Colour mixing is probably one of my favourite things to do. However, it does take some practice and knowledge of colour theory. In this series I will be highlighting different colours and how to mix different shades of them. For this I will be using a limited palette of 8 student grade watercolour from Winsor & Newton:

Emma, I want to thank you for the color mixing series. It has been very helpful and you are always so inspiring. Thank you again.
This's truly helpful! finally I know how to darken color without using adding many layers or adding black color. Mixing the opposite color gives a great affect!
Hi Emma,
Brilliant set of tutorials. Explained a lot that I have missed understanding.
Thank you!!!!
I love mixing with white and black - not instead of diluting with water or mixing with a complementary, but in addition to that. Mixing with black isn't great for a natural looking shadow, but it can give a nice color all on its own - and can be useful if you don't actually want a natural, realistic look!
Anyway. I always rant a bit when I talk about black and white watercolor paint, I think they have a worse reputation than they deserve 😂
This whole series has been a lot of fun - I like color theory in general, and learning to mix colors is so incredibly useful! And super fun to play with 😁
This has been a great series ... I have learned SO much..
These color mixing videos have been sooooooo good for me! Thank you ♥️

Emma, the colour mixing series was awesome! I did each lesson in my watercolor scrapbook and now I use it all the time to refer to.
Thank you so very much! I am learning so much and am having fun 🙏🌻
I've just finished watching this series and wow, it was amazing. Thank you for playing with colours and sharing the journey with us. I really, really enjoyed it. I completely understand the theory, now just need to play myself and name the results as a reference book. Thank you.
Emma, your mixing videos have helped me soooo much. Great teaching - Thank you.
Thank you so much I have learned an enormous amount about color with your tutorials! I look at colors in a whole new way! You just helped me step it up a notch! I look forward to all your lessons!

Thanks for making such a help full video ❤️
Thank u so much for this serie... super important.... u are a great teacher....
Thank you so much for your color mixing series I really enjoyed it. I also agree with the white paint. I feel it makes it look fake rather than a light wash therefore I rarely ever use white paint.
You are an excellent instructor!
Thank you for your videos they are so helpful
Good as always. You are a super Great teacher
Hello Emma,
You are awesome, well done on this video as always 😉
And you are a very good teacher.
Brilliant 👏 thank you 💞
I enjoyed the series) The easiest (fun) for me was green, the most challenging (yet interesting) - gray :) Thank you so much!
Thank you for this amazing series. I just would lime your thoughts on using a neutral tint to darken some colors. I have been seeing that color pop up in a few videos lately. Thanks
thank you
Really liked this series! TVMFS!
i like white for making pastel tints
Ur videos are really helpful ✨✨🌺🌺
This is a great help! I hate mixing colors.
Thanks
شكرا
I really love to watch your videos❤️your videos are so helpful.. can you do some videos on different types of food illustration please🥺❤️
Great vid, I enjoyed it! One thing I wonder tho: I’ve read that super-diluting with water will cause the watercolor binders to fail. It’s not talked about much, and I’ve often seen vids where painters use an incredibly watery wash. Is using white paint better to get super pale colors in terms of paint staying on the paper?
(I took a class once with an admittedly-beginner teacher, and as she was telling us how cheap watercolors were fine, she rubbed her hand over an old work - clouds of dusty color came off. Taught her and us that quality binders matter.)
Good video Emma. In my opinion mixing a black is the truest way to use it. All my painting professors taught us to never use a black from the tube and to mix our own. Thanks for the great tutorial. If you need a pastel color wouldn’t you use white?
Why do you like mars black. Have always bought ivory black...i need to look up difference...but whats your take. I have been enjoying this series . Sometimes something new but most just reminders....and boy, do i need reminding..thank you
Hey Emma. You taught me in kindergarten. im in gr 5 now. hope ur doing well.
That was a great tutorial Emma. But I was wondering what the difference is between making a darker colour and making a muted colour. Coz in both cases u are mixing contrasting colours
Using more pigment will also make it darker and using more water will make it lighter. You can make a light muted colour. Does that make sense?
@@EmmaLefebvre thanks for replying. I guess it does make sense but I gta try it out first 😊
I love watching ur vids and listening to your voice. Thank you for being real. I feel like ur are a friend when friends are hard to come by
hugs and god bless

great job
Black ruined my painting, it looked great but then absorbed all the light purple I had blended it with.
