- Darth Vader is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. The character is the central antagonist of the original trilogy and, as Anakin Skywalker, is one of the main protagonists in the prequel trilogy. Star Wars creator George Lucas has collectively referred to the first six episodic films of the franchise as "the tragedy of Darth Vader". Darth Vader has become one of the most iconic villains in popular culture, and has been listed among the greatest villains and fictional characters ever. His masked face and helmet, in particular, is one of the most iconic character designs of all time.
Originally a slave on Tatooine, Anakin Skywalker is a Jedi prophesied to bring balance to the Force. He is lured to the dark side of the Force by Chancellor Palpatine (Darth Sidious) and becomes a Sith Lord, assuming the name of Darth Vader. After a lightsaber battle with his former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, in which he is severely injured, Vader is transformed into a cyborg. Now the Emperor's handpicked right-hand, he serves the Galactic Empire for over two decades as the Commander-in-Chief of its forces, purging the last Jedi and hunting the Rebels. Vader ultimately redeems himself by saving his son, Luke Skywalker, and killing Palpatine, sacrificing his own life in the process.[5] He is also the secret husband of Padmé Amidala, the biological father of Princess Leia, and the grandfather of Kylo Ren (Ben Solo). In the non-canonical Star Wars Legends continuity, he is also the grandfather of Ben Skywalker, his eponym Anakin Solo, Jaina Solo and Darth Caedus (Jacen Solo), and the great-grandfather of Allana Solo.
The character has been portrayed by numerous actors: David Prowse physically portrayed Vader while James Earl Jones has voiced him in all of the films and some television shows, and Sebastian Shaw portrayed the unmasked Anakin in Return of the Jedi, as well as the character's spirit in the original release of that film. Jake Lloyd played Anakin Skywalker as a child in The Phantom Menace, the first film of the prequel trilogy, while Hayden Christensen played him as a young adult in the following two films, post-2004 releases of Return of the Jedi, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In addition to the first six Star Wars films, the character appears in the anthology film Rogue One. He also appears in television series (most substantially The Clone Wars) and numerous iterations of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, including video games, novels, and comic books. Due to Vader's popularity, various merchandise of the character, such as action figures and replicas of his lightsaber, has been produced.
The Jedi High Council, simply known as the Jedi Council, was the primary Jedi Council of the Jedi Order during the rule of the Galactic Republic. The High Council met in the southwest tower of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
The High Council was a group of twelve wise and powerful Jedi Masters who were elected to guide the Order as well as to serve as an advisory body for the Office of the Supreme Chancellor. The Council was made up of five lifetime members, four long-term members, and three limited-term members. This organizational structure had evolved from the earlier assemblies of Jedi Masters, and during the Great Hyperspace War may have been nothing more than an "inner circle" within the assembly. The Council originally had no set meeting place and met irregularly on planets such as Ossus and Alderaan. With the relocation of the Order from Ossus to Coruscant, the Council was permanently established in that world. ncreasingly troubled, the High Council was given news of the death of General Grievous at the hands of one of their own members, Master Kenobi. Along with Count Dooku's death, the Council believed this sufficient grounds to ask the Chancellor to step down from office and allow an election to take place. Motivated by the fear that he was a puppet of the Sith Lord, Master Windu took three other members of the Council with him to encourage Palpatine's resignation. However, Windu was informed by Knight Anakin Skywalker that Palpatine and Darth Sidious were indeed the same man; with this knowledge, the Masters set out to arrest the Sith Lord. Arriving at his inner sanctum, the four Masters confronted the Sith, with Windu's comrades Kolar and Tinn falling within moments. Fisto put on a brave fight but was cut down soon after. Alone now, Sidious and Windu fought a vicious duel, with Windu gaining the upper hand and disarming the old man, also redirecting Sidious' Force lightning back at the Sith, deforming the latter. Before Windu could deliver the killing blow, Skywalker entered the fight and, both deluded by Sidious's promises of power and fearing that Windu's act was also an act toward the dark side, disarmed Windu, with Palpatine capitalizing on this to induce a lethal dose of Sith lightning on the Jedi Master and tossing him out of the window.
The Obi-Wan show is Disney canon, not Legends. This video is using Legends feats and scaling per the title.

If you're contaminated from a distance, well, it takes a long time to die. But if you are in the storm's path it will rip you to pieces then melt your bones. I've seen it kill both ways, and both ways are cruel. Better to be swallowed alive by a Sarlacc." Anakin felt the explosion heartbeats before it happened. Sweating and trembling with the effort of holding back the theta storm, ignoring the villagers who'd come to see what was going on, he tried to send Obi-Wan a warning-but his mind was so bludgeoned by the quicksilver torrent of keeping the raging storm at bay that he couldn't feel his former Master's presence.

How long had he been standing there, holding back the storm? Probably less than an hour. It felt like days. Years. He didn't have much time before the choice of whether to let go or endure would be out of his hands. Even the Chosen One had limits.

Is base mace on par with base Yoda both legends
IMO, Vader would definitely have the most trouble with Mace and Yoda; a reasonable amount with Obi Wan being that he was his former master. Vader could probably overpower the rest of the council without much difficulty.

suit vader comes to his prime somewhere around RoTJ and he still loses to unexperienced luke
(luke should by all logic be weaker than KF vader or "zonakin" (version of him that trashed dooku after briefly channeling the dark side) )
suit vader can´t take yoda and mace at the same time and win - he is too slow for them - suit vader gets tagged into his suit frequntly -
ahsoka and obi wan both destroyed half his mask , obi wan destroyed his chest control pannel , ESB luke tagged him on the shoulder ,

to be honest yoda could probably solo him , mustafar kenobi could solo him as well .
add mace and it is a done deal . the rest of the council are basically fodder but they are not needed in this fight .

anakins / vaders overall prime is operation knightfall - at that point he was probably the strongest character in the galaxy
(after his injuries he lost his potential to surpass sidious , he lost his agility and mobility and he had to completely redo his fighting style) .

Honestly Vader probably could do it but i think the combined teamwork of the stronger members could more than likely do more damage than one would think and give them the win. But even having this conversation is something and speaks volumes on vader.

I wonder this too. Throwing Obi into the mix too is problematic as his defensive mastery means he's gonna last a while and prioritize any openings he can get.

An addition to Grevious, his key ability is intimidation and surprise. Dooku told him so when easily handing him in training. Fright and a lack of confidence for a force user is a self fulfilling prophecy of being unable because you believe you can’t. “That is why you fail” like Yoda said.
On a normal day, those who got beaten by Grevious would be stronger but then again if against Vader, they might mentally shit themselves too and be just as bad if not worse. Really depends on who can keep their cool.
I wouldn't mind a Darth vitiate or darth Cadeus video.
Revan could also be fun to talk about given his character. I personally believe Revan at his absolute strongest should be stronger then obi wan but that's just me.

Adding to the Galen vs Shaak Ti thing, wasn't it mentioned Felucia at the time was a Light Side nexus? This, potentially, implying she was more powerful then normal? That could further ruin chances of scaling her to Starkiller's feats

Excellent analysis! They finally understand how strong Darth Vader is. The Dark Lord wipes the floors with every Jedi from the temple, but in my opinion he would have big problems with Yoda, but he still remains one of the strongest! I remember Sidious's words: "You have no equal among the Jedi and Sith of the past and present, Lord Vader! ".

I'd like to see more content on the generation of Skywalkers that follows Luke, comparing them to previous Jedi or Sith. I think they all have some crazy feats that would be interesting to scale to other notable figures in Jedi/Sith history. Ben Skywalker by the end of Fate of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars character ever, and even though he never got to keep evolving and getting more powerful, it would be cool to see where he scales with the feats he did achieve
The Skywalker line, (including his bloodline in the Solo family) is really something we need a dedicated video on.

The fight happened same year as RotS, Yoda was also able to amp himself on Vjun which is a dark side nexus.

It also should be noted in Ep 3 novelization it’s even stated that Anakin is stronger than any Jedi that Yoda has ever known before.
While it’s debated if Anakin is equal or surpasses Mace and Yoda, the fact he’s being compare to the two strongest shows how powerful Anakin was in Ep 3. Again Ep 2 guidebook stated Anakin was already Yoda level if not more powerful only lacking skill and experience.
Also one year before New hope, Vader fights Galen Marek. Galen during his training fights against Jedi mannequins that were strong as the original individuals. These mannequin’s were the entire Jedi council, Galen disarmed and force pushed Plo Koon, dismembered Coleman and Mace, melted Kit Fisto, threw and blasted out Anakin, Obi Wan, Mundi, Saesee, Agen Kolar and Shaak Ti got destroyed by his force lightning, Stass Allie got beheaded and finally flung and destroyed Yoda.
Vader faced the later and more trained Galen Marek and while he did underestimated him at first still put up a fight against him. Then when he had a rematch with Galen, Vader destroyed him and trying not to kill him. Proving Vader already surpassed the council.
In Ep 6 novelization Vader was outright stated to be the strongest man in the galaxy including Luke. The same Luke surpasses his Ep 5 self who was stated to be stronger than any Jedi in history. Vader only being second to Sidious.
Ep 6 novelization Sidious states Vader’s force powers have become more powerful than ever before including his Knightfall self.
Yeah Vader definitely surpassed the council.

Haven't started yet but: Most members are consulars not sentinels or guardians. They're strong and reliant on the force but not good in cqc. Most likely it'll be Yoda leading them combining their power to blast or contain Vader while Mace, Obi, and Mundi do the initial blitz. I think he has a solid chance but all of them at once might prove too much. If the first blitz fails then GG for the council

I know its Disney Canon only, but there is a comic where Vader, unrestricted by his suit and briefly given back his full potential in the force, was able to bully the entire council and even kill Sidious. Granted it was just a vision by the Force, but it was still the closest thing to a canon "what if" we have.
I know your comment is a year old, but that event wasn’t a vision. It’s explicitly stated to have actually happened. Vader Goes into the force and fights exact replicas of the entire Jedi counsel and bodies all of them at once. We don’t know how much stronger Vader was at the time, it’s implied he at least lost any nerf from his cybernetics. However, nowhere is it stated he was buffed during that fight, only unnerfed. And since ROTJ Vader overcame pretty much every nerf he was given as well as reaching new heights of power. It’s safe to say even cannon Vader would absolutely embarrass and strike debilitating amounts of fear into the entire counsel.

with mace i hate that he was going to kill sidious after always being so hard on anikin about following the Jedi ways...And killing sidious at that point was not the jedi way no matter what or how or what ever sidious was...just not their way.......I agree sidious is way to dangerous to stay alive but you do that at a later point! I mean anakin cut his arm off he didnt kill him...at that point he just at that point wanted windu to follow Jedi teachings and not kill the chancellor but put him on trial...Then sidious wams him with the lightning which anakin didnt even think about i imagine...and then he is locked in...in his mind! If Windu didn't kill Sidious than there would've been no way for them to truly defeat him or stop him. He literally is the Senate. He could literally buy the courts and walk away scott free. Killing him was the only way.
Besides, Anakin did not have the best intentions in mind when he mentioned the Jedi way to Windu. He was thinking entirely about himself and what Sidious would do for him. Anakin has disregarded Jedi way before when it was convenient.

The council would definitely bested him a bit easily. However 1v1 slowly through the council might be a different situation. Problem with Vader is he underestimates characters like Obi Wan(Kenobi show) but then in Battlefront 2 he’s like “Yoda, do not underestimate him”. If he were able to keep himself calm and not use the Dark Side against Mace Windu he might win mid tier. If he doesn’t play around with Ben then he should be able to disarm him. Yoda might take the cake.

I'm pretty sure starkiller could defeat cole. Nothing can defeat bad ending cole because he can rebuild himself from nothing, you could nuke him and completely obliterate his body and he'll still come back, making him immortal. The only thing that can truly kill him is something like the RFI.

Windu and Yoda versus Vader though at ANY time would have been a loss for Vader IMO, a tough fight for them both but I just can't fathom defeating the both of them, at once - one on one, I think he'd beat them both just because he is Vader, but if it was more like a Game of Thrones or Walking Dead universe where really anyone can die, then I think he would beat them individually, but would 100% die or be permanently ruined for his efforts, there's no way you face Windu AND Yoda without leaving "Scarrrred and deforrrmed"

Plo Koon & Yoda would be the biggest physical challenge, with Obi-Wan being his biggest mental distraction. Don't forget that Vader's whole style of fighting is based on Jedi philosophy & techniques oddly cemented by these very members. Vader knows them better than perhaps they know themselves. Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader are fundamentally different people and mindsets, and Vader learned from Anakin's mistakes.
Vader would beat Mace Windu because Vader's Saber form is defensive and calculated which is a great counter against Vapad
So plo koon offers electric judgement as fire support Yoda concetrates so as Vader doesn't force overwhelm the others while Mundi and Mace, obi wan, kit fisto and shak ti fight vader while the rest are all casualties.
And people still say revan can beat vader

This was really cool and really puts into perspective how overpowered Vader can be. Because even if you don't think Darth Vader could actually solo the entire Prequal era Council by himself, the fact that he can do that to them outside of possibly the top 3 masters and the fact this is even a serious and debatable topic just makes the Dark Lord of the Sith that much more terrifying. Also, I just thought of this, but do you think you can make a video on either a battle royal between the Champions from BOTW and AOC or them against Link from those games (no Tears of the Kingdom obviously so it is as fair as possible)? Because while there is precedent for the Hero of the Wild to win against any of them by killing the Blight Ganons, holding off all 4 at once for a bit without the Champion powers and his full arsenal from Breath of the Wild and only getting overwhelmed by the Hallows in Age of Calamity when they jumped him, I'm curious to know if the 4 strongest of 4 of the 5 dominant species in Hyrule have realistic win conditions against their friend.

Could you legends clone army vs canon clone army in terms of which is better? Either as a while but with specifying particular clone units or a specific unit vs unit comparison such as legend arc troopers like alpha-17, alpha-77 fordo, clan skirata arcs and comparing them to the bad batch.

Windu never won. In the novelization of the movie, sidious had him the entire time. In the movie, sidious caught him and had his saber at his face and windu was defenseless. Now we all know how fast sidious is, if he wanted to execute the killing strike he would have. He mockingly just held his saber at him in a taunt, he needed the situation to push Anikin to the dark side which he did. He was so in control of the situation, he was able to kill 3 powerful Jedi in an instant and duel the master of the order and manipulate the situation to his advantage intentionally. Windu never was on his level and that’s really all there is to it.

He couldn't. Even Palpatine wouldn't be able to take down the entire council. Especially if Mace and Yoda are there. Plo Koon and Obi-Wan would be tough opponents as well.
I think the Council would just be too much in terms of numbers, Skill, Power, and Experience for even Darth Vader @ his peak. The issue I have with people's Power Rankings is that many factors go into a Fight.
