I do clearly remember the first time I heard this song in the US when pop radio first started playing this. It was late afternoon on a hot summer day driving back from vacation in Florida. I was in the last 30 minutes from getting home of the 18 hour drive back, so it was on my home town radio station.
they were HUGE in the 80's.. a number of hits from the 3 who started out as models...this is one of their hits! the video is a HOMAGE to old movies and costumes and musicals....
The 80’s was the best time for music. And Bananarama was a true product of the 80’s. Anything by them was good. And we will party like crazy for your birthday!!!
Bananarama are an iconic girl band/group from the 80s and are still producing music today in 2020. I’ve been a fan since I was 15 & now I’m 49. They have a HUGE catalogue with many worldwide hits. The wow on their knickers is in reference to the name of the album that this song and many other hits are from. I have way too many favourites from these wonderful woman, so all I’m going to say is watch them all, you won’t be disappointed 😉👍🏾😘❤️🙌🏾❤️🙌🏾❤️🙌🏾
The golden years of their collaboration with Stock, Aitken and Waterman which started with The Venus in 1986. Matt's guitar is terrific in the middle eight
The "fruit lady" being evoked at 3:35 to 3:45 of the video is Carmen Miranda, a star of Hollywood musicals of the 1940's , best known for the fruit bowl headdress she would wear.
As someone else said "Robert De Nero's Waiting"" is a classic from these gals........He actually heard the song and rang them up and they all went on a "Date" with him.
They were pretty big in the early to mid 80's, they had a number of big hits as others have already said. You are fast becoming a fellow 80's New Waver lol
I really like their song “Robert De Niro’s Waiting.” Siobhan Fahey in the blond bob to me was the more fascinating of the three. At one point she was married to Dave Stewart of Eurythmics. Later she formed the group Shakespeare’s Sister with Marcella Detroit. Drama seemed to follow Siobhan wherever she went.
One of their singers helped to form a new group with an entirely different sound. That was " Shakespeare's Sister" and their song " Stay" became a huge U.K. hit. A hauntingly memorable love song. And I do mean hauntingly.
This was always a great song to put on for people to dance to. Many a night after rolling back home from being out and with no-one's wanting the party to end, this song was played. It is certainly the Banarama song that I remember and that I like best.
Written by Bananarama + producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman. The video of this song was made early. Specifically, this song was a late add to the movie Disorderlies starring the late Ralph Bellamy + rap group The Fat Boys. No clips from Disorderlies in this music video. Sorry! Anyway, Bananarama had fun in making this video!
I think that was their charm and made people connect easily with them ever since their earliest days. For instance, they have recounted the anecdote when they first appeared on Top of the Pops performing It Ain't What You Do. They had never been in that show. They didn't know what camera to look into, they didn't really dance but those were the things that precisely made people fall in love with them back in the day.
"I want you back", "Shy boy", "More than physical", "I Can't Help It " people mention these ones yet? They did have WOW on their bloomers. It was the name of the album.
Can you react to either of their new videos from the last few years ? Look on the floor or Move in my direction. Only two of the girls made that album but their in their late 50's and gorgeous and the songs are bangers
Ahh the 80s were a fantastic time for music, another top quality reaction. I’d love to see you react to Gene Pitney & Marc Almond singing Something Gotten Hold Of My Heart from 1989. Much love to you all.
They are one of The Biggest Girlbands to come out of The UK. To many Rock Historians they kicked the door open for every Girlband that came after them from The Spicegirls most notably but others you may not have heard of from Girls Aloud, Misteeq, Eternal, Sugababes, Atomic Kitten, The All Saints. One of the Members Keren Woodward was in a committed Relationship with Andrew Ridgeley formerly of Wham. The Man who worked with the Pete Waterman also worked with Girls Aloud and Hilary Shaw also Managed Banarama and Girls Aloud as well.
This is Bananarama's original and best known lineup: Keren Woodward (the brunette), Sara Dallin (the long-haired blonde) and Siobhan Fahey (the short-haired blonde). Keren and Sara have known each other since they were 4 years old and became best friends when they were 13. Sara met Siobhan when they studied at the university to become fashion journalists and became friends. At this time Keren worked as a secretary at the BBC's Pensions department, a job she got because of her outstanding grades in Math. When the three got together it was the time of the punk movement and it was common practice that people that didn't have any background in music just got together and formed their own bands. That's what Bananarama did at the suggestion of Paul Cook, a member of The Sex Pistols. In typical Bananarama style they didn't take themselves seriously and they formed the band just for kicks not even thinking they were gonna make a career out of it. However, after they released their first single in 1981, Aie A Mwana, they got noticed by Terry Hall, a member of The Specials who was now a member of a band called Fun Boy Three. He liked their style and asked them to sing back up for a track of theirs called It Ain't What You Do. This was released in January 1982, got to #4 in the U.K. charts and as they say the rest is history. Siobhan, whose birthday is also in September like yours, at the time they were recording the album where I Heard a Rumour comes from, she was feeling unhappy with the musical direction the band was taking. She felt it was way too poppy and glossy. She was pregnant and got married to Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics and she felt more and more detached from the band up to the point that for many promotional appearances the band did Keren and Sara were the ones who showed up. In January 1988, Siobhan officially left the band, moved to Los Angeles with her family and emerged with Shakespears Sister. The record company pressured the other Bananarama girls to find a replacement as the public perceived them as a trio. They got an old friend of theirs, Jacqui O'Sullivan, to join the band. However, she only lasted 3 years in the band. From 1992 onwards, Bananarama has remained as a duo. They will release in late October their autobiography (I already pre-ordered it as soon as I found out the news). Many people dismiss them as just an all-female pop band but knowing more of their history you realize that they are the original girl power and not the Spice Girls. You can tell even from the way the band was formed. Bananarama also still hold the Guinness Record as the most successful all-female British band of all time. In regards of I Heard a Rumour, ironically it was a bigger hit in the U.S. (#4 in the Hot 100) than in their native U.K. (#14). At some point in your reaction you mentioned something about upbeat music with dark and deep lyrics. Bananarama does have songs like that and the first one that comes to mind is Robert De Niro's Waiting. I won't tell you what the song's about in case you would like to react to it maybe during the week of your birthday with the 80's-themed reactions. Rough Justice is another one. Even Cruel Summer has dark lyrics backed by a seemingly happy tune. I'm sorry for this looooong post but maybe as you can tell I'm a huge Bananarama fan and Bananarama reactions are quite rare to find in UA-cam. I got quite excited as soon as I saw this in my notifications. Thank you very much for this reaction. Hope you react to more Bananarama.
They are the biggest Girlband to come out of The UK Pop Scene. Two of them Keren Woodward & Sara Dallin met as little girls. They got their big break singing backup on a Song with a Group called Fun Boy 3. To many UK Rock Historians, they kicked the door open for every Girlband that came after them most notably The Spice Girls. Their Manager Hilary Shaw would later manage Girls Aloud the most successful Group to come out of Reality TV in the UK. One of them used to date Andrew Ridgeley of Wham.
I just can't deal with this. How is it possible that people don't know the "basics" of music history! Alienation? There would be no Spice Girls, Girls Aloud or Pussy Cat Dolls without Bananarama.
Bananarama is really POP PERFECTION..+ Girl Power. They have so many hits as 'Venus', (Venus was NUMBER 1 in USA) 'Cruel Summer', 'Love in the first degree', 'Robert the Niro's waiting', and so on..
"Cry Me A River" is thematically similar, but musically totally different. My favorite recording is by Barbra Streisand, but there have been many great covers of it. The fruit lady is Carmen Miranda, she was in a lot of movie musicals in the 40s and 50s.
Thanks for reacting to Bananarama!! They were extremely popular around 1984 to 1986. You might also want to check out by them "Robert DeNiro's Waiting" and "Wild Life".
You need to investigate Shakespears Sister - the group that Siobhan Fahey founded after she left Bananarama - she is by far the most interesting of the group. Try Goodbye Cruel World, Stay, Heroine, You're History
I am so happy to hear you play this Song. Check out Venus, He Was Really Saying Something (originally done by The Velvelettes a Motown Group). In the UK These Ladies are Legends who kicked the door open for future UK Girlbands like The Spice Girls. Two of them Sarah Dallin & Keren Woodward knew each other since they were little girls in School. Siobhan Fahey (who had left the group) went on her own with a Group called Shakespeare's Sister. Their Manager Hilary Shaw would later manage Girls Aloud. I hope you will check out UK Boybands/Girlbands. They are really good.
Bananarama has some great songs, one of which is an awesome synth-pop cover of "Venus" by Shocking Blue (which you've already reacted to). I like Bananarama's version better myself. :-) The girls also have fun hits with "Cruel Summer" (how timely with everything that's going on today! :-) ) and "Robert De Niro's Waiting."
You MUST watch A Trick Of The Night, Bananarama's best single! Hotline To Heaven, Rough Justice, Really Saying SOmething, Do Not Disturb, Cruel Summer, Robert De Niro's Waiting, Cheers The, It Ain't What You Do It's The Way That You Do It and The WIld Life,
You should do Cruel Summer and Venus! Also Siobhan Fahey left bananarama to form Shakespeares sister! Check out their music as well! Popular songs are Stay, Hello Hello Turn your radio on, and i dont care
The "WOW" stitched on their knickers referred to the name of the album from which this song came. This was Pete Waterman's favourite song, and I would not be very surprised if it remains so. One remarkable things about the Dallin-Fahey-Woodward team is that they sang in unison rather than in harmony, and yet they sounded quite wonderful together. It had to do with the characteristics of their individual voices which, by a fluke, blended together well. After Fahey's departure (to marry Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics) her place was replaced by Jacquie O'Sullivan, whose voice did not make that perfect blend. Bananarama remains an on-going concern as a two-piece group.
The Fun Boy Three + Bananarama Really Saying Something It Ain't What You Do, It's The Way That You Do It Bananarama: Cruel Summer Venus Robert De Niro's Waiting Love In The First Degree Na Na Hey Hey
Video's made the groups so popular, they all tried to out do one another. There was a lot of money to be made from them. The style was like from a thrift shop....Virgo's are the best people.
I do clearly remember the first time I heard this song in the US when pop radio first started playing this. It was late afternoon on a hot summer day driving back from vacation in Florida. I was in the last 30 minutes from getting home of the 18 hour drive back, so it was on my home town radio station.
Cruel Summer is a must....and what summer 2020 is.....
Reminds me of "The Karate Kid" every time.
Randall King do you watch Cobra Kai? So good....if you liked Karate Kid....
laura kali yes! It’s terrific. I agree. So good!!
Bananarama were one of the most successful girl groups in Britain of all time.
they were HUGE in the 80's.. a number of hits from the 3 who started out as models...this is one of their hits! the video is a HOMAGE to old movies and costumes and musicals....
Great group! Cruel Summer is awesome and a must.
The 80’s was the best time for music. And Bananarama was a true product of the 80’s. Anything by them was good.

This was definitely played at dance parties in 1987-88!
The golden years of their collaboration with Stock, Aitken and Waterman which started with The Venus in 1986. Matt's guitar is terrific in the middle eight
Trick Of The Night is a forgotten single of theirs, but one of their best.
Bananarama's BEST single EVER is A Trick Of The Night x+x
Love the In At The Deep End version
Anyway, one of them was in Shakespeare's sister, they had a big hit with Stay..
Yeah. Siobhan, the short-haired blonde.
Yes, you're right, the writing on their underwear spells out WOW, which was the name of the album that this song came from
And Dave Stewart was the one who suggested WOW! as the name of their album.
And Richard is hot🔥
Thank you Gregory :)
The WOW written on their underwear was the name of their upcoming album with stock Aitken and Waterman
Gotta just love Bananarama." Venus", "Na Na Hey Hey kiss him goodbye", , "Love In The First Degree", are all great.
The "fruit lady" being evoked at 3:35 to 3:45 of the video is Carmen Miranda, a star of Hollywood musicals of the 1940's , best known for the fruit bowl headdress she would wear.
I recall a movie she was in with Grouch Marx.
As someone else said "Robert De Nero's Waiting"" is a classic from these gals........He actually heard the song and rang them up and they all went on a "Date" with him.
And due to the fact that they got nervous to meet him before heading out to the date, in typical Bananarama style they got somewhat drunk beforehand.
They were pretty big in the early to mid 80's, they had a number of big hits as others have already said. You are fast becoming a fellow 80's New Waver lol
They did a version of Shocking Blue's song Venus which I believe you did a reaction to.
I really like their song “Robert De Niro’s Waiting.” Siobhan Fahey in the blond bob to me was the more fascinating of the three. At one point she was married to Dave Stewart of Eurythmics. She is actually quite pregnant in this video with Dave Stewart’s child, I believe they had three
@@stevenwatkins6872 They had two kids together: Samuel, born in 1987 and Django born in 1991. Both are musicians.
Edwin Salas Hernandez thank you for the correction
i interviewed Siobhan once - she was bonkers - but loveably so
I HEard A RUmour was the first single from their 4th album WOW, so the WOAH was turned into the promotion of their latest album in 1987 'WOW' .
Thank you so much for the Videos 😊👍you are really sympathic ❤i love Bananarama since my Youth ❤I heard a Rumour is only one of my Faves 👍
One of their singers helped to form a new group with an entirely different sound. That was " Shakespeare's Sister" and their song " Stay" became a huge U.K. hit. A hauntingly memorable love song. And I do mean hauntingly.
Yes! Looking forward to pretty much anything 80s.
Love this band. Venus and Cruel Summer are two more good songs...
another good 80s female fronted band is the Bangles.
You should definitely react to their #1 cover of “Venus” from 1986. You’ll love the video. 😎
This was always a great song to put on for people to dance to. Many a night after rolling back home from being out and with no-one's wanting the party to end, this song was played. It is certainly the Banarama song that I remember and that I like best.

Pop perfection. All rawk snobs can go and...do something else.
Next: Cruel Summer.
I'm a rawk snob and I love me some Nanarama. Cruel Summer, Robert DeNiro's Waiting, Kiss Him Goodbye
@@jethro1963, you're the benign kind of rawk snob. Take care and stay safe.
@@jethro1963 Me too, don't forget "Venus"
The first song by them you should listen to is the best song... Cruel Summer
This is their best, most catchiest song. Venus and Cruel Summer are great but don't compare. They are just more famous.
Dancers they were not!! LOL. But they were awfully cute and had exceptional harmony.

You would also enjoy “Love In The First Degree” and “Venus”. Fun stuff!
This is one of my three favorite Bananarama tunes along with "Clean Cut Boy" and "Wild Life." You should react to "We Close Our Eyes" by Go West.
Bananarama was one of my favorite 80's bands

One remarkable things about the Dallin-Fahey-Woodward team is that they sang in unison rather than in harmony, and yet they sounded quite wonderful together. 8th biggest girl group in the world and I think the 80s too
People used to copy Bananarama's dance moves on dancefloors across the UK, believe it or not? lol. They were seen as cheesy but fun. :)
