- went to Irvine lake 12/23 a week after the derby. I fished the derby the week before and hearing from the rangers that they put a few double digits in and seeing pics of some dds being put in made me go back the next week. The derby day didn't go as expected we went in thinking it was going to be wide open but I ended up only getting 1 lightning and losing 5 others lol. I was getting bit the most on drop shot on the derby day so that was my game plan going into this day. only caught 1 on the drop shot and 2 on the spoons. It wasn't by any means a slow day but I just think more schools finally moved from the west shore. people fishing bait were catching them all throughout the day but it was a long soak out there for them. in my opinion its still worth to fish it just because they got 10+ lbers in there. the lake is open fri sat sun so if you do plan on going those are the days!
