In 25 years saying "Brian Shaw is the WSM GOAT" will be like saying "Michael Jordan is the NBA GOAT" now. (ie, open to debate, but a defensible position.)
@@jonathanspears3484 not a good comparison. Most people think Jordan is the GOAT. Can't say the same for Shaw, though many think Shaw is best. Big Z is probably #1 for a plurality of people, followed by Shaw and Kazmier

And on top of all that, he seems like a genuinely great guy, husband and father. Brian is amazing and I wish him all the best going forward, whatever he does…he deserves it.
Thanks guys for this great tribute to the best ever competitor in WSM history. You did a fantastic job, and I sincerely hope that Brian watches this video.
Brian is and will continue to be one of the greatest ambassadors of the sport of strongman for years to come. I wish him the best at the Shaw Classic and in retirement after that. He's a class act and they're getting hard to find these days.
End of an era! But what an era it was! It's crazy to think how dominant him or Z may have been without the other. Though, you can never truly know because they definitely pushed each other.
Thank you so much for this great tribute to our hero. He is the reason that so many Americans now follow Strongman. You have always shown him the utmost in respect, and I love you both (I hope that doesn’t sound corny). Not only because of Brian, but how you are the channel for all things Strongman. I depend on you both for keeping track of all Strongman competitions.
Marius is better .... Mariouf beat Brian Shaw when Marius weighed only 132 kilograms while Shaw weighed 183 kilograms. This is a superstitious and difficult thing.
I've been watching many of your old videos where you interviewed guys like Kaz, Samuelsson and Pfister and learning about people that I'd only heard of before. Your channel is a unique source for new fans to learn about the sport.
Brian was the person who got me into strongman I didn’t even know about the sport until I watched the strongest man in history and Brian made it look so cool. It’s unfortunate I only became a fan after his prime but I’m still so happy that this legend of a man existed.
I don't think Mariusz Pudzianowski would've won 5 if it wasn't for the WSM IFSA split up. His static strength weakness clearly got exposed in the 2004 wsm competition. But no one can take away from his 2008 win with his calf injury
I agree with this Not just his win in 08 with the calf injury, but taking second the following year was also a great result, as the lineup was immense Maruisz may not be the strongest guy ever, but imo the most competitive athlete in strongman history. The man had no quit
@@AlejandroSanchez-pl6jw But even at Arnold classic he done very well in few events especially Apollon’s wheel, but he did poorly at few others so his placing wasn’t very good
Yeah, I always feel that his wins were wins in a competition that's very hard to compare to what WSM was during Brian's time. Pudz was great at the moving events and maybe mediocre at the static events. While it's undeniable that he won 5, which Brian didn't quite manage (but just imagine how close he was, especially in 2021 and 2010!), but if Pudz had been competing in 2010-2023 or so, he would not have gotten 4. Maybe 2, at most 3. Not that he's bad, but that's the reality of it. Putting Brian's accomplishments into perspective. It must be unbelievably frustrating to be so close to a 5th and not get it. I think he feels, or felt, that he was destined for a 5th and if he couldn't do it, he was failing something he was supposed to be able to do. What he did was incredible, though. Astounding. What a warrior. Like Loz pointed out, the man kept showing up over and over again, and he never did worse than 7th after his first year. He was expected to come top 5 at least every year he was there, even if he fell short twice. After his rookie year, he always made the final and almost always won the group stages. From 2009 to 2023, he was one of the 7th strongest men on the planet, with no interruption, often being top 3 or THE strongest.
@@TheBcoolGuy Seems like the 5th title is cursed. We have 4 guys having 4 titles now 😅 I think the level is too high. Brian had to face peak Savickas, Hafthor, and Eddie Hall. After that he had to face Tom Stoltman. And out of nowhere comes Mitchell Hooper and wins 4 events in the final. I'm sure Stoltman or Hooper will win 4, but they will also prevent eachother from getting a 5th title
Brian Shaw's record number of event wins, record straight finals, record number of total finals, record number of straight WSM appearances, and record number of group wins will never be beaten. On top of all that, he has been the biggest advocate for the sport. He seems like he will end up being an incredible mentor for all the young guys coming up in the sport like he did this year before WSM.
Good on you two for showing Brian some love. The man is a force of nature. His wins are legendary, but also the fact that he's been in the finals so consistently for so long is just impressive. Then to put on top of that just how much of a sweetheart he is in person, and he really is the definition of a gentle giant. I'm sure like everyone, he makes mistakes and has his off days, but I just think the world of him.
Brian will be missed, the complete lack of ego has made him well loved. He has left an amazing legacy and with the like of Tom and Mitch it's in good hands
Thank you guys for doing this! Brian is my favorite, but loved watching Loz and his furious competitive way of fighting for the win! Keep up the great work!
Brian Shaw, without a doubt, THE greatest strongman to ever compete to date. I'll miss seeing him at the comps. He did and gave so much to the sport of strongman and I'm sure he will continue to. A huge thank you to Brian Shaw!!!

But it does tell you how ridiculously consistent and how incredibly strong Brian is. He'd have 6 titles under his belt if those two things would have happened. I'm actually pretty happy they didn't. After the results of 2023, I don't think he would have made the podium anyway, but maybe he would have at least been 4th or 5th which is still a lot better than such a great competitor and hero of the sport to go out on a 7th place finish. Alongside of Terry Hollands going out on a Stone Off in 2020, Oleksii Novikov missing out on 2019 on a Stone Off, and even watching Robert Oberst unnecessarily getting injured on a stone off after already not placing in the Top 2 of his heat.. I think I'm officially a Stone hater in WSM and I even lift natural stones for fun myself.
Sad to see Brian go, but even he knows it's time. Too many young studs out there like Hooper. Such an amazing career and a much more amazing person. Best of luck in your retirement, but I know it's not the last we will see of you. Thank you Loz and Liz for covering this and for all that you do. Cheers!
We can argue if Brian, Z, or Pudzianowski is goat until the sun goes supernova. But Brian will always be one of the truly great in the sport and we will miss seeing him compete.
Brian is a great ambassador for the sport. His videos of messing around with Eddie Hall are comedy gold. Those got me really interested in WSM. Love the sport for the insane feats of strenght but also the camaraderie despite the fierce competition.

Undisputed goat, if u disagree look at the athletes he competed against during his career in order to win his titles and never miss a finals. Eddie hall, Hafthor, big z, pudinowski, martins and many more (most of them in their prime as well) .
If he didn't have to do a stone off, he could have podium. The stone off tired him out and he's older so recovery going to take longer. Brian is the modern eras GOAT glad to see him leave healthy and happy
Sad to see Brian go, but even he knows it's time. Too many young studs out there like Hooper. Such an amazing career and a much more amazing person. Best of luck in your retirement, but I know it's not the last we will see of you. Thank you Loz and Liz for covering this and for all that you do. Cheers!
Great job guys! This was put together so good!
We can argue if Brian, Z, or Pudzianowski is goat until the sun goes supernova. But Brian will always be one of the truly great in the sport and we will miss seeing him compete.
Thank you Brian and thank you Loz and Liz
Brian Shaw is up there with Big Z for GoAT conversation surely
Thank you. It will be different not seeing him next year in a world strongest man event. Much less a final.
A great ambassador for the sport
What a legend. Much respect.
Very well said. Well done Brian!
Brian Shaw is arguably the G.O.A.T.
Brian is a great ambassador for the sport. His videos of messing around with Eddie Hall are comedy gold. Those got me really interested in WSM.
Love the sport for the insane feats of strenght but also the camaraderie despite the fierce competition.
What a great man! Absolute legend
Thanks you two. Been a big fan of your channel for a few years now. This is where I come to get the facts, true is true.😅 Great piece on Brian. Love the man and remember as a kid (completion which).
Amazing that Big Z was basically the same weight as Brian when Brian was in his second WSM. Big Z was massive back then!
Y'all did such a wonderful and amazing breakdown of Brian and his career! Excellent job 👍. Absolutely love your channel and content 💪
6:37 that photo of brian and big z is awesome. That would make a good poster
Undisputed goat, if u disagree look at the athletes he competed against during his career in order to win his titles and never miss a finals. Eddie hall, Hafthor, big z, pudinowski, martins and many more (most of them in their prime as well)
.
If he didn't have to do a stone off, he could have podium. The stone off tired him out and he's older so recovery going to take longer. But he did amazing he should be ashamed of he's performance still one of the top 10 strongest men, the absolute beast of a career. What a legend. 🔥🔥🔥 well done big B
Shouldn't
Great video guys. Love watching Every time!!
I don't know that i can give him the GOAT in WSM. Top 3 with ease, but not 1.
Great video as always
He really is the GOAT
This was awesome, cheers dudes
One of my favorite history vids you guys have done
I hope he will end up doing the Masters I honestly think if he did he could beat everyone even if he stays in the 40 when he is 50
It's crazy to think if WSM was a more competently run sport, Brian may have up to 6 championships. And Brian himself never even brings this up!
Awesome coverage! What a career!👋👋👋
Unc & Auntie Excellent video. Thx again
Thanks, guys! Very well put together!
Love your show, extremely informative !
Big Z is the undisputed GOAT
