  • Here is "You Can't Get a Man With a Gun" in a 2001 recording by Reba McEntire, produced to promote her run in the Broadway revival of Annie Get Your Gun. Music and lyrics are both by Irving Berlin. Video footage shot by an audience member of the (I believe) May 15, 2001 performance, as well as press-reel footage of her in the role, has been synced up to the recording.
As far as I know, the only two recordings made by Reba to promote her run are "You Can't Get a Man With a Gun" and "I Got Lost in His Arms."
Having already portrayed Annie Oakley in the 1995 CBS film / miniseries Buffalo Girls, Reba's run in the production lasted from January 26 to June 22, 2001. Critically acclaimed by several newspapers, The New York Times commented of her Broadway debut, "Without qualification the best performance by an actress in a musical comedy this season." Reba herself commented that the musical was "some of the hardest work I've ever done in my life."

Fantastic!. One of the greatest comic character songs ever written interpreted to utter perfection by Reba!

I know right? Ethel Merman as good as she was almost doesn’t make sense after hearing Reba’s interpretation.

This song is written with jokes, but I have never found it as funny as it is sad. This is one of the saddest conditional love songs in my opinion. Cause it isn’t about not being able to love a man, but the inability to see yourself as lovable. And I feel like Reba captures that sadness beautifully, she doesn’t play the jokes cause you don’t have to, she plays the rejection and I find that refreshing and beautiful. I personally relate a lot to this show, and always wanted to see a little more of a serious take on this show. Cause all her struggles are so real and relevant. At least to me. They tend to play Annie as a joke, and I find her to be nothing but charming and loving. She is a boss of a women and to turn her into just a joke never sat right with me. She raise her brother. She was a great shot because she need to feed her family, she change all she was for the money to support her family. Mb this is just me, and I totally get that. But I was just wondering if anyone thought this too.
