    Shrimping ain't easy! Videoing while shrimping makes it even harder. My beautiful wife and I did our best to video as much as we could on this trip. Hope everyone enjoys the video and gives us a thumbs up for our efforts.

Those old live oajks on the Avenue were twisting an turning, Snapping limbs off, Crazy!!Several years later, I was walking over on Otter Island beach and found quite a few sheets of the roofing tin that blew off the house we were in, But she stood strong!!Nice chatting with you, Good luck with your shrimping guys, I did it for 47 years right there!!

    Love (most) all your video, especially where you navigate the lovely marshes of the Low Country. I do have a question. What do you do with the shrimp heads after separated from the body? The reason why I am asking is because on the country I am from (Italy) you always buy shrimps heads and all. Many preparations require heads and shells on, other require heads off, but they are NOT discarded. You can make delicious stock and broth with the heads (and the shells). After using heads and shells, they can be reused for composting and in the garden. I wish I could find a source of whole shrimps. Not even during our vacation on Edisto Island can obtain that; I have checked with Flowers Seafood Co., Edisto Seafood, etc, with no luck. Maybe next time I am on Edisto, I should visit you on Sint Elina or Beaufort.

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  2 роки тому +1

      Fresh shrimp won't last but a couple of days if they're not headed. We use some of the heads in our crab pots for bait but we throw most of them back in the water for the wildlife to feed off of. Are there any shrimp boats coming into Edisto?

    • @padi5star
      @padi5star 2 роки тому +1

      @@SaltyReflections Thanks for your reply and the explanation. I have seen a few shrimp boats on the channel by Edisto Seafood but I have never seen them moving around or unloading catches. Maybe because I do not go shopping too early. I have seen shrimping boats in McClellanville though. They seem to still have somewhat of a shrimp fishing activity. Where are selling their catches the 20+ shrimpers you see in your video?

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  Рік тому

      @Padi 5Star, there are several local fresh markets here in Beaufort. So some of these boats are connected to them & are either their boats or sell to them. We know of a few that take their catch back a little further inland to the cities where they are from.

      @@kyleleago9744 Thanks man. We don't use a winch because we would have to have a license to use one. We don't get to shrimp very often. I just can't see paying extra to use one for the amount of shrimp we're catching.

      Prayers! I had one barely pricked my finger and the pain I felt was terrible. Pain started in my finger and ran up my arm to my chest. I'm going to have to come up with a better way of handling them. I'm really sorry you're going through this. Take care.

      @@SaltyReflections we were cobia fishing and was down to my last rig we netted him and went to release it and it slid in the net and went straight into my left forearm it tore the tendons out of my arm and cut the blood flow to my hand that was by far the worst pain I have ever felt and it just got worse only thing that stopped the pain was the surgery I will never get one in a boat or land again

      Old shrimper here, soak your stung body part in very warm soapy water. It'll draw the poison and your can keep working.

    See all the dead under sized fish ,
    This is why all large netting should be made illegal.

      Larger boats with winches have nets designed better than what we're using. Hopefully they're not catching as much bycatch as we.

      @saltwaterinmyveins 2 роки тому +1

      Don't worry to much about bycatch. Trawling been going on for a 100 years. Next year there'll be just as much or more. And there's about 1/10 of the boats now.
