    I've been bowling competitively for over 20 years and the one mistake I see daily at my local alley is league bowlers always focused on their scores. That's probably the worst thing you can do if you want to get better. The best advice I can give anyone is learn to adapt don't stick with one ball and learn to make your hooking balls your spare balls, learn to throw it slower or faster depending on the lane condition. What has made me a bowler that averages 230 is the ability to adapt and not get caught up with the scores, the scores are a result of your consistency. Sure pay attention to them, but not in practice, practice should be the arena where you throw all sorts of ways and see what works, throw shots that makes you have to pick up spares. Not trying to detract from this video, but the thing that helps me most is understanding angles and ball reaction, if you can visualize that ball hitting the pocket and can bring it into the physical game you will be golden.

    • @stompingpeak2043
      @stompingpeak2043 2 місяці тому

      My biggest thing is just looking at how the ball goes through the pins. If it keeps going left after hitting you're golden and will strike a buttload. If it hits and goes straight back you'll still strike alot but get a few ring 10s here and there. Then if it hits and has any deflection at all you will struggle to strike no matter what.

    That's my biggest issues is lane transition. I can dial it in on our house pattern and throw 5-6-7 strikes and then I start missing. I keep moving left to get it back into the pocket and end up leaving 7's and 10's, so I"m constantly moving and never get comfortable. I'd love for you guys to give some pointers for league bowlers and dealing with lane transition on house shots.

      Staying ahead of the transition is the hardest part of bowling. What I do for a house pattern is I move every other shot on that lane, anticipating that the oil pattern has changed. I'm a lefty, so a 1/1 move, which is 1 board right with my feet and 1 board left with my eyes. Once I have gotten too steep for comfort, I will change balls, then start over again, resetting my feet and eyes, then start all over again. The night is usually over by the 3rd ball change. Hope this helps

    • @scoutpack1518
      @scoutpack1518 2 місяці тому +2

      Either ball change so you have more miss room, or a nice little tip is move 2 left with your feet and 1 right with your eyes on a house shot. This way you can get a new look all together that you haven't played on. So know your equipment and try to stay ahead of transition so you aren't getting those ten pins a lot. Good luck bud :)

      What’s happening is a little oil is carrying down move to the right a board or two a couple shots and tighten angles for about 4 frames of a five man team then it’ll go back to normal usually I find

  • @runnerboy6886
    @runnerboy6886 2 місяці тому +6

    In competition, when you are moving pairs, how many shots are you going to "test" on the next pair to get lined up? I hope the answer is 2-3 shots and you're watching the other players ball motion between your shots and you've scouted the pair before you threw your first shots.

    I enjoyed this video quite a bit. Very informative. I like how you started with just the length of the pattern, used the practice process and honed in on the best shot for it per your bowling style. I would have liked the actual pattern info that was laid down at the end to compare to what shot you decided on and what end ball (and its layout) to go with it. That would give us the comparison and information we would need to adjust for our particular styles. Awesome Video and content...THANKS!

    I appreciate this type of video, league mates always say watch the pros and copy from there. The pros don't say out loud what is going through their head and the process of figuring out the lane aka why I don't watch often as I have to depict what's in their head and decipher from there. You guys are the best!

    What I did to figure out how to line up I used my unique style that I call a golf bag of styles. I copied the styles of a lot of professional bowlers like Mark Roth, Earl Anthony, Dick Weber, Marshall Holman, etc... I would usually use Holman or one of the other pros that I had a easier time to cut the loft down to where I had the smallest amount of loft possible and still get a good shot. If I needed either Wayne Webb or Carmen Salvinio to throw the ball slower because the lanes are very oily and I just had a hard time lining up with my other styles. Then if the lanes were dry I would use some of the mid range shots like Walter Ray Williams J-r, Nelson Burton Jr., etc... Then I used Dick Weber and the rest to handle the driest lanes in order to get the best results. I always started with the second arrow.

    What would be Kyle's move after the right side is burnt out? A move left puts you in Brad's line and could cause your ball to hook even more. Would you switch balls and stay right, get into Brad's line, or change balls and move way left?

    can you explain what "cleaner cover" means?

    • @scottpatton8806
      @scottpatton8806 2 місяці тому

      A bowling ball with a "cleaner cover" is usually a ball with a pearlized or solid surface that has high number surface grit which makes them shinier to reduce the gripping ability of the ball to get down the lane. These balls delay the mid-lane hook so they will read the lane more on the back end, less in the front. They are used more when the lanes are drier or burnt up (later in league, tournaments, on shorter oil patterns, and tougher sport patterns.
