well presented funny video.Gave my plant to a friend as it was slow growing in my garden (???),but has gone crazy in hers! damm it !lol
Thanks Jen, I'm glad you found it enjoyable. Maybe you could get some seedlings off of your friend later on and have another go. Its well worth the effort for such an amazing plant. Simon
I grow these every year, I save the seeds but also order them as there are many varieties to try.
All my varieties seem to be green!🙂
Which do you prefer, I am new to this, I am trying to create a tropical look around my raised patio, I've got 2 large Fatsia Spider's Web which did well over winter and are putting on loads of growth now. I like the look of the purple ones, but am unsure which if any of those have germinated - I'm growing Red and Blue Giants (hopefully), three so far have germinated, they are green, I suspect not warm enough in my room. I'll put on a heat pad next year and start a bit earlier ...
They all tend to be green when they germinate so I wouldn't worry yet. I like the 'Impala' cultivar and the 'Red' cultivar which is green with red stems but I haven't found any this year. Simon
thanks for the info i sowed my saved seeds from last year but it took so long to germinate even on a heater pad. when they finally started to come up they failed to actually produce leaves. So disappointed thought they would be easy to grow.
Hi Keith, sorry to hear you had an issue with this. I also saved Ricinus seeds from last year, but u didn't like the look of thr. As some of the seed coats were compromised. However, I recently bought some new seed off ebay and, again, germinated in a week in a heated propagator. You still have time to sow some new stock if needed. Simon
I can't seem to find an answer to this - do you pinch out the growing tips to make them bushier? I have 3 that have germinated, one is finally taking off (think it is too cold in my room!)
Thanks in advance!
Hi Rachel. I don't pinch out mine. It's not really necessary for these as they naturally branch out from the leaf stalks as they mature. Simon
@@walkingtalkinggardeners Fabulous, thank you!
Have they started to “redden up?”
Nope! I've been duped yet again by unscrupulous retailers.
@@walkingtalkinggardeners I know the feeling! Even supposedly reputable dealers can sometimes disappoint!

They were green weren't they
Well spotted Steve, Ricinus communis 'Impala' emerge green and then turn more red as they mature. Thanks for pointing that out. Kind regards Simon
