In 2008 I lost my job in a soulless factory job and I was a floundering scared mess. I listened to this song and realized I was not a machine to make money, but a person that can benefit the sphere I inhabit. I went to school to become a teacher and now I teach middle school biology. I make about half what I made in the factory and my hours are often longer. Best decision the fixx helped me make! Soul no longer empty. Ty
gdub454 my opinion is I believe MTV was the foundation that brought Alot of music to the radio that we listen to and vote for like the Fixx and other groups that are still around today
Watching this in 2025, timeless! At 2:36, that guy looks like Trump, that's crazy prophetic! 😮 I'm a fan of this band for over 40 years, yes I'm a proud Fixxture ❤😊
Incredible. This was the best song they'd done since "One Thing Leads To Another" and radio airplay in 1991 could only push this to #35 on the charts. Goes to show that timely, relevant songs get knocked to the ground by radio programmers in favor of pop pap. Some things never change. Rick in South Omaha
It was the era of Alt. Rock and grunge. Despite how talented many artists from 80s new wave era were. They carried a sort of stigma and it was hard for them to reinvent themselves and adapt to new sounds.
For the longest time I was under the impression that this is by Simple Minds. I was very happy to learn it is by the Fixx because I like them much more.
This great band always underrated but at the same time, especially in these days, very, very relevant. Way ahead of the rest in all aspects of music creativity and form. One of the true elite to stand or fall.
That's what I love about the Fixx they always found a way to work it... as a band they just found how to work with each other and just wrote great music for decades... Jamie West Oram is a terribly underrated guitarist
Felt like getting deep and real with a band called The Fixx today. A lot of wisdom and life realizations can happen with music when it's not only for commerce. "How Much Is Enough" is from 1991 and it hit me like a hammer when I was 21. Growing up in the 80s we were brainwashed with consumerism and your whole self-worth was determined by what you had. But like the very wise words of Cy Curnin in this song says, How much is enough when your soul is empty?. How music is enough in the land of plenty when you have all you want (like I was grown up having...look at my record, tape, and CD collection) and you still feel nothing at all? Not only this song leads to life realizations but also this video of it. There's a lot of imagery that will speak to somebody in this video along with lyrics and the music itself that will inspire intense feelings that will make you think. Some parts of the video, The Fixx lead singer, Cy Curnin, dresses up as the demon that convinces you to keep buying more and more to cover up how miserable you are and then drag you down even further into a hurting, empty abyss. This piece of music made me realize how empty life was when I was 21 but it took my best friend, Robin, to pull me out of an empty life (this is represented in the music by what I think is a key change that switches to a higher pitch that seems to suggest that there is hope). I believe there's nothing wrong with 'entertainment music' but I do hold 'thinking of the heart and soul' music in very high regard. Would love to meet The Fixx and buy them all a drink as a way to say 'thanks for the brain music'.
I am so glad I am not the only person to appreciate this wonderful song and band, I think INK is their best album, I saw them on the INK tour, 1991.......Greenville, SC still have the tee shirt, it is about to fall apart, but my INK CD still sounds Fantastic. It was a standing room only sort of venue, I stood back far enough to see and hear them, despite a poor turnout they played like they were playing to thousands. Wish they had booked Charlotte. A very under rated album, the production is excellent. All the songs fit into the theme, Bravo guys for pulling out songs from INK. 👏👏👏You are the only Band I can think of with the Classic lineup. Says a lot about you, speaks volumes.
How much is enough when your soul is empty? how much is enough in the land of plenty? when you have all you want and still feel nothing at all, how much is enough?🎶-by the Fixx. 🖖☮️🎶
I have never seen this video. Knew the song, this portrayal sync perfectly with my simple interpretation of lyrical message. I can see why it didn't get attention; Too Truthful and Prophetic about these days. LETS REINTRODUCE IT AND MAKE #1 World wide...please? ;-)
The Fixx, with their 80's lineup intact, finally released their new CD "Beautiful Friction" on July 17, 2012 and it's getting fantastic reviews! It's available on Amazon, iTunes and elsewhere. Check out the new tunes and check out the band live on tour with dates at TheFixx.com. Thumbs up to keep post on top!
Love this vid. Such a great song. Jamie shines here particularly and I didn't even notice the auctioneer was Rupert the first time i saw the vid. 2:58 is the best bit!
Great album this track is taken from, Ink, well worth buying, i still have the original UK vinyl copy. Incidently, I wonder if this video is where 'Boner' from U2 took 'his' Mephesto persona from? This certainly predates the Zooropa album.
I just now caught this. It appears so, the MacPhisto makeup is dead-on. Ink was 1991 , ZooTV tour began in March 1992. Very cool that Bono was inspired by Cy but I hope he has given him credit for it, at least via phone call.
Good enough's not good enough Don't complain that you've got it tough With all you have your life's a bore Can't relax you want so much more Blind needs won't set you free Can't you see that Time is slipping away But I got to say How much is enough? when your soul is empty How much is enough? in the land of plenty When you have all you want and you still feel nothing at all How much is enough, is enough Gravity may bring you down But harmony could spin you round Information aerial Says buy buy buy material Give take all day long Can't you see it's Hopeless being strong When you live it wrong? How much is enough? when your soul is empty How much is enough? in the land of plenty When you have all you want and you still feel nothing at all How much is enough, is enough So give me your attention I know it's getting late While you were dreaming Something slipped away We're drowning in possessions Playing tricks with our minds Lost from one another Baby put your hand in mine Time is slipping away But it's not too late How much is enough? when your soul is empty How much is enough? in the land of plenty When you have all you want and you still feel nothing at all How much is enough, is enough
I so feel this song today. If you replace the word Material with Power I'm watching my country heading straight into ground. Material has been replaced by Deception lies and greed. "How much is enough in the land of plenty? How much is enough when your soul is empty?" This still song has even more meaning today, as it did, when they wrote it. Funny how history always repeats it self. You can't erase it, no matter how hard they try, it lives and breathes in those who remember.
bought and listened to this in '91 while living in Sun Valley ID.....driving taxi there during the winter....what a place to contemplate "how much is enough"....whenever i hear this images of multi-million dollar houses, high-end cars and jewerly -adorned beautiful people that i met and saw stream through my mind...then i took the CD on the road to Newfoundland, Canada and back....great disc!!
This just might be my favorite Fixx song... But it's just so hard to say so for sure because they have had so many awesome tunes. I saw them twice in their heyday... The opposite of epic fail.
OK... Big fan but had never seen this video! Cy makes a pretty creepy devil. Or just a pretty one. ;) Love this song. Love the funky rhythm guitar from JW-O!
@MrObviousToo Very underrated band from the eighties and nineties, they really were one of the first alternative bands to make it big. Cy's vocals just make these great songs even better.
@GVike A lot of non-vocalist bassists appear to be that way, they tend to be the least featured musician in film footage (whether in vids or live) for most bands with few exceptions (such as Flea). As a bassist myself, I tend to fall into the former category-- focus on being the mortar that bonds the rhythm section to the rest of the music, and let the others be in the spotlight.
So this song was from an 80s band... the song still sounds very 80s... but it's from 1991.... the video has a decidedly early-90s look to it... all still a great song and video though! I don't want people getting confused, is all.
@homerolopez075 THE FIXX WERE AN AWESOME BAND, VERY UNDERRATED IN MY OPINION, AND THEY WERE THE ONE OF THE FIRST ALTERNATIVE BANDS, THEY WERE FORERUNNERS OF GROUPS LIKE REM
@ronberetta-because his words are true . how much is enough went he song is empty ...we lost our intelligence much, but is it us or who feeds us or do we settle for the easy feed and stop thinking for ourselves
Whoa careful there. They are all great legends but you taking on U2? Ask yourself this: Would Taking Heads or U2 open for the Fixx? Probably happened the other way around in the past.
The bassist was either anti-social or wanted nothing to do with the videos. Either he wouldn't appear in them or if he did he'd be a statue in the background. Any ideas why?
Great lyrics... I too grew up in this age... there was SO much killer new music to explore back then. was never a fan of this shitty Brit pop outfit. this is dreadful and horrible. Someone mentioned REM? 🤣😂🤣Other than same time period, REM were a far superior band. 🖕One thing leads to another🖕. Great example of how awful as 80s new wave was. 👎👎👎. So awesome to know you were inspired by their music this way. You are not alone.
I did the same thing 😂
The lyrics are prophetic, this exactly where we are as a society! Never enough and always wanting!
The Fixx..one of the best bands of the 80s and when MTV was pretty cool...their greatest hits CD is superb...this track is included...
gdub454 my opinion is I believe MTV was the foundation that brought Alot of music to the radio that we listen to and vote for like the Fixx and other groups that are still around today
Great song from 1991
Jamie West-Oram is one of the most underrated guitar players around.
I absolutely agree he is that melodic heart of the fixx that never gets the credit he deserves
Hell yes
I love this song. Such an underrated band. They help mold the 80’s. I was lucky enough to be an adolescent and a teen during that decade.
I have the CD of FIXX from the somewhere around 90's and enjoyed it, want to hear this great song again! Cheers
Watching this in 2025, timeless! At 2:36, that guy looks like Trump, that's crazy prophetic! 😮 I'm a fan of this band for over 40 years, yes I'm a proud Fixxture ❤😊
what a great band...these guys are awesome!..and i listen to the shit we got now...and it just makes me cry
the money is the ruin of the world, but the music is one of the salvation, great fixx!
Incredible. This was the best song they'd done since "One Thing Leads To Another" and radio airplay in 1991 could only push this to #35 on the charts. Goes to show that timely, relevant songs get knocked to the ground by radio programmers in favor of pop pap. Some things never change.
Rick in South Omaha
Praise god america was not dead yet. God help all of us now!
Red Skies is also very strong
It was the era of Alt. Rock and grunge. Despite how talented many artists from 80s new wave era were. They carried a sort of stigma and it was hard for them to reinvent themselves and adapt to new sounds.
Best song by "The Fixx", since "Secret Separation!"
For the longest time I was under the impression that this is by Simple Minds. I was very happy to learn it is by the Fixx because I like them much more.
i found this forgotten treasure, so many years i kept the melody inside my head,!!! Great song, great band
Saw them last week and they did this. Had totally forgotten about it, FANTASTIC
Look where we are at in 2021, 30 years later this song has come to fruition . Cy and boys seen it coming!
There's an incredible relief living a minimalist lifestyle. Clutters the mind less.😮❤
Apparently in today's hollow world, too much is STILL not enough !! "Buy Buy Buy materiel" !!...and round and round we go !!
This might just be the near future, pretty straightforward and addictive, one of their absolute best.
Felt like getting deep and real with a band called The Fixx today.

One of my favorite songs by them, I was 13 when it came out in 1991. It made me a fan of theirs for sure!
I never heard it until "Rock On 1991" which I got in late 1999... so still in the 90s, at least!
the 80s were a fucking blast! i want to go back!
This song is more relevant TODAY than ever!
I will not say underrated. I will say unappreciated!
memories of freshman year. what a great song. This and Roll the Bones by rush were my favorite
Awesome priceless tune!!!
I am so glad I am not the only person to appreciate this wonderful song and band, I think INK is their best album, I saw them on the INK tour, 1991.......Greenville, SC still have the tee shirt, it is about to fall apart, but my INK CD still sounds Fantastic. Very good video clip. 😎
one of the best bands from the 80s
Great song. Criminally under appreciated.
Great song off a really strong album
emociona como canta este humano...buen grupo ... puro temas calados.
アルバムを象徴する傑作ナンバー、素晴らしい!
How much is enough when your soul is empty? how much is enough in the land of plenty? when you have all you want and still feel nothing at all, how much is enough?🎶-by the Fixx. 🖖☮️🎶
Cool song! Loooove it!
Eighties? U2? Simple Minds? Talking Heads?
NOOOOOOOO!!!
THE FIXX!!!!!!!
This was 90s
fucking awesome song!... from early 1991
Fixx is awesome
So many of their songs need to be re-mixed! Love the Fixx!!!!!!!!!
A very prolific tune, from a band that put out many masterful,, meaningful and great sounding tunes.
Thanks so much for posting!
thanks god also for the music!
I was in the 11th grade when I heard this song loved it
Este video fue programado durante varios meses en MTV en 1991, en el Rock Block. Genial banda...
Beautiful Friction is an amazing album ! Not as pop as the previous material but so impressive how creative this band can be.
So, jump forward to July of 2022 and The Fixx have released 'Every 5 Seconds', and IT-IS-INCREDIBLE!!! Some of the best work of their entire career.
Love this vid. Such a great song. Jamie shines here particularly and I didn't even notice the auctioneer was Rupert the first time i saw the vid. 2:58 is the best bit!

The Fixx put U2 to shame IMO
Bono lifted a concept from Duran Duran as well look at Serious by Duran Duran & Mysterious ways U2.
I just now caught this. It appears so, the MacPhisto makeup is dead-on. Ink was 1991 , ZooTV tour began in March 1992. Very cool that Bono was inspired by Cy but I hope he has given him credit for it, at least via phone call.
Good enough's not good enough
Don't complain that you've got it tough
With all you have your life's a bore
Can't relax you want so much more
Blind needs won't set you free
Can't you see that
Time is slipping away
But I got to say
How much is enough? when your soul is empty
How much is enough? in the land of plenty
When you have all you want and you still feel nothing at all
How much is enough, is enough
Gravity may bring you down
But harmony could spin you round
Information aerial
Says buy buy buy material
Give take all day long
Can't you see it's
Hopeless being strong
When you live it wrong?
How much is enough? when your soul is empty
How much is enough? in the land of plenty
When you have all you want and you still feel nothing at all
How much is enough, is enough
So give me your attention
I know it's getting late
While you were dreaming
Something slipped away
We're drowning in possessions
Playing tricks with our minds
Lost from one another
Baby put your hand in mine
Time is slipping away
But it's not too late
How much is enough? when your soul is empty
How much is enough? in the land of plenty
When you have all you want and you still feel nothing at all
How much is enough, is enough

I thought this was like from the aughts!
Who produced this irresistible song?
bought and listened to this in '91 while living in Sun Valley ID.....driving taxi there during the winter....what a place to contemplate "how much is enough"....whenever i hear this images of multi-million dollar houses, high-end cars and jewerly -adorned beautiful people that i met and saw stream through my mind...then i took the CD on the road to Newfoundland, Canada and back....great disc!!
In 2019 amid the virus, this song rings true. Always rang true even when it was released. But some slept anyway. Now you know
Its 2020 not 2019
@Wachenfeldt lots of great tunes on Ink but i agree, this kicks ass the hardest!!!!
Love the lyrics and the guitar riffs.......................
this song is beautiful, great fixx i love yor music! by andrea bonacchi
This just might be my favorite Fixx song... But it's just so hard to say so for sure because they have had so many awesome tunes. I saw them twice in their heyday... The opposite of epic fail.
gotta love cy cernin, his antics are priceless
OK... Big fan but had never seen this video! Cy makes a pretty creepy devil. Or just a pretty one. ;) Love this song. Love the funky rhythm guitar from JW-O!
This song from The Fixx is bouncy. 🎉
I am more confident every day that David Tennant is Cy Curnin.
Also, that's a young Ty Burrell as the auctioneer at the beginning.
Liar, the auctioneer is keyboardist Rupert Greenall.
I was born in '91
@MrObviousToo Very underrated band from the eighties and nineties, they really were one of the first alternative bands to make it big. Cy's vocals just make these great songs even better.

I had this CD... :-)
thank god.
Listen to the lyrics people... time is running out! SHUN GREED & materialism ! EINFACH LEBEN - LIVE SIMPLY!!!

How was this song not a bigger hit
Malevolent capitalist plot... Heheh
Menelaus rising?
@homerolopez075 THE FIXX WERE AN AWESOME BAND, VERY UNDERRATED IN MY OPINION, AND THEY WERE THE ONE OF THE FIRST ALTERNATIVE BANDS, THEY WERE FORERUNNERS OF GROUPS LIKE REM
Where can i find a better hd quality version of this song?
driverseat brought me here next moving in stereo enjoy....
What do you think if cy from the fixx was the joker in the batman movie
this song describes the internet
Why bother with arguing about who's better... Honestly-all of the aforementioned rock! (for someone in particular maybe even many, many 'someones.')
Today, Cy looks better and sounds much better.. ;)
@BLUESMANRONCHICAGO for sure!, i have some cd´s of them
New song by 'skin traffic ' ' here is new heaven and earth'
@ronberetta-because his words are true . how much is enough went he song is empty ...we lost our intelligence much, but is it us or who feeds us or do we settle for the easy feed and stop thinking for ourselves
Whooisdaaa?????😁
ESCUDERO apoya a que vengan a Chile
Heres a pro tip for the young seeker, would you bid $27? 27, 27 do I hear 27? There are 27 Nakshatras.
dont remember this top 40 hit
I love the fixx a band, but really how much did you have to go on when the Ussr callded its quits.
How much is enough when your soul is empty?
What does Cy says in the second part of the song?
"Information ariel says buy, buy, buy material" ariel??
Ah I see :D Thank you very much, now makes sense! Lots of lyrics around the web are incorrect.
☯️👑🕊️👍😊✌️🕊️👑☯️
The fixx how much is enough onily hits 1991
Alexander Blazic i might be interpreting this wrong but the Fixx had alot of music that were hits on both rock and top 40
Apparently, there wasn't enough to pay for horns that could stick on his head without his having to hold them in place... (smh)
Whoa careful there. They are all great legends but you taking on U2? Ask yourself this: Would Taking Heads or U2 open for the Fixx? Probably happened the other way around in the past.
from the album "ink"
Muy buena cancion, me parece que duran duran le copió a the fixx cierto ritmo
Cy Currnin could make a great "Joker"
The bassist was either anti-social or wanted nothing to do with the videos. Either he wouldn't appear in them or if he did he'd be a statue in the background. Any ideas why?
That's Dan K. Brown's style, IMO that robotic stance is actually a pretty cool contrast with the rest of the band
Bizarre devil face...
@simoforever75 isn't it nice to listen to a singer that can actually sing?? today's music lacks good singers like cy and others
Allah HuAkbar
Doesnt cy kerning look like the joker this zong
All i can say is that !! All the other bands of the 80's copy catted there style of play and most of there sound.....These guy's rip !!!!
It sure is. Obama 2012.
Ask this to Trump Almighty!
👎👎👎. Thank god, by 2012 they gave up putting records out!! No more Fixx Indian casino tours!
REM had no staying power.
You hear the Fixx on radio more AND they're still touring in 2022.
