right next to the voice coil as it moves back and forth... why the hell not? I love how they have that, what looks like a metal plate to shield it... but they put it right there lol. Is that a common design choice?

Can't wait till you start messing with some bad boy stuff. 2” and above VC cast comp subwoofers. Plus would love to see what a subwoofer would do if you sent 250 + hz at 1000w power. Lots of noise and smoak haha

i had the z5500 back then i upgraded the stock speakers it came with to some old pioneer floor speakers i had it used to rock the house the subwoofers were the only decent thing about them

Yeah, Logitechs higher end models like the z2300 or z5500 are pretty good. I just ordered a z5500 for 85 dollars. will be a nice upgrade for my room surround sound.

Honestly Logitech does make very good subwoofer/speaker drivers. This subwoofer held up power due to it is 8 Ohms. And the satellites are 8 ohms as well for this subwoofer.
Higher ohms are better also.
You should make a tube amp just to blow speakers with it

Great job, open the Logitech Z-2300 Subwoofer amplifier plate using a hammer and screwdriver, inside there is a subwoofer amplifier module.
