    Maybe design intent- why penalize a light oil ball for working best in light oil conditions. Or penalize a strong smooth ball for working best in heavy oil.
    I typically want to know where a ball fits in my bag and how well does it do that job

  • @KevinEvans513

    I like the rating system especially keeping house and sport shot separate. You should create a flow chart with all of the balls, categories and rankings and update as new balls are released. Give an end of year update on this too.

  • @MagicJ337
    @MagicJ337 5 місяців тому +2

    For the rating system, I think looks should be weighted less than the other categories. Like only maybe 5 points. And while having the sport category separate from the house is cool, considering you haven’t thrown many of them on sport shots, it doesn’t hold a lot of weight, and should probably also be weighted less

  • @nevinkinzel
    @nevinkinzel 5 місяців тому +9

    I think too many of these are subjective based on your preferences and how you throw the ball. Performance doesn't tell us anything when you have strong solids and mid-range pearls with the same performance. It doesn't say anything about the characteristics of the ball (strength/where it hooks, motion/shape). It just tells us if you liked it (same with shelf appeal).

    I liked this idea bro. Will you do it for every ball review(like towards the outro) or is this a quarterly type thing youre thinkin of?

  • @dennisbeck2521
    @dennisbeck2521 5 місяців тому +14

    I don't think the ball's score should be affected based on if it is the same colors as a sports team that you like.
    I'd vote to leave the appearance section out of it.

    • @lennythotran
      @lennythotran 5 місяців тому

      I agree. A nice-looking ball with mediocre performance shouldn’t be the same score as a boring looking ball with amazing performance. But if anything, at least lower the max score for appearance, like only to 5 points, or make it a few bonus points instead.

    • @BigDangerous311

      Not only that but looks of a ball are so subjective. Like for me I don't much care for flamboyant and bright colored balls like the hyper venom and optimum idol, they just aren't my style. But some people like the look of a lavender or bright pink ball.

  • @ianhoneycutt3858

    I would personally go with 1) Shelf Appeal, 2) How early it is, 3) How sharp it is (if its a 2 or something it's like the !Q Tour Solid which is unbelievable smooth and round. And all the thane balls would be 2 or 1), 4) how versatile it is, and 5)House/6)Sport shot ratings. Ik it's 6 rating scales, but I think this would be better

    Even though everyone’s play styles are different, this video is pretty informative. I’m currently trying to fine tune my bag, and it’s so hard because of the amount of product that gets pushed out. I wish Storm would have more demo days throughout the year to be able to test to see what works best.

    I like this rating system. It shows how much you like them and what you think about them for different uses. Something to take into consideration. It is just good to know how other people like them.
    Would love to see this rating system with the ACTIVE SPI balls from 2023 or even before? No need the discontinued one. Cause there are still good balls out there that I'm considering getting. Cause this is different then your favorite balls of the year.
    Appreciate all the content you put out!

    Great rating video Luis. It gives folks more of idea of where these pieces stand in overall ranking when looking for a ball to fill a gap. The categories are good. 👍

    I’m surprised you gave the optimum idol such a low score for versatility and house shot. It’s like the perfect benchmark ball. Can be used on any pattern and is extremely controllable.
    I get that it isn’t the best when you have to open up the angles, but it has such a perfect shape for a house shot because it will always hold inside and always come back from outside with that classic symmetric smooth shape. And it just carries everything.

  • @on1st
    @on1st 5 місяців тому +8

    Looks is very subjective. How about replacing that with Value- being a combination or price/ performance & looks.

  • @addictedTobowling
    @addictedTobowling 5 місяців тому +9

    If I’m not mistaken you had the optimal idol and attention Star 1A n 1B not too many videos ago. Now u saying they not as good (attention Star). Kinda hard to buy a ball based on ur opinion when u do this. I been a suscriber for a few years so i like ur content. So don’t take this the wrong way. Just giving u my opinion on wat i see. Not a hater. I watch ur videos and live stream on Tuesdays. U one of my go to for ball reviews so i do go based on wat u have to say. Have bought balls based on this.

    • @chrisleeleslie

      Best way to go is to go to demo days, if possible. Dark Code is one of my favorite balls and Luis hates it 😂

    • @stormb28
      @stormb28 5 місяців тому +5

      He has to sell out and hype balls. Everything is awesome, then when a new ball comes out that’s the best one. Just disingenuous all the way around. That’s how “content creators” get paid though. So I get it. It’s been disappointing watching his “sell out” over the years.

    • @malus7410
      @malus7410 5 місяців тому +1

      Don't be to harsh, he did admit it's his own fault for surface changes upon lane shine. He's on the low end of revs probably clocking in between 300 to 350 while his speed is high so surface can be an issue of you adjust wrong. I'm sure hype and money can play a roll, but it's also fair to have your opinions change 4 months after release.
      I really like my attention star but I'm high rev with a medium speed bowler it hits like a truck when you can get the core working.

    • @addictedTobowling
      @addictedTobowling 5 місяців тому +2

      @@malus7410 i don’t think I’m harsh. My revs around the same as Luis which is why i enjoy watching his videos. I bought the Star and Idol for my sons who are two handed and they love both of them. I also watch other reviews from other ppl and most say the attention and idol are best releases this year. But i agree u can start out loving a ball then things change and u don’t feel the same way anymore.

    The look category seems to be a little more personal rating. Depending the users preference. Although I like you thought of uniqueness.
    Performance is great.
    House and sport shot ratings are awesome.
    In the future I would like to see you revamp a usability callous. Maybe or maybe not connected to this rating. Rev dominate/speed dominate/consistency/high or low tilt usability. Up ten versus hook the lane. More or less continuous. Some balls run out easier and others seem like they will never quite.

    I feel as though your rating system is too subjective, and giving a cumulative score could give less knowledgeable bowlers that one ball is better than all the rest, when in reality, it may not be the best for them.
    That said, these are the categories I would use with no cumulative score.
    1. Reaction shape. Could be a 1-5, 1 being the smoothest and 5 being the sharpest off the end of the pattern.
    2. Length. 1 being the earliest, 5 being the latest
    3. Versatility. 1 being the least usable on a variety of conditions, 5 being most versatile. Benchmarks would be more towards the 5 end, chalk like your OG gem and entry level balls like the surges would lose points.
    4. House shot effectiveness. Some balls exploit house shots better than others, but this could be a subjective category. Maybe good for fresh and wetter house shots, or better on dryer or higher friction lane surfaces.
    5. Sport shot effectiveness. Again, this is subjective. Maybe give what patterns the ball could be useful on.
    6. Overall strength. This goes hand in hand with length and versatility, but how much oil can the ball handle? 1-5 with 5 being the most oil.
    This system will let more educated people compare ball to ball without bias and maybe help less educated people learn a little bit about how ball reactions differ.
