As an absolute beginner, you have not only inspired me, but your guidance and teaching style is totally on point.
Thank you for your honest approach, no gizmos to sell it, and most of all the gentle humour to finish it off.
🙏
Thanks very much George.
Thank you so much for the lesson on mixing your own black. Many years ago I purchased my first watercolor book - Making Color Sing by Jeanne Dobie. I am so glad I learned from the beginning to mix my own blacks from complimentary colors. Your demonstration was a perfect reminder of mixing beautiful grays. I am 70 years old and am still learning. You are my favorite on-line watercolor teacher.
I, as usual, found myself taking notes.
Lol- Thanks Don. Enjoy your weekend. 😆
Thank you Louise I love to watch you you are a great teacher
Thank you for reminding me of the importance of practice, practice, practice - Too often I expect perfect results straight away. I too took notes - thank you so much.
Loved this one! I just finished teaching my pal all about how to mix black with many variations and these exact colours were one of the choices! When I started to paint I was taught to NEVER use paint straight out of a tube nor to EVER use black in a tube so have been mixing my own for years. Watching what lovely things you do with tube black made me question what was right or wrong or better. and now I think it is alll ok. Mix, don’t mix, add this or that it is alllllll ok. Enjoy the painting. End of story. But I have to say that I still own zero tubes of black and still mix my own as that translucent something makes mixed “ black” not quite so “dark hole”- like. Love how and what you teach. You are so special. And funnnnnYYYYY!!!!
Hey Louise je tekeningen zijn zo mooi, plus ik leer veel bij hoe ik de kleuren kan mixen hartelijk dank!
Wonderfully instructive video on the importance of not relying on premixed black watercolors. This is really so very important. Might I also say just how much I appreciate your humble approach to painting, admitting it is still work and requires practice after a decade of painting and for so openly sharing the delightful outtakes at the end. You exemplify the best that a tutor can bring her students! xx
That's very kind of you. Thank you for your lovely message Linda. 💕
Thank you, Louise. I love your humanity. :-D I aspire to be a little like you when I grow up (I just turned 69. Haha) Truly, though, your lovely light touch and clear instruction have been an inspiration to me in my watercolor journey. Thank you.
Love your videos! I can appreciate its a lot of work to paint and film at the same time, and edit. Love the bloopers!
Louise-you’re awesome! I love your teaching, your artwork, and your willingness to instruct others ❤.
Hello! It's wonderfull that you showed us your previous studies. I t takes down the wrong idea that art work is done on the first attempt, even for a ten year experienced watercolourist, that beginers have. Thank you! Huge hug! 😄
Thanks Sandra. It's always a struggle and there are many paintings that don't turn out.
You are so adorable and natural. How wonderful it would be to make your delightful acquaintance. Sending appreciation from Oregon USA
Thank you, Louise, for this helpful tutorial. I enjoyed watching how you not only make a lively black with complimentary colors but how you subtly incorporated the two complimentary colors into your cute little chick painting along with the black you created. I am going to try this myself. Your comedy at the end of your tutorials is hilarious! You are the only person who makes me laugh out loud! Your delivery reminds me of Lucille Ball.
What a sweet little chick Louise and very interesting to find you can make your own black Thank you for sharing your time with us
Thanks Amanda. 💜

Hello Louise, I consider myself fortunate that I bought Jean Dobies’ book when it first came out, . And from there on I learned to mix beautiful darks . There are other combinations also , and I like that the darks can be cooler or warmer.
Superbe, avec seulement 2 couleurs. Très intéressante cette vidéo qui donne envie de se pencher sur ce problème d ambiance de nos aquarelles . Merci

Hope you are safe with all the rain!
Thank you!
I need more patience! Well I need to cultivate more patience by practicing with the colors I am going to use in a project. I tend to want to just complete a project. But I sometimes do more than one of the same painting. And learn from my mistakes the first time. Thank you Louise!
Lovely chicken
