Hi Katie, a big thank you for your little lessions! I love them! I just try to get back on the skates after 35 years break. They are really a huge help to find my way again back to skating. Thank you!
Hi Skatie! I really appreciate this video! I honestly prefer it a bit more than some of your other beginner videos (even though all are helpful!), as it quickly gets into instructions for how to move sooner in the video, instead of focusing the first half on equipment. As a skater that’s renting skates and practicing entirely at a roller rink, learning about equipment and wheel softness is a bit of a lower priority than “how to move”, haha! Again, all your beginner videos are great, and this one is going right at the top of my skating playlist!
Just got my skates, and I have been watching many of your videos to build up knowledge and confidence. Chuckle-worthy and usefully informative, as always. 🙃
Hi Katie. Thank you so much for this video. After 55 years of not getting on a pair of skates I've just taken this up as a hobby. As a child I had some of those metal adjustable skates you put on over your shoes. I was pretty rubbish at skating. My new skates arrived at the beginning of December and after 3 times at the sports hall I don't seem to be making any progress. Having found your videos I've realised that everything on my skates is too tight (pity they came with no instructions). I'm tentatively adjusting the trucks and the wheels. Hopefully I may enjoy Tuesday nights on skates more now!
I hope you have lots of fun. It’s amazing how much difference just a few small adjustments can make. Don’t forget to take your tools with you to help finalize those adjustments. Have fun x 🛼⭐️💕
I just bought my first pair of roller skates, so this video was really helpful ❤ if anyone who reads this wants to chit chat about starting with skates, progress and so on, I‘d be glad to have a training partner 🥰
Hi, how's the skating going? I'm a newbie and having trouble even standing on a solid surface.. I'm so wobbly that I keep falling. Any pointers you can share?
I just did a search on quads competitions. Wow. They were real eye openers. Everything they do on ice these skaters do on quads. Triples, no problem. I have to get your videos organized in a learning timeline.
That’s great to hear. These are just some Amazon multipack pads. I wear them mainly to encourage skaters to wear safety gear and to save my skin if I fall. For beginners I’d recommend something a bit better pro tech, 187, ennui, triple 8.
Hello Katie, please could you advice what wheels to get for my new skates? I am getting an edea rondo with variant plate but not sure of the wheels. I want to be a recreational skater and would be skating indoors.
Nice skates! I’d suggest some roll-line wheels around a 90a they work for most indoor surfaces. Although it’s always a good idea to ask regulars at the rink what they use as every floor differs.
You’ll need to measure your foot to get the mm measure. This is the most accurate way to fit a skate. Don’t pay attention to the “shoe size”. Skates are always crazy sizing and rarely correlate to street shoe size.
Hi Katie! Do you use bearing spacers? I've watched countless setup and maintenance videos, and neither quad skates nor skateboarders seem to ever use spacers. As someone coming from rollerblading, the double-sided frames make using spacers essential for proper rolling. I've watched a handful of videos and read a few forum posts that have recounted a wheel completely falling off mid-skate. But I've read a few posts where other skaters say spacers aren't necessary. I lucked out in a way buying cheap, unbranded wheels that came with bearings, spacers, and even a tool. This made it very easy to tighten my wheels eliminating clacking entirely. Am I missing something? What's the benefit of not using spacers?
Quad wheels don’t need spacer. They aren’t essential like on inlines. Lots of beginner equipment come with spacers. This is mainly due to the skates being tightened by machine. Quad wheels function completely fine without them.
This should be a 30 sec video. Shut up and just tell us what to do already. All waffle and no instuctions. Thanks for not showing us how to skate because your to because your to waffling on about everything except actually doing it

Yes. It’s amazing. We also dance on quads similar to ballroom dancing.
@@Skatie Yes that is lovely, seamless, and so rhythmic. I'd be happy if I could get half way there.
Thank you @Skatie 🙏🏾 bfor this video.
I'm still in the falling phase.
Im able to stand up on grass, but the wobbles on solid ground hurt.lol
🤕 😢. The padded shorts are great cushioning. I like the triple 8 ones
This is really helpful, me and my family are going to roller skate next year
Have lots of fun x
Love your videos! Please, will you tell us what brand your knee & elbow protectors are?
Hi. I just wear an inexpensive set from Amazon. I choose these because the wrist guards have metal on both sides

Hey Skatie! I have learned so much from your content! Could you please tell me which brand of knee pad you're using in this video?

I can use a video 📹 like this Thanks🎉

I wear a size 11 shoe how do I use that 2 get fitted 4 skates?

@@Skatie aw got it
Another question would it help to try standing 1st time on a piece of carpet? What keeps the first foot without using the toe stop from sliding away?
Carpet is a great place to start, it’s a matter of keeping tension in your body to stop the front foot from rolling away.
@@Skatie o.k. got it. Duh, I do believe you did mention that.

Hi Katie, i am 60 🫢 have you experience with older beginner?
You’re never too old to roller skate!!! Just ensure to wear some safety gear and make sure you’re falling safely, I have a falling video too.
