Candidates Tournament, 1959 - Fischer stumbles against Tal - Fischer not quite ready for the likes of Tal at that time - losing two Kings Indians and two Sicilian defence games.
An instructive game showing both Tal's supremacy and Fischer's will to succeed. Enjoy the game
Bobby Fischer was a record-setting chess master who became the youngest player to win the U.S. Chess Championship at 14, and the first American-born player to win the World Chess Championship.
Bobby Fischer was born on March 9, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. Fischer first learned the game of chess at age 6 and eventually became the youngest international grand master at the age of 15. In 1972, he became the first American-born world chess champion after defeating Boris Spassky. An eccentric genius, who was believed to have an I.Q. of 181, Fischer became known for his controversial public remarks in his later years. He was granted Icelandic citizenship in 2005, following legal trouble with the United States. He died on January 17, 2008.
Match of the Century
During the early 1960s, Fischer continued to be involved in U.S. and world championship matches, but was also making a name for himself with his erratic, paranoid commentary. After having a 20-game winning streak in the early 1970s, Fischer once again made chess history in 1972 with his defeat of the Soviet Union's Boris Spassky at the Reykjavik, Iceland world championships, thus marking the first time an American chess player had won the title. Fischer's defeat of a Soviet opponent, which became known as the "Match of the Century," took on iconic proportions in the midst of the Cold War and was seen as a symbolic victory of democracy over Communism. Fischer's historic win also made chess a popular game in the United States.

Man, Tal keeps resigning in these completely won positions.
He was one of the most unpredictable chess players!! 😅
So true!
@Marius you really crack me up! That was awesome!!
Hahaha
That was a king sacrifice.
I dunno, but resigning in a complete winning position seems like a badass thing to do.
It's almost like saying that the game is too boring for you
Marius Tricã Suicide is badass!
power move
@ 6:53
I wonder what would have happened if Fischer went Knight to D3. Attacking the knight on F4
Hazardous; cames Kxg2, forking the Queen and gaining the e1 Rook. The Knight would be guarded by the bishop. So it’s winning for black.
9:45 "After rook to e6, Tal resigned the game." -Agadmator 2018
he did it again !!!
Damn, Tal is really unpredictable!
Haha..Agad next quote above a game
😂😂😂😂
Tal felt so bad for Fischer, but Fischer did not take his pity.
Mikhail Tal, known for sacrificing pieces, queens and even games (9:43)
9:44 "After rook to E6, Tal resigned the game..." - what?!?! He was about to checkmate Bobby Fisher! Wow, that's some sportsmanship. Respect!
I have no idea how this happens... My brain is trolling me on purpose :)
I know it's a simple mistake, don't mind me. I make mistakes too. The other day I accidentally called my sister "Medo". I don't know how this happens. Keep producing these games, I always enjoy them.
You called your sister Medo? I'm so posting this on all my social networks :D
John LaBrie I don't get it
I was just joking, but I am glad that you got a laugh out of that. You're an awesome guy!
Tal took pity on Fisher. He decided that Fisher should learn how to resign, so he showed him.
Masterful.
That's the wittiest remark, good sense of humour
How did Tal fare against Fischer after he turned 16 until the end of Bobby's career ??
Never beat him again...
@@17donhol Yeah but Tal managed to draw most of the games (Idk if there are any where either side won, maybe Fischer won a few?) Still impressive.
@@17donhol And consider later Tal had health problems even in his late twenties...if you want use that excuse...dumbass
@@kwesiowusu111 he didnt have parkinsons or alzheimers pretty sure he could still play.
why every time #tal resigns in this time @ 9:43
*This is twice* that I've heard him mistakenly say that haha! And both times I almost spit out what I'm eating.
If you hadn't commented about Agad's blunder, I wouldn't have noticed it hahah
That explains the two wins Bobby got from Tal! 😂
@Sourabh Joshi Agad is obsessed with Tal 😁 "In the spirit of Tal"
Exactly! I was looking for this comment, else was gonna post it myself. You're an excellent subscriber 😉
"Just as one's imagination is stirred by a girl's smile..." After reading this, I remembered " Tal hit in the head with a bottle and beaten up" 😂😂😂😂 XDDD

@@Arashi1144 Everyone and their dog has played minecraft at some point. I remember playing it in the early beta days, many many moons ago.
One of the greatest chess tournaments ever held. Second only to Agadmator's 100k sub tournament. ;)
God yess Fischer and Tall in one game, these are the things that make a man happy.
*Fardin Feiz,* two of my favorite Chess player battling it out. Truly there are things that make a man happy.
Tal resigned the game but still got the win. Now that is a true magician move :P
sometimes i think Tal's sacrifices are just his way of giving people odds in a fabulous way
The psychological damage Tal did to Fischer by beating him 4 times must have been immense. I imagine Bobby obsessed over Tal for years before getting some measure of revenge.
Knowing how salty Bobby can get, that could very well be true.
Fisher destroyed Tal infinite times. He destroyed every single top player without any help by soviet politics
@@yugiohfanatic1964 I mean agad mentions their records, 4-2-5 in favor of tal for classical, 4-4-5 if including rapid and exhibition. So Tal won more games
@@kanmeo bro tal was even winning in a rapid game but still he lost because he tried to complex things. For your information I tell you winning move was just to push the past pawn
Bro did anyone else has a positive record against Fischer
6:03 "Tal doesn't waste time!" So nice to hear 😎
09:43 ..And in this position, Agadmator blunders the video 😂😂😂
Can't help but feel sorry for you man
It's about the game, doesn't matter who resigns :)
agadmator's Chess Channel Lolx I know right
Although Mikhail Tal was consistently a very strong player right up till his death, I personally believe he was at his best here and the subsequent championship against Mikhail Botvinik
wow...adgamator,,, you analysis are simply fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!
"This is one of those moments in the life of a Sicilian player when you are able to push D5 without ruining your position, you feel great." Lol.
Wow, Tal completely crushed Fischer -- made it look so effortless!
Lol your dog having a moment of his life
5:55
The "Tal plays the immediate f5" part almost made me jump, it looks that agressive haha
In this position, Wei Yi resigned the game.
:D
This comment should be pinned to the whole channel hahahaha
I don't recall where this is from. Can someone please remind me?

The fantastic commentary! Thank you Agadmator.
Watching this old video again. An incredibly beautiful game. I believe Fischer plays e4 most of the times, but off late the English opening replied with an Anglo Scandinavian works for me as white in lichess.
Wow Tall beats Fisher om he is Candidate of Goat against Kasparov!! Mikhail Tal is Very sharp player in his era!!!! Thanks Coach to show this game!!!
Not only did Tal resign the game, but he resigned after he played the winning move. A true gentleman!
What I liked most about this video: the dog in the background.
Who gives a dime about the Elo ratings and success of any other player. Or even if they are considered the best ever. When you have Tal's imagination shown up on the board, you don't care who says what. Imagination always overcomes power. Imagination can take you anywhere, power can't. And this is the reason why Tal was loved more than anyone else in this sport.
I’ve been waiting for this for months. :)
Greatly “put out there” (02:59) for noobs like me. Simply great.
Two great players tal kind of dominated this game seem to be one move ahead the whole game reminds me of how I feel when a player gets the jump on me and I know the game is lost happens to the best only can try to learn from it good game good call thanks
Thanks for making my morn great man..thanks..
I also noticed u use the pics of players acc to the years played...for eg this game..young pics as game played in 50s.. :-) I say nice touch :-)
Have a great day..love from India
Fischer got absolutely destroyed this game. Thanks for showing.
There's a survey of the Sicilian, which discusses various resulting pawn formations, and the piece strategies that follow. I forget the book, but it regards this game as being "The Perfect Sicilian" (the irony is that it's played with the great Bobby Fischer on the wrong side.). The Najdorf is the most "perfectionist" of Sicilians - positionally, you're trying to have your cake and eat it too, by delaying development in order to set your pawn structure just right.
Tal goes for central light-square domination by expanding on the queenside, forcing the knight to move. Tal then plays ..e5, which, along with ..a6 is the signature move of the Najdorf (nb: unless White makes a one-move ...e5 impossible by playing either Bc4 (as he does here) or Bg5 (as in the mainline), if you don't push ..e5 in one, it's a Scheveningen, not a Najdorf). Black then piles up his pieces to attack the central light squares, which White can no longer prevent with the awkward placement of his knights, and at the right moment, plays ..d5, removing White's e-pawn, and then ..g6 ...f5, removing White's f-pawn and giving Black sole domination of the center. ...f5, when it comes, looks an attack on a pinned knight, but as the game shows, the move doesn't win material. It's the center that Tal wants.
At this point, every positional goal of the Najdorf has been achieved. It's a technical win.
Everyone saying Fischer was only 16 remember that Magnus drew Kasparov and beat Karpov at 13.
What are you trying to say? Carlson is more talented than Fischer? If that’s what ur trying to prove then I have to say ur drunk
Remus Mihailescu Carlson was an IM at the moment rated around 2480, of course he was not better than super gms such as Karpov or Kasparov, Carlson drew against Kasparov once and lost to him twice, and one game of a IM beating a super GM can’t say anything, if they played again when Carlson was 13, Karpov def would win rematch
SHUT THE FUK UP
CARLSEN AINT IN THIS VIDEO
Silent Monologue He defenetly is ma homie
4:45 Fischer=Bishop 🤣🤣
In Fischer excuse, he was only 16 y.o. and Tal was 22, but won USSR championships with strongest field in the world already twice . So it was grown up in heavy battles warrior against teenage boy and Tal style was intimidating for many other players, including World Champion Botvinnik . Only top player who remained calm under Tal attack was back then experienced Paul Keres who beat Tal 3 times in 1959 Candidates and drawed the 4th game . But Tal scored much better against bottom half of the field than Keres , won Candidates and next year World Champion title too .
2:30, there's a monster living in your house
a great game suggestion
Tylkowski vs Wojciechowski 1931

MICKAEL TAL FOR ME WAS THE GREATEST AGRESSIVE ATTACKING PLAYERS ALL TIME..BETTER THAN FISHER E KASPAROV..READ THIS
In 1960, at the age of 23, Tal thoroughly defeated the relatively staid and strategic Mikhail Botvinnik in a World Championship match, held in Moscow, by 12½-8½ (six wins, two losses, and thirteen draws), making him the youngest-ever world champion (a record later broken by Garry Kasparov, who earned the title at 22). Botvinnik, who had never faced Tal before the title match began, won the return match against Tal in 1961, also held in Moscow, by 13-8 (ten wins to five, with six draws). In the period between the matches Botvinnik had thoroughly analyzed Tal's style, and turned most of the return match's games into slow wars of maneuver or endgames, rather than the complicated tactical melees which were Tal's happy hunting ground.[15] Tal's chronic kidney problems contributed to his defeat, and his doctors in Riga advised that he should postpone the match for health reasons. Yuri Averbakh claimed that Botvinnik would agree to a postponement only if Tal was certified unfit by Moscow doctors, and that Tal then decided to play.[16] His short reign atop the chess world made him one of the two so-called "winter kings" who interrupted Botvinnik's long reign from 1948 to 1963 (the other was Smyslov, world champion 1957-58).
His highest Elo rating was 2705, achieved in 1980. His highest Historical Chessmetrics Rating was 2799, in September 1960....
Great guy Tal was. I miss him a lot. His style was so amazing that it left his opponents blabbered
I'm gonna start doing this on Lichess. In a completely won position, I will suddenly and unexpectedly resign! What a great idea. I will feel like I'm Tal!
At 9.30 Bobby resigned. At 9.45 tal resigned.. who was tal playing against if Bobby had already resigned at 9.30.. against whom tal resigned?????🤔🤔🤔
What a blunder 9:44
That was a dubious slip
Agadmator blunder @9:43
This of course is the young Bobby Fischer, it's hard to believe he got way better than he was here.
i've read somewhere that Bobby Fischer was the only player to visit Tal in hospital... i image a last match for them, and that day was Fischer to resign in a good position.
That was a devastating attack from Tal, I am really charged up after seeing this.
🤨🤔
@3:59 bishop can also block the check, black can save his queen
Gave like when saw tal vs bobby
4:44 bishop moved his bishop
Today is Fischers birthday and Im sitting here watching his beautiful past matches
I think agadmator for real shows that the Sozin variation with the bishop on the a2-g8 diagonal can be worse that the options of the e2, d3 squares. With the Bishop on e2, the move of e5 would have been stronger. On b3 losing.
Guys everyone's busy catching his blunder but did you guys notice Tal keeps his queen aside this very end 😂
@8:09 ... Qh6 is not an immediate checkmate, contrary to the indication in the video. The white king can capture on f5. But checkmate is only 1 more move away (Kxf5 Qg5#) so it’s on par with the whole “Tal resigned” thing 😂
Great game between two Chess Titans
Fisher: Soviet is afraid to play Sicilian against me, Tal plays Sicilian and wins
NOW I believe the I checkmate u and u checkmate me theory of Ben Finegold.. #bothresigned
The best players
Tall very attacking chess player but my favorite chess player oll time mikhail Botvinnik. Very strong steady with and meddle game and ending.
I love your channel!
Thanks for introducing the magic of Tal to me. Can you please tell what chess application you use to create the videos?
Chess.com
7:47 black queen checks white, what’ll happen if you block the check with pawn to c5? protecting the knight and protecting the g7 square for the coming rook check. And the pawn is basically protected by the knight, so pawn to c5 queen protects knight knight protects pawn, pawn blocks check. Bishop blocks checks for the incoming rook to g7 check. Am i right?
Tal Rocks again!!!
I don't know about other viewers, but I felt like Tal was breaking Bobby's spine bone by bone....
7:36 bishorsho :)
Tal resigns, still wins. A true magician!
Final blow between two magicians tal and bobby .
Hey Antonio, can you say "Tal resigned the game" for games actually won by Tal from here on out? That phrase would leave new subscribers confused.
At 6:50, queen to E3 was played..but I feel knight to e6 is a possible better move forking the black queen and rook..what’s the probable outcome of that move
recently heard: The past is history and the future is a mystery. Today is a gift, that's why it's called the "present".
@agadmator, who do you think was a bigger loss to chess: Fischer refusing to defend his title at just 32, retiring from pro chess and descending into lunacy, OR Tal drinking way too much for way too long, keeping him in hospital for much of the time, compromising his ability to play and ultimately killing him at a tragically young age?
I mean Fischer vs Karpov ... That would have been legendary. On the other hand Magician from Riga could have delivered so much more amazing games. Guess we will never know :) Hope that you dont mind iam not agad and still answering
Yeah i agree :D
How come @8:11 qh6 is checkmate? White king can still capture the pawn on f5 right ? Only then qf8 would be checkmate...
9:43 nobody would have predicted that
Instead of capturing the bishop I think pawn to C5 could work for fischer during the check from queen
9:43; Actually, Bobby resigned the game 😂😂😂
9:44 Tal resigned
-Agadmator
Lol it was Bobby
At 6:00, after black plays f5, can't the white pawn on g6 capture en passant?
"Resigning in completely winning position is totally unpredictable." -Agadmator-
Hey..love ur videos from india. !
Can start a Bobby Fischer Vs. Mikahl Tal tournaments videos?
So, yeah....!
8:09 - wait, check MATE? King can take pawn on f5 to prolong it, couldn't it? o_O
Robi_CK prolong it for like 2 more moves, yeah
For one move yes
Tal was Fischer's bete noir. At least for a while.
gledam cesto, i tek sad na indexu sazano da si iz Hrvatske haha...
predlozio bih da snimas igre sa lichessa, npr 10 min. te analizu nakon napravis, uz live razmisljanje tijekom igre :D
9:04 why he didn't do something like c5 or f3 and try to escape
9:43 you incorrectly said Tal resigned the game. LOL.
Yes I enjoy to show the best game of Ta/
They were very good friend... fischer became more stronger in mid 60 than anybody in the world
Amazing!!!
antonio why do you keep on saying tal resigns when he is winning xD?
I wish I knew :)
TOP 10 ANIME MYSTERIES
Good hiragana, Kami
Maybe he just wants to make sure you are paying attention. :P
Kami sama I think the reason is that Tal really resigned the game. U know it's called King sacrifice and Tal's famous for that
Fischer was 16 btw
And ? Magnus was 13 when he drew kasparov and beat karpov
Yes they were both grandmasters at that age. But were they world champ material at that time. no. And the Picture is miss leading, Fischer didnt wear suits during that time and looked much younger.
That's 2004 and Karpov well past his best. Kasparov simply underestimated Carlsen.
how is queen to h 6 checkmate ?
can't the king capture on f5 ?
Will you cover that very nice king hunt from the last stream, you said you would
For all those who think Tal resigned , he didn't . Agad said Tal instead of Bobby mistakenly , but he really meant to say Bobby resigned the game . Agad makes that mistake occasionally
What's the name of the piece and board style settings you use? Chess.com doesn't let you preview and im not gonna click dozens of them to check every one.
min 7:48 Q a7 and not capture bishop! now c5! what happ now?
