The funny thing for me is that I hated Kiske's vocals for the first listens. Now I truly appreciate it for the amazing vocal performances that they are.
I first dicovered Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, etc. in the late 90s/early 00s, which set me down the rabbit hole of power metal. I'm grateful for my exposure to this sort of amazing metal that most of my fellow Americans don't get, unfortunately.

Helloween is my first encounter with metal music, this verry album was the first one i heard back in maybe 1991( i was 11 years old ), the album was 3 years old then. I absolutely fell in love with it instantly. The song eagle fly free from this album still to day i think is one of their best.

They actually have 3 singers. Michael Kiske, Andi Deris and Kai Hansen. Hansen was the original singer but gave up vocal duties to Michael Kiske after their first album. Michael is the one singing on this song. Andi joined Helloween after Michael left the band and has been singing for them since 93 I think, but now Kiske and Hansen has rejoined Helloween. They did a reunion tour and are releasing a studio album very soon and that is fan f**king tastic

The singer was only 20 years old when this came out in 1988

  • @MattSamma

They really have 3 singers now.
Michael Kiske (the -actually- bald one) was the second and most iconic singer; in fact, the Keeper of the Seven Keys albums are the foundational stone of power metal, and most singers from that genre were inspired by Kiske's (who was rumored to replace Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden when Bruce left the band) vocal technique.
Andi Deris (the blonde one) join the band after Kiske's expulsion in the 90's and remain with the band to this days.
Kai Hansen, one of the guitar players was also the first singer in the Walls of Jericho album and their main composer during the "golden age" of the band.
Kiske and Hansen reunited with the band after 30 years and, thanks to the overwhelming positive reception of the reunion tour, they decided to stay together. They'll launch an album on June 18th, and the first single, "Skyfall", was released on April 2nd.

Nice reaction.🤘🏻 Please react to Helloween - Ride The Sky (lyrics or audio). It is from their first album called "Walls Of Jericho" and it has the original singer Kai Hansen who is also the lead guitarist, the one who formed the band and basically invented power metal.😁 Everyone reunited a few years ago and now they are 7 members in total with 3 singers. A dream come true for Helloween fans.🤩

I remember getting this album back in the late 80's. Those were great times of discovery, venturing into new worlds of music previously unimaginable to my young mind. 30+ years later, and I still feel the same sense of euphoric zen whenever I find art that speaks to me. Much love to your channel from Alabama, my friend. Stay safe and never stop rockin' 🤘
    P.s.
I'd love to see your reaction to King Diamond's Sleepless Nights Live At The Fillmore 2015...if you ever have some free time to spare, of course. I imagine you get tons of requests daily, though, so don't sweat it if you can't.

Cute.. (Same chords with last song..) Best reaction to Keeper of the Seven Keys so far, including vocal coaches. The song is absolutely a masterpiece, Kiske on his prime, and all these were in 1987, 34 years ago. Currently Helloween is trying to stand with more commercial records. They are polishing some minor things. But they did rare in the past. Thank you for this nice reaction. For timeless and inaccessable music, my constant demand is: Keep Talking - Pink Floyd. Check out Pulse (1994) Live.

If you like voices like Dickinson, Kiske, and Tate, try Lizzy Borden. The lyrics might not be for everyone, but there's no denying his voice. Imo, he easily hangs with the 3 aforementioned. Wanna teaser?... Try the intro to "Love is a Crime". And if you liked that, try "Love you to Pieces".

The Family Ghost kicks much ass. That said, can't say there's a bad song on the album, which is rare for me.

Might be interesting to react next to their new single, Skyfall, which was released today... 30 some years after Keeper of the Seven Keys. All three vocalists have parts in the new song but most of it is sung by Michael Kiske (the singer on Keeper). How Many Tears, live, from their 2018 Pumpkins United Tour would also be a good listen. Again, you would get all three vocalists and some ear pleasing harmonies. So many good songs to choose from I'm sure you will get some good recommendations.

What about to listen to something like Stratovarius during the 90s with Timo Kotipelto (Singer) and Timo Tolki (Guitar)... I think that was a very intense period for that band and there were/are a lot of power metal hymns with remarkable voice and composition. This is especially well-noted in songs such as Paradise, Destiny, Visions, among others.

You seem to be asking for Eric Adams from ManOwaR. He’s got a great, versatile voice. The song I would recommend is Gates of Valhalla, or March for Revenge where you can hear both sides of his voice. He doesn’t spend as much time in the upper ranges but he can get there when needed.

Michael Kiske has been definitely heavily influenced by Geoff Tate and would go on to influence generations of power metal singers. He's a big part of why there was sort of an arms race in trying to get up high in power metal, though I always thought that part of the reason it worked specifically with Kiske is that it never felt like it was forced or *just* showmanship.
You are absolutely right that in recent years, there's been a reunion of sorts. For a while, Kiske wasn't even willing to sing metal or rock again, because he didn't feel connected to that music and was very burned out from the way he was fired from Helloween, but he slowly but surely rebuilt bridges with that music scene and eventually came back to Helloween to participate to a reunion that also includes Kai Hansen, the band's original singer and lead guitarist (together with mainstay Miki Weikaith). Andi Deris, the band's singer since 1994, also stayed and continued to be essentially the band's frontman, which I think is very nice considering he's the singer who stayed with Helloween the longest and definitely wrote a big part of their history.
Keeper of the Seven Keys, for such a long song, has been played remarkably often by the band live, and in particular during the reunion tours, really benefited from having three singers harmonizing and exchanging parts. Andi Deris' raspy tone fits the parts where Satan is speaking in the song *very* well, to the point where, if I didn't know beforehand, I'd think that part was actually written for his voice.
Sorry for the enormously long comment, really enjoyed the reaction!
